Background

Elder Centipede (also known as Centichoro in viz translation) was a Dragon-level Mysterious Being and an executive member of the Monster Association. He was killed by Saitama.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Elder Centipede’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Prior History
Two years prior to the current events, Elder Centipede was almost killed by Blast. Ever since, the monster was seeking chances of revenge on the hero and agreed to cooperate with the Monster Association to achieve his own goal. On the other hand, however, Elder Centipede had been anxious because of the obscure and mysterious movements of Blast and tried to lure him out.

The last time he appeared he caused heavy damage to a city and then disappeared. According to Hero Association staff members, Elder Centipede was bigger than when he was last spotted two years ago.

Monster Raid Arc
After Metal Bat defeats Senior Centipede and Rafflesidon, Elder Centipede emerges from the ground. He attempts to kidnap the Hero Association sponsor Narinki but is intercepted by Metal Bat, who lands a strike near his face. However, Metal Bat's swing does not harm Elder Centipede, and he flings Metal Bat away.

While Elder Centipede continued to chase after Mohican and Pineapple to kidnap the Hero Association sponsor, Metal Bat managed to climb onto Elder Centipede's head. Metal Bat then unleashes an attack on Elder Centipede's head. To get Metal Bat off of him, Elder Centipede shakes Metal Bat off by maneuvering around the city.

Elder Centipede continues to rampage through the city as he tries to get his hands on the Hero Association sponsors. When he finally manages to corner Mohican and Pineapple, Metal Knight arrives and fires missiles at Elder Centipede. Despite the powerful set of missiles, Elder Centipede remains undamaged by Metal Knight's attacks and comments that the robot is just an annoying pest.

Elder Centipede later picks up his allies and escapes, with Metal Knight in tow.

Monster Association Arc
Elder Centipede is later seen accompanying Phoenix Man to rescue Garou, protecting the former from Genos's Spiral Incineration Cannon. He proceeds to engage Bang, Bomb, and Genos while Phoenix Man escapes with the Hero Hunter. Despite their combined strength and even accomplishing significant damage to Elder Centipede, Bang, Bomb, and Genos are incapable of defeating Elder Centipede due to his molting and regeneration abilities, and are forced to retreat. As they pull back near the end of the forest, Bang intends to sacrifice himself and prepares to go all-out against Elder Centipede, to buy Bomb enough time to escape with the unconscious heroes and Genos.

Fortunately, King arrives and catches Elder Centipede's attention by tricking him into believing that King brought Blast with him, as well as taunting and making the centipede charge toward the S-Class hero. Elder Centipede meets his demise when an unnoticed Saitama, who was behind King, throws a Serious Punch that disintegrates his entire body from head to tail until there is nothing left of the monster besides his lifeless claws. Credit for his defeat went to King since only King, Genos, Bang and Bomb knew that Saitama is the one who eliminated Elder Centipede.

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Natural Weaponry (Has sharp fangs, spikes, and claws around its body[23]), Burrowing (Burrowed from the ground when it first appeared[24]), Large Size (Metropolitan Sized; Its body could rap this much around a city[25]. Elder Centipede's body can reach across an entire forest[26]. Grew much larger after molting[27]), Regeneration (Low-Mid; Even Genos attacking and burning its insides was not enough to defeat it[28]), Size Manipulation, Adaptation & Reactive Power Level (Bang and Bomb using their ultimate attack caused its body to break apart causing it to molt into a far larger and more powerful state[29]), Acid Manipulation (It's digestive fluids inside of its body can melt opponents in seconds[30])

All beings in One-Punch Man have a Limiter which through trying to break it[31], starts granting them the following abilities:

Indomitable Will (One that breaks their limiter need to have extreme will to continue[32]), Pain Tolerance (As they constantly need to put constant pressure on both their body and mind[33]), Accelerated Development (Passive, Physical Stats & Abilities; Limiter Removal, allows for endless growth as there is no intrinsic limit placed on people[34]), Adaptation (Garou has shown to increase himself to blitzing and overpowering Darkshine, who previously managed to break his entire ribcage, by breaking his limiter[35]), Supernatural Resilience (Characters like Garou were able to survive being ripped apart and a hole in his chest[36]), Resurrection (To experience explosive growth, one must be on the brink of death and die than resurrect[37]).

Resistance to BFR (Forced Teleportation; Child Emperor due to his strong will, can break out of Pheonix Space[38]), Mind Manipulation & Absorption (Psykos resisted Orochi absorbing them into them and taking over their mind through sheer will[39]), Telekinesis (Garou with his sheer will couldn't have his movements negated by Gyro Gyro[40]), Sleep Manipulation (Through sheer will and getting pumped up Metal Bat can resist the tranquilizing odor that made him nearly lose consciousness[41]), Empathic Manipulation (Fubuki is able to resist Monster Princess' whip due to having a strong will where her whip can turn one into a slave[42]), Power Nullification (Limits are meant to be intrinsic limits placed on people[43])

Equipment

Nothing notable.

Notable Techniques

  • Acidic Digestive Fluids: Elder Centipede's insides are coated with extremely corrosive digestive fluids that would even melt the cybernetic body of Genos if he stayed in contact with them for too long.
  • Molting: Every time he shed his outer shell, Elder Centipede grew bigger and stronger than he was before alongside gaining another face.
  • Giant Centipede Tidal Wave: Elder Centipede moved in a swirling motion, causing mass amounts of damage in his wake. This technique was first seen used to shake Metal Bat off of Elder Centipede.

Other

Standard Tactics: Elder Centipede will try and ram into its target with its massive size.

Weaknesses: Metal Bat noted that it avoids trying to get hit in the face, with this being a weak point[44].

Trivia

  • Elder Centipede was the first official Dragon-level monster revealed.
  • Murata once joked on a stream about there being a centipede of a higher tier than Elder Centipede. This was eventually proven true with the existence of Sage Centipede.
  • Elder Centipede could be based on the ōmukade, a giant centipede from Japanese mythology. In myth, it was large enough to wrap itself around the mountains and its body was impenetrable to most attacks.
  • Elder Centipede is the first Dragon-level monster that Saitama has used his Serious Series to destroy, though he did it out of a need to minimize collateral damage, to ensure that Elder Centipede could not get away, and also because he was still frustrated for losing 81 times to King in a video game earlier.

Battle Records

0-2-2

None.

  • Blast - Fight[45]
    • Conditions: None.
    • Location: Unknown
    • Note: Blast greatly injured him in the past, to where the Elder Centipede wants revenge on Blast.
  • Saitama, Genos, Bang, Bomb, and King - Fight[46]
    • Conditions: Initially Genos, Bang, & Bomb fought off against Centichoro and then King & Saitama came later.
    • Location: Unknown Forest
    • Note: Genos, Bang, & Bomb could not defeat Centichoro and King goaded Centichoro to come to him so Saitama could hit him. If Saitama was not there, none of them would have beaten Centichoro.

  • Metal Bat - Fight[47]
    • Conditions: None.
    • Location: Unknown City
    • Note: The fight was cut short due to Garou interfering and wanting to fight him, due to Metal Bat's ability to grow stronger the more damage he takes, he would've eventually won.
