Background

Robert E. O Speedwagon is a primary ally to Jonathan Joestar in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood. Formerly a thug living in Ogre Street, he befriends Jonathan after their first battle and joins him on his quest to defeat Dio Brando and destroy the Stone Mask.

In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency Speedwagon returns as an old wealthy business man who aids the Joestar family as if they were his own family. His company The Speedwagon Foundation would continue to aid the Joestars for generations even after his passing.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Robert E. O Speedwagon's story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Pre-Phantom Blood (1863-1888)
Robert E. O Speedwagon was born on October 16th, 1863 and grew up in Ogre Street, one of the worst parts of London. Living his life in darkness Speedwagon became a thief in order to survive and would learn how to tell if a person is good or evil.

Sometime in his life he would travel around the world and see all kinds of rare animals. Speedwagon also would learn a technique on how to use his body heat in order to cure frostbite.

Phantom Blood (1888-1889)
In 1888, Speedwagon and his fellow Ogre Street gang members would try to ambush a British noblemen named Jonathan Joestar. In their battle Jonathan Joestar would show true courage by showing that he would lose limbs for his cause and would spare Speedwagon and his gang after defeating them. Speedwagon, humbled by this would order his gang to not attack Jonathan anymore as he realized that Jonathan was a good man. Speedwagon would then help Jonathan track down Wang Cahn the man who sold poison to his brother Dio Brando which he used to try to slowly kill their father.

After finding Wang Chan, Speedwagon would follow Jonathan back home worrying that something might happen to him. While Jonathan was confronting Dio, Speedwagon would reveal himself to the two and would tell Jonathan that Dio is truly evil and that Jonathan should not trust him. Speedwagon's suspicious would be proven right as while Dio was getting arrested he attempted to stab Jonathan but would instead stab his father, George who moved Infront of the blade to save his son. After Dio used the Stone Mask and was gunned down by the police, Speedwagon would voice his respect for the Joestars stating that they are noble people with good hearts. Soon after this a now vampirized Dio would attack the police and the others. Jonathan would help Speedwagon escape the mansion before battling and defeating Dio. Speedwagon would take the injured Jonathan to the hospital where he would meet Erina Pendleton, a nurse who was a childhood friend of Jonathan. Speedwagon would allow Erina to take care of Jonathan's injuries knowing that he was in good care.

Using his underground connections Speedwagon would find out that Dio was now hiding in Windknight's Lot and would accompany Jonathan and Will Anthonio Zeppeli in their journey to defeat Dio and destroy the Stone Mask. Speedwagon would witness the use of Hamon during Jonathan and Will's fight with Jack the Ripper and would ask Will to teach it to him. Will would state that Speedwagon would never be able to use Hamon but tried to teach him anyway by striking his diaphragm in order to force Speedwagon to start using the Ripple breathing technique. However Will would hit the wrong spot and would just injure Speedwagon.

Soon after a kid named Poco would try to steal the group's money but was stopped by Jonathan. The group would learn the kid was hypnotized to do that and that they fell into Dio's trap. Dio would reveal himself to the group and brings an army of zombies with him. The group is able to take down most of the zombies with Will and Jonathan attempting to attack Dio. During the brief encounter Dio would flash freeze Will's arm making him unable to fight Dio's new minions, Bruford and Tarkus. While Jonathan was fighting off Bruford Speedwagon was able to use his body heat technique to defrost Will's arm allowing him to heal his injuries.

Once Jonathan defeated Bruford, Tarkus began to attack the group but they where able to escape with Poco to a medieval training ground. It is at this training ground that Tarkus and Jonathan begin to battle with Will soon joining in the fight. After the fight Will succumbs to his injuries and dies in Jonathan's hands and to honor his friends sacrifice, Speedwagon begins to wear Will's hat.

Speedwagon and Jonathan would soon make it to Windknight's Lot where they would meet Dire, Straizo, and Tonpetty. They would explain that Will had written them a letter to them asking for help to fight against the Dio and Stone Mask. With their new allies the group make their way towards Dio's castle. Once inside they confront Dio who commands his minions to attack the group. Speedwagon and the Hamon users are able to take down the zombies while Jonathan faces of against Dio. Following Dio's defeat Speedwagon smashed the Stone Mask with a sledge hammer putting an end to its reign of terror.

One year later in 1889, Speedwagon would say his goodbyes to Jonathan and his now wife Erina Joestar as they broad a boat to America for their honeymoon. Little did Speedwagon know that this would be the last time he would see Jonathan as he would be killed by Dio, who survived his defeat in 1888, during his voyage to America.

Post-Phantom Blood (1889-1938)
Sometime after Jonathan's death Speedwagon would travel to America and would become a oil business man where he would found the Speedwagon Foundation. He also stayed in touch with the Joestars and was one good terms with them.

During the early 1920s, unbeknownst to Speedwagon one of Dio's zombies from decades ago had managed to evade him and Straizo and was now disguising himself as an RAF major. As it just so happens George Joestar II the son of Jonathan Joestar and member the Royal Air Force had began to suspect the major was hiding something. George would figure about that the major was a zombie but before he do anything about the major he was murdered by said zombie.

George's death was covered up as an night flight accident but Speedwagon doubted the story and began to investigate it with Straizo. They would find out the truth and would tell George's wife Elizbeth the truth as well. Elizbeth being trained in Hamon rushed of the the major's office and killed him as revenge for the death of her husband. Unfortunately for her she was spotted with the burning body of the zombie major being confused as Elizbeth destroying the evidence. Elizbeth would be marked a traitor to her country and would flee the country with the help of the Speedwagon Foundation covering her tracks. Speedwagon would talk to Erina about the situation being told not to tell Joseph Joestar, the son of George and Elizbeth the truth about his parents.

Sometime later Speedwagon became an uncle figure to Joseph and would help raise the young boy whenever he could. Even later in life Speedwagon's plane would be hijacked with him and Joseph inside it. The hijackers would try to hold Speedwagon ransom but where stopped by Joseph who used his Hamon, inherited from his grandfather, to force the plane to crash. Speedwagon, Joseph, and the plane pilot would survive the crash by jumping out the plane and using it's seats to cushion the fall.

In 1938, Speedwagon would learn of the existence of the Pillar Man, Santana along with multiple Stone Masks. He would contact Straizo who would bring his Hamon disciples with him to the cite where Santana was located.
