Background

Ness is the main protagonist of Mother 2: Gyiyg Strikes Back - Ness's Adventure Memoirs, a short manga series that was used to promote Mother 2 in Japan. Much like his game counterpart, Ness is tasked with the objective to destroy Giygas to save the planet from his corruption. Along the way, he meets Paula, Jeff, and Poo, teaming up with them to fulfill the prophecy and defeat Giygas.

Powers and Stats

Tier: 9-B | High 8-C, likely 2-C with the Earth

Name: Ness

Origin: Mother 2

Sex: Male

Age: 12 (Should be the same age as his game counterpart)

Classification: Human, Chosen One

Attack Potency: Wall level (Physically superior to Paula and Jeff) | Large Building level (Defeated Master Belch using a combined attack, who was seen destroying a city alongside several other boss characters in a glimpse of the dark future. Trained with Poo's master in order to become stronger and master his PSI, who noted that he hadn't even used one ten-thousandth of his true power up to that point), likely Complex Universe level with the Earth (Summoned the power of the Earth to destroy Giygas, which Paula states is likely to have caused his entire dimension to collapse)

Dimensionality: 3-D

Travel Speed: Average Human | Average Human

Combat Speed: Superhuman | Superhuman (Can keep up with Poo)

Reaction Speed: Superhuman (Able to dodge bolts of PK Fire from Mr. Carpainter) | Superhuman (Fought against Poo during his training. Can react to PSI blasts from the Starman)

Lifting Strength: Average Human | Superhuman (Able to lift a large stone using only his head)

Striking Strength: Wall Class (Primarily uses physical attacks to fight) | Large Building Class (Became much stronger than before)

Durability: Wall level (Physically superior to Jeff, who survived an impact that blew back the zombies in Threed) | Large Building level (Should be comparable to Poo, who could withstand a PSI blast from Ness)

Stamina: Average | High (Underwent intensive training with Poo's master)

Range: Extended Melee, Thousands of Kilometers with Telepathy and Summoning (Was able to summon psychic energy from the other chosen ones to destroy Frankystein Mark II) | Extended Melee, Hundreds of Meters with PSI (Should be comparable in range to Jeff's laser gun, as they are used in a similar manner and can be combined with each other), Thousands of Kilometers with Telepathy, Low Multiversal with summoning (Was able to summon the power of the Earth while in Giygas's dimension)

Powers and Abilities: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Accelerated Development (Was able to become significantly stronger and master the ability to use PSI in a short period of time under his training), Enhanced Senses (Should be comparable to the other chosen ones), Telepathy (Was able to use telepathy to summon power from the other chosen ones), Clairvoyance (Had a premonition that Paula was kidnapped by the Happy Happyists), Empathic Manipulation (Both Frank and Mr. Carpainter were freed from Giygas's control when Ness defeated them), Energy Manipulation and Energy Projection (Mastered the ability to use PSI during his training with Poo's master), Fourth Wall Awareness (Pulled out a copy of the manga itself and handed it to Jeff when he asked what had happened with Ness while they were separated), Summoning (Was able to summon the power of the Earth itself to destroy Giygas. Was able to summon energy from the other chosen ones to destroy Frankystein Mark II), Weapon Mastery (Skilled enough with a bat to catch Frank's knives with it and send them back at him with a single swing), passive Fate Manipulation, Probability Manipulation, Plot Manipulation, Causality Manipulation, Time Manipulation, Dream Manipulation, Subjective Reality, and Immortality (Type 8) via the Truth of the Universe (The Truth of the Universe is an entity established in the game that uses a system of fate to select chosen ones and protect them to ensure their success. While the Truth of the Universe does not appear directly in the manga, Ness is destined to fulfill the same prophecy that his game counterpart does), possible Magicant Creation (It is implied that all humans are able to create a magicant), Attack Reflection with the Franklin Badge and the Mr. Saturn Hat (Was able to reflect Mr. Carpainter's PK Fire with the Franklin Badge. The Mr. Saturn Hat defended Ness from the Starman's PSI blast by outstretching a hand and reflecting the beam)

Resistances: Mind Manipulation and Corruption (Unaffected by Giygas's influence throughout his journey. Dr. Andonuts stated that the chosen ones should be able to pass through Giygas's psycho barrier), Possession (Buzz and Bahuzz were unable to take possession of Ness's body when they first came to Earth, stating that his "spritual circuitry" was too strong)

Standard Equipment:

  • Basesball Bat: An old, worn out baseball bat that Ness uses as his main weapon.
  • Mr. Saturn Hat: A special hat that is able to outstretch a hand to block and reflect attacks.
  • Franklin Badge: A badge that reflects PSI attacks.
  • Receiver Phone: Allows Ness to receive calls from his dad.
  • Bicycle: A bicycle that Ness rides to travel through towns faster.
  • Flashlight: A flashlight that Ness brought with him to investigate the meteorite crater.
  • Harmonica: A harmonica that Ness played to stun Master Belch's minions.

Intelligence: Genius (Was able to master his PSI and become significantly stronger in a short period of time under his training.Consistently comes up with plans that end up defeating his enemies, such as when he beat the zombies in Threed by trapping them in superglue, and when he was able to figure out the weakness of Master Belch and his minions in order to beat them)

Standard Tactics: Ness primarily fights by using his bat for melee combat. If he's backed into a corner, he will try to summon energy from an outside source, whether it be the other chosen ones or the Earth itself.

Weaknesses: Ness is unwilling to harm innocent people who are under Giygas's control, as he did not want to attack any of the Happy Happyists.
