Like Sub-Zero, Scorpion's true name and origin are not known. He has shown from time to time distrust and hatred towards Sub-Zero. Between Ninjas, this is usually a sign of opposing clans.

Scorpion was once a member of the Shirai Ryu ninja clan before he was slain by the elder Sub-Zero. Resurrected by the sorcerer Quan Chi, he entered the Mortal Kombat tournament and killed Sub-Zero to avenge the murders of his family and clan. But Sub-Zero's younger brother assumed his name and donned the familiar blue assassin's garb. Though he remains Quan Chi's enforcer, Scorpion will not rest until this Sub-Zero has been slain as well.

~ Mortal Kombat 4 Bio
The ninja spectre Scorpion had assumed for many years that Sub-Zero had killed his family and clan, only to later discover that the true murderer was the sorcerer Quan Chi. After revealing his treachery, Quan Chi then attempted to send Scorpion to the 5th plane of the Netherrealm. Thinking quickly, Scorpion grappled the sorcerer at the last moment and they were both transported to that forbidden realm. This turn of events boded well for Scorpion and his strength increased the longed he remained there. Quan Chi's powers, however, proved to be useless against him. Scorpion hunted Quan Chi relentlessly throughout the Netherrealm, thrashing him every chance he could. Eventually, Quan Chi enlisted the help of two Oni to protect him from the onslaught. When Quan Chi finally discovered a way out of the Netherrealm through a strange portal, Scorpion rushed to follow him. He emerged in Outworld but in a different location, far from his prey. He can still sense Quan Chi's presence and will hunt him wherever he runs to. There is nowhere the sorcerer can hide.

Quan Chi killed my family and clan and then deceived me into believing Sub-Zero was their murderer. I have been corrupted by Quan Chi's wickedness. Now it is his turn to suffer.
~ Scorpion to Shujinko in Mortal Kombat: Deception
In my haste to confront my nemesis, Quan Chi, I was ambushed by two oni and cast into a powerful soulnado. I would surely have been torn apart by the souls trapped there had I not managed to escape in the Voids. It was there that I first set eyes on the fabled Elder Gods. I would be forever changed by this encounter. While in the Void, I witnessed, along with the Elder Gods, the death of Raiden and the re-emergence of the Dragon King. Suddenly aware of my presence, the Elder Gods transformed me into their servant and gave me a new purpose: to prevent the Dragon King from merging the realms.

Hanzo Hasashi was once a member of the Japanese Shirai Ryu ninja clan. Given the name Scorpion for his blindingly fast and deadly fighting skill, his life was blessed with glorious kombat in the name of his Grand Master. But when he, his family and his clan were brutally exterminated by Sub-Zero and the Lin Kuei, Scorpion's existence became eternal torment. Resurrected by the malevolent necromancer Quan Chi, he entered the Mortal Kombat tournament to slay Sub-Zero and avenge the murders of his kin.

The new Shirai Ryu are worthy. It's heart, not blood, that makes them warriors.
~ Hanzo's final words to his younger, revenant self in Mortal Kombat 11
Grandmaster Scorpion of the Shirai Ryu. Driven by rage, Hanzo Hasashi went through Hell and back to avenge his family and clan, never resting until he cut down their murderer, Quan Chi. Now he leads a reborn Shirai Ryu, avenging those who cannot avenge themselves.

Background

Hanzo Hasashi, better known as Scorpion, is a resurrected ninja in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series as well as the mascot of the games. He is one of the very few original characters debuting in the first Mortal Kombat arcade game. He holds the distinction, along with Raiden and Sub-Zero (in one form or another), of appearing in every generation of Mortal Kombat games as a playable character.

Throughout the series, Scorpion has been a misguided antagonist after his resurrection, following those on the side of evil out of revenge and anger over the death of his family and clan. After being restored to his Human form and learning the truth about their demise, he has been a recurring supporting character for the series.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Hanzo Hasashi’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Born to the Shirai Ryu Ninja clan, Hanzo Hasashi was among the best shinobi in the clan. He earned the name "Sasori" (the Japanese word for "Scorpion") because of his incredible Ninja skills, and his life was blessed with kombat for the glory of his clan's Grand Master.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero
However, when he received a mission from the vile necromancer Quan Chi to steal the sacred Map of Elements from the Order of Light's Shaolin Temple, Scorpion was brutally murdered in battle by the Lin Kuei warrior, Sub-Zero. Consequently his family, and his clan, were slaughtered by Quan Chi as payment to the Lin Kuei. Scorpion's soul was sent to the Netherrealm, where he laid waste. He fought Sub-Zero again in the Prison of Souls during his damnation, but was defeated again, allowing the Lin Kuei warrior to escape.

Mortal Kombat
Two years after being slain by the elder Sub-Zero, Scorpion returned to Earthrealm, and participated in Shang Tsung's Mortal Kombat Tournament. If he defeated Sub-Zero, he would avenge himself and from what Quan Chi told him, his clan, but if he was defeated again, his soul would be hurled into oblivion. However, it would not be until after Liu Kang's defeat of Goro that he would catch Sub-Zero unguarded and have his revenge, finally killing the Lin Kuei warrior. Immediately afterwards, he returned to the Netherrealm.

Mortal Kombat II
While in the Netherrealm, Scorpion would catch wind of a new tournament in Outworld, as well as Sub-Zero's participation. Shocked and angered that his murderer somehow returned to life, Scorpion followed his opponent to Shao Kahn's tournament. However, during one of Sub-Zero's battles, he witnessed the Lin Kuei sparing his opponent's life. He would soon learn that this Sub-Zero was not his murderer, but Sub-Zero's younger brother. To atone for slaying his kin, Scorpion vowed to protect Sub-Zero instead. But Sub-Zero would never know this, or the reason behind it.

Mortal Kombat 3
When Shao Kahn invaded Earthrealm and unsuccessfully tried to conquer the Netherrealm as well, Scorpion was inadvertently set free, and began walking the Earth once more. He pledged allegiance to no one, taking neither friends nor enemies. Shao Kahn, however, recognized Scorpion's superior warrior skills, and enlisted the ninja in his forces. Scorpion's allegiance with Shao Kahn quickly dissolved when he discovered that Sub-Zero was one of Earth's Chosen warriors and therefore one of Shao Kahn's targets. He turned on Shao Kahn, and sided with the Earthrealm warriors in their final showdown with the evil emperor. With Shao Kahn and his minions defeated, Earth reverted back to normal, causing Scorpion to return to the Netherrealm once more.

Mortal Kombat 4
Sometime after his return to the Netherrealm, Scorpion heard that his wife and child had been slain. He encountered the sorcerer Quan Chi, who told Scorpion that Sub-Zero was the murderer. Hearing this angered Scorpion anew, and he swore he would slay Sub-Zero, much like his brother before him. However, in Scorpion's ending, Quan Chi reveals that he had tricked Scorpion into believing that Sub-Zero had slain his wife and child in the hope that he would break his vow of protecting Sub-Zero as retribution for killing his brother the original Sub-Zero. The true murderer of Scorpion's family was Quan Chi. After Scorpion defeated the new Sub-Zero and learned the truth, the sorcerer attempted to transport Scorpion back to the Netherrealm. Thinking quickly, the spectre ran towards the sorcerer, sending both of them back to the Netherrealm.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
During the years that Quan Chi spent trapped in the fifth plane of the Netherrealm, he would be chased, brutalized, and tortured by Scorpion. Quan Chi had little chance of escape, as his powers were weakened while he was in the Netherrealm, and Scorpion's power and strength conversely increased. (Note: Quan Chi, as Shinnok's second-in-command, had previously resided in the Netherrealm. However, this was explained as a new region of the Netherrealm where sorcerers retain their power.) Quan Chi eventually struck a deal with the two Oni, Drahmin and Moloch, who fought off Scorpion for him. When Quan Chi escaped the Netherrealm through a portal, Scorpion followed him, but it did not send him to the same place. He continued to hound Quan Chi in a game of cat-and-mouse until he found himself at Shang Tsung's palace, where he was ambushed by Drahmin and Moloch, who had also escaped the Netherrealm. They threw him into the Soulnado, believing that it would eliminate the ninja spectre once and for all.

Mortal Kombat: Deception
Scorpion, however, managed to escape into the Void before the purity of the Soulnado tore him apart. While in the Void, he met the Elder Gods, and forever became changed from what he saw. He also witnessed Raiden's sacrifice and Onaga's dominance beginning to unfold. The Elder Gods were aware of his presence and enhanced his mortal and supernatural abilities, making him the Champion of the Elder Gods. The Elder Gods gave him a new mission, to seek and destroy Onaga before he unmade the realms. Scorpion emerged from the Void and returned to Outworld. Scorpion is seen in Konquest mode before Onaga goes to retrieve the Amulet from Quan Chi and fights Shujinko in the name of the Elder Gods. Shujinko won the battle. In his ending, it is said that Scorpion tracked Onaga through the realms to fight him, but it is actually unknown if he fought him, as it is known that Shujinko was the one who defeated the Dragon King.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
In Konquest mode, Scorpion was no longer willing to serve as the Elder Gods' champion. This was due to the bargain he had made with the Elder Gods to serve them in the first place; they would resurrect the Shirai Ryu clan along with the resurrection of his wife and son, in return for his services. While the Elder Gods did fulfill their promise, they brought back the Shirai Ryu clan as hellspawned warriors, the same as Scorpion. Enraged at what he perceived as their betrayal, Scorpion vowed to gain vengeance on the Elder Gods by removing the two things crucial to their plans to prevent Armageddon - the Edenian brothers Taven and Daegon.

In the battle between the Forces of Light and the Forces of Darkness in Edenia, Scorpion is seen fighting on the Forces of Darkness and battling Sub-Zero. He was one of the final kombatants to get near to the top of the pyramid, along with Shinnok. however, in the end he was killed along with the many others - his back pierced by Sub-Zero's Kori Blade.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
Scorpion first appears in Liu Kang's chapter attempting to ambush Sub-Zero but the Mortal Kombat Champion saves Sub-Zero's life by shoving him out of the path of Scorpion's Kunai and deflecting it, allowing the Cryomancer to escape. Enraged that his quarry had escaped again, Scorpion challenged Liu Kang to a fight and he was defeated. As the spectre reeled in pain, he was suddenly consumed by a yellow aura and vanished, leaving the Flash in his place in the Mortal Kombat universe.

Scorpion reappeared in the Bat Cave in the DC universe, right before the Dark Knight himself. Confused, Scorpion believed Batman to be Sub-Zero in disguise and challenged him, but in his poor condition he was defeated and captured for study. Batman then brought the unconscious Scorpion along in his investigation in Gotham City but the spectre awoke and escaped in the confusion of the Joker and Liu Kang's arrival.

He would reunite with Quan Chi in the Netherrealm and pull his arch-nemesis into the realm with his kunai, dragging Sub-Zero through a portal. Scorpion challenged Sub-Zero to a fight, believing him to have been his family's murderer, with Quan Chi goading him on. As Scorpion and Sub-Zero fight continued, the merging spread into the Netherrealm itself, allowing Quan Chi to free himself. He sent Sub-Zero back to Raiden and then ordered Scorpion to find princess Kitana, who had seen the face of their new enemy.

Scorpion returned to Gotham where he was confronted by the Joker, but he lacked the patience to deal with the clown prince of crime's antics and began to walk away, though he became enraged when he was struck from behind by him and fought him, easily defeating the Joker. Scorpion spared his life out of disgust and teleported to Themyscira, where he encountered Wonder Woman. He told her of his mission to find the princess but when Diana thought he was referring to her and offered her help. Telling her that he is not the princess he seeks, he begins to walk away. After she asked him to come with her, he rejected her offer and defeated her in kombat.

Scorpion next traveled to Metropolis where he met with Superman himself. Much like with Wonder Woman, he refused the Man of Steel's offer for help and gave him a hellfire covered kick for his troubles, shocking Superman when he discovered the source of Scorpion's powers were sorcery. Scorpion defeated Superman, punching him away into a nearby car and finally encountered a Kombat Rage infected Kitana, who believed he was an assassin sent by Dark Kahn. Scorpion defeated Kitana and managed to get her in a submission hold, calling out to Quan Chi.

The necromancer appeared with Baraka and Shang Tsung by his side and used his magic to place Kitana under his control. Quan Chi then spotted Captain Marvel approaching and ordered the three to deal with him in the Netherrealm while he went to Raiden. The three sprang their trap, with Scorpion using his kunai to yank Captain Marvel into the Netherrealm and was the first one to face the Earth's Mightiest Mortal, only to be defeated, his allies swiftly falling as well. They followed after Quan Chi and Scorpion witnessed the necromancer use the last of his magic to restore Kitana to sanity, pleading with Raiden to work with them to save the world.

Raiden agreed and so both Forces of Light and Darkness united, with Scorpion and Sub-Zero forced to work together. They went to face Lex Luthor and Catwoman at the Wu Shi Academy, though Luthor defeated both of them while under the Kombat Rage's influence. Scorpion would then join up with the united Forces of Light and Darkness on their journey to the merged Apokolips/Outworld and due to Dark Kahn's influence, he came under the effects of the Rage and faced the Flash in the final battle with the DC Universe.

Scorpion was knocked out as a result, but he revived in time to witness the realms be restored after Dark Kahn's destruction.

Mortal Kombat (2011)

Scorpion, the specter of the Netherrealm, was once a human known as Hanzo Hasashi. He was a member of the Shirai Ryu, a clan of Japanese ninja, known for bringing Ninjitsu and other secret martial arts to Japan from China. One day he, his family and clan were exterminated by the necromancer Quan Chi and his servants, who framed the Lin Kuei assassin, Sub-Zero for the atrocity. Scorpion's soul laid to waste in the Netherrealm, but was mysteriously and unexpectedly resurrected by Quan Chi.

Under Quan Chi's command, Scorpion entered Shang Tsung's tournament to avenge his death and those of his kin and clan at the hands of the Lin Kuei assassin, Sub-Zero. Upon Scorpion's first match in the tournament, he demanded of Shang Tsung to fight Sub-Zero, stating that he will have his head for killing his family and clan. He was unexpectedly challenged by the Shaolin Monk, Kung Lao, however, who was previously disguised as a Masked Guard. After defeating Kung Lao, Scorpion again demanded to fight Sub-Zero, but to no avail as Shang Tsung told Scorpion that he would demand nothing, and called Nightwolf's name as Scorpion's next opponent. Before their kombat, Nightwolf tried to reason with Scorpion by telling him that his aggression was misplaced, and that he could follow a different path, but Scorpion ignored Nightwolf's words, thinking that the path Nightwolf has chosen only dishonored his kind, and defeated him. Scorpion, more sternly this time, demanded Sub-Zero again, but was quickly calmed by Quan Chi. The previous victories of Scorpion impressed Shang Tsung, who told Scorpion that he will have his fight against Sub-Zero soon enough.

Raiden, having seen visions of the future, consisting of Scorpion killing Sub-Zero, and the latter's rebirth as Noob Saibot, urged Scorpion to defeat but not kill Sub-Zero. Scorpion at first refused to do so until Raiden promised him that he would make a request to the Elder Gods to bring the Shirai Ryu back to the realm of mortals, but only if Sub-Zero remained alive. Scorpion contemplated Raiden's offer of bringing his clan back to the world of the living, and eventually looked towards Raiden and silently nodded his consent. Raiden nodded back, and left with Liu Kang and Kung Lao, leaving the specter to think on this new turn of events.

Entering Shang Tsung's Palace, Scorpion was confronted by the Lin Kuei assassins, Sektor and Cyrax, who provoked him, saying that he would join his clan soon enough, but Scorpion kept his calm nature, and stated: "My clan may walk the Earth once more". Upon hearing this, an angered Cyrax shoved Scorpion, and Shang Tsung saw this as a challenge and declared that Scorpion would fight Cyrax and Sektor.

After defeating Cyrax and Sektor, Scorpion was confronted by his nemesis, Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero showed great disrespect to Scorpion and his clan's memory, stating "To hell with your clan!", which enraged the ninja specter, who answered Sub-Zero with "No... To Hell with YOU!", and immediately took both of them to the Netherrealm, where they engaged in Mortal Kombat. Scorpion emerged victorious and decided to spare Sub-Zero's life, only to have Quan Chi appear, ordering Scorpion to kill Sub-Zero. Remembering his bargain with Raiden, Scorpion refused, stating that Sub-Zero had been defeated and no further bloodshed was required. Knowing that the specter would not kill Sub-Zero unless he was provoked, Quan Chi conjured images of the Lin Kuei slaughter of the Shirai Ryu. The entire event was shown to Scorpion: his village was swallowed by flames, many Shirai Ryu clansmen were struck down by a rain of arrows while others were decapitated by Lin Kuei assassins, and more were run through by katanas from horseback riders and by arrows from archer marksmen, among them Sub-Zero.

Another image was magically conjured by the sorcerer. It showed Scorpion's wife and infant son huddled in a corner of their home during the Lin Kuei attack. The house's door slid open to reveal Sub-Zero, with a Katana in hand. Unsheathing it, and unaffected by the cries of Scorpion's wife, Sub-Zero brought the blade down. The vision faded and Sub-Zero, badly wounded as he was, was on his feet holding a hand up in mercy, telling Scorpion that was not him. Enraged and reneging on his deal with Raiden, Scorpion ripped the mask from his head, revealing a skull engulfed in flames of pure hatred.

Back in the throne room of Shang Tsung, Scorpion reappeared and Shang Tsung smiled in anticipation. Wordlessly, Scorpion held up a scorched skull with the spinal cord attached. The ninja specter had killed the Lin Kuei assassin Sub-Zero, rendering his deal with Raiden null. Head hung low, Scorpion dropped the skull onto the floor and with a loud scream, burst into flames and disappeared.

Near the first tournament's end, Scorpion fought alongside Quan Chi to best Liu Kang, the last Earthrealm warrior in the tournament, but even his and Quan Chi's combined power and effort were not enough to stop Liu Kang.

During Shao Kahn's tournament, Scorpion was summoned by Quan Chi to face Sub-Zero's younger brother, Kuai Liang, who had taken over the mantle and was trying to avenge his elder brother, Bi-Han. Scorpion emerged from the Netherrealm and quickly realized that the Sub-Zero before him was not the same that he fought and killed before. when the new Sub-Zero proclaimed he would fight in his fallen brother's honor, Scorpion roared in fury, "HE HAD NO HONOR!" and the two engaged in Mortal Kombat. Eventually Sub-Zero gained the upper hand and knocked Scorpion to the ground. But before Sub-Zero could finish Scorpion, Lin Kuei cyborgs captured him and Scorpion used the opportunity to flee.

During Shao Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm, Scorpion was confronted by Raiden in the Netherrealm. When Raiden expressed disappointment with Scorpion's decision to remain at Quan Chi's side, Scorpion scornfully told him to save his pity. Raiden requested an audience with Quan Chi, but Scorpion refused. Annoyed by this, Raiden accused Scorpion for not saving his family, enraging the Spectre. Scorpion then battled the Thunder God, but lost and swiftly teleported away as Quan Chi appeared.

Mortal Kombat X Comics
A lifetime ago, Hanzo Hasashi was the leader of the Shirai Ryu clan, husband to his beautiful wife Kana and father to his newborn child Jubei. However, his happiness was cut short when the Lin Kuei attacked his village. Hanzo fought valiantly, but he was killed by the Lin Kuei assassin Sub-Zero, his head and spine ripped from his body. The last image Hanzo saw was the frozen corpses of his wife and child.

In the Netherrealm, Hanzo was tormented and tortured every day, but he did not burn in the Netherrealm's hellfire. This intrigued the necromancer Quan Chi and he imbued Hanzo with the Netherrealm's hellfire. As he burned, Hanzo was promised by Quan Chi that he would receive vengeance and justice for his murder and the slaughter of his clan and family.

This led to the birth of the specter Scorpion, who would take his vengeance on Sub-Zero, even as the Cryomancer screamed his innocence. Scorpion was hardly satisfied and chose to continue fighting for Quan Chi. However, during the final hours of the Netherrealm War, Hanzo was restored to life, with Scorpion's hellfire still remaining under his control. Feeling he was undeserving of life, Hanzo contemplated suicide, but a chance meeting with the blind warrior Kenshi convinced him otherwise.

Soon after, he re-built the Shirai Ryu, aiming to help all of those who survived tragic events from the Netherrealm War and protect Earthrealm. Saving Kenshi and his son Takeda from Hsu Hao of the Red Dragon by killing him, he took Takeda under his wing for his protection, indoctrinating him into the Shirai Ryu. During Takeda's training, Hanzo, at the behest of his student, vowed never to speak of his father Kenshi to him.

Teaching Takeda for years as well as other students such as Fox, Hanzo was eventually contacted by Raiden, who warned him of a coming demonic entity that had escaped during the outbreaks from Netherrealm, and that Hanzo had to be on the alert despite his anger with Raiden for the many lives lost in the Battle of Earthrealm. After watching a sparring match between his students and scolding Takeda for not taking his training seriously, he informs the Shirai Ryu of Raiden's warning. However, Fox is possessed that night by the demonic entity through the Kamidogu dagger, which Raiden previously entrusted Hanzo to safeguard years ago.

Fox then poisons Hanzo with one of his own mixtures and bounds him by his own spear and chain, forcing him to relive his worst moments while Fox kills a majority of the Shirai Ryu. Hanzo hallucinates of his past during the Lin Kuei's massacre of the Shirai Ryu. Though he fights through the Lin Kuei with ease, Hanzo falls to his knees in grief when he happens upon the frozen bodies of his wife Kana holding their infant son Jubei. When the elder Sub-Zero arrives and smashes the ice holding their corpses, mockingly asking Hanzo how he feels from losing everything, Hanzo realizes what is before him is not Sub-Zero, due to the fact Bi-Han and Scorpion never talked about each other's feelings.

As he burns the illusion away, Takeda protects his sensei from Fox long enough so that Scorpion awakens from his delirium and escapes his bounds. Scorpion tells the possessed Fox that his clan is his family and snatches him by his neck as he unleashes a breath of hellfire upon Fox before grabbing the Kamidogu dagger from his hand as well to stab him in the heart with. Though badly burned, Fox is hardly fazed and knocks Scorpion back with a beam of red light, proclaiming he grows stronger with every drop of blood that is spilled. The demonic force mocks Scorpion for trusting Raiden and starts to state the daggers have a connection to Quan Chi before Takeda finally kills the possessed Shirai Ryu by cutting his head in half with a Katana.

Hanzo then takes the dagger from Fox's corpse and silently comforts the shocked Takeda. Later, the two burn the dead Shirai Ryu and set off, Scorpion determined to avenge his fallen clan once again, this time seeking Raiden, seeing the thunder god responsible for the deaths for entrusting the cursed dagger to Hanzo and desiring to know of its origins.

During their travels through the Himalayan mountains, Takeda expresses interest in his master's hellfire 'style' of fighting. When Takeda asks why he has never taught it to him, Hanzo makes it clear that hellfire is not a fighting style, but his curse to bear alone. After explaining his origins to Takeda, Hanzo reveals that hellfire is not his rage as Takeda believes, but a representation of the loss of his family that he can never lose.

Hanzo admits to Takeda that to wield hellfire he has to relive that moment, but if his burns for too long he risks destroying himself, every time. Takeda apologizes for bringing up Hanzo's personal past, but asks of the 'wise man' who helped him, asking why he never mentioned him before. Hanzo reveals to Takeda he never mentioned him because Takeda asked him not to, revealing it to be Kenshi.

Sometime later, Scorpion and his apprentice have made it to Raiden's Sky Temple, but Hanzo is wary of going any further and makes camp for the night. As he prepares a meal for himself and his student over their campfire, while explaining to an impatient Takeda his concerns over the fierce storm around the temple, a bolt of lightning strikes the campfire, and a furious Raiden grabs Scorpion by the neck, Kamidogu dagger in hand. Hanzo returns Raiden's rage as his kunai slips out of his gauntlet and into his hand.

Hanzo does not fare well against the possessed Raiden, despite the Shirai Ryu trying to rouse Raiden from his madness. Raiden electrifies Hanzo with a powerful stream of lightning, and while proclaiming that the demon has come to open Earthrealm to the Blood Code's power, Hanzo sees Takeda sneaking up on Raiden, armed with a sword. Hanzo weakly tries to warn Takeda away but his student impales Raiden from behind. Unfazed, the thunder god merely calls down lightning on the youth.

Teleporting in a blaze of hellfire, Hanzo saves Takeda before warping his student safely away, but Hanzo believes that Takeda died from Raiden's attack, enraging Hanzo. Scorpion reappears to face Raiden, trying to grab the dagger from Raiden's hand but teleports away again when Raiden tries to retaliate. When the thunder god mockingly asks how much fire he has left after so many teleports, Scorpion delivers a teleport punch to Raiden's jaw with such strength he partially breaks it, all the while declaring he has enough for a lifetime.

Scorpion gains the upper hand over the possessed Raiden, stabbing him with his kunai and choking the thunder god with his chain, all the while raging at Raiden for giving him the Kamidogu dagger that resulted in second destruction of his clan and for seemingly killing Takeda with his lightning. Bringing the thunder god to his knees, Scorpion prepares to kill Raiden, but stops when he sees that Takeda is still alive and rushes to his student's aid. After Raiden comes to his senses when his blood is purged of the demon's corruption, he calls to Hanzo and apologizes for his actions.

Distrustful, Hanzo tells Raiden to stay back but soon listens when the thunder god state they can save Takeda if they act quickly by taking him to the Jinsei Chamber, where Earthrealm's lifeforce will heal both Raiden and Takeda. After Hanzo does so, he watches as Raiden heals Takeda with the Jinsei and is complimented by Raiden for teaching Takeda well, as his apprentice's soul is fighting against the Netherrealm's reach for him. Once Takeda awakens, Hanzo immediately asks if he's alright with Takeda stating he feels invincible.

Raiden apologizes to Hanzo and Takeda before explaining that the Kamidogu daggers were the weapons used to defeat the One Being and that they are now used as keys to seal away Shinnok's Amulet. The thunder god reveals that he could not keep each dagger in the same location, which is why he entrusted one to Scorpion for safe-guarding. As Raiden seals the dagger he entrusted Hanzo in a vault in his Sky Temple, Hanzo scorns him for not telling him before and the daggers could lead to possession. Raiden apologizes to Hanzo for not telling him the dagger was more than a sacred relic and admits that he did not foresee a demon corrupting their power.

When Hanzo asks if Quan Chi is the culprit, Raiden disagrees but reveals Fujin is investigating the Netherrealm for his involvment. Hanzo asks who else has the daggers, and Raiden tells him each dagger is accounted for, save one. Raiden tells Hanzo of the mission he gave Sub-Zero to retrieve a stolen Kamidogu, but the Cryomancer never returned. Knowing whoever is after the daggers seeks to unseal Shinnok's Amulet, Raiden asks Hanzo to save Sub-Zero from the demon corrupting him. At his student's urging, Hanzo agrees to the thunder god's request, vowing to bring Sub-Zero back dead or alive.

Hanzo travels with Takeda to Kahishari, Japan, on Sub-Zero's trail. As they arrive in the city outskirts, Takeda is shocked to learn Hanzo lost to Sub-Zero in the past, though Hanzo is quick to call it a technical lost, citing that their battle was interrupted. When Takeda asks what Hanzo's plan for a rematch is, Hanzo only cryptically replies that Takeda is before noting how quiet it is. When Takeda notices a nip in the wind, Hanzo realizes Sub-Zero is close and orders Takeda to take his sword.

The two move into the city and Hanzo spots multiple Lin Kuei cyborgs. He orders Takeda to take two of them while he deals with the rest. Hanzo swiftly attacks a lone cyborg, but upon cutting its body in half, Takeda realizes all the cyborgs are frozen solid. Hanzo curses as he realizes it's not just the cyborgs but the entire city. Hanzo notes that Kuai Liang was never this powerful, even under Quan Chi's control, and Takeda suggests that the Kamidogu has already possessed Sub-Zero.

Following the ice, Hanzo orders Takeda to stay close and tells him to stick to the plan no matter what happens. As they arrive at a frozen temple, the possessed Kuai Liang greets Hanzo. Disgusted by Kuai Liang's actions, Hanzo tells him that while killing him won't bring back the people he murdered it will stop him from hurting anyone else. The possessed Kuai asks Hanzo who will stop him then, and reminds him of how much hellfire he's used to fight the Blood Code and that Scorpion is getting stronger inside him.

Infuriated, Hanzo slips into his Scorpion persona, drawing his chained kunai before warning Takeda that whoever possessed Fox and Raiden is now controlling Sub-Zero.

Scorpion asks if he is speaking with Kuai Liang or the demon dwelling in the dagger. The possessed Kuai Liang doesn't give a straight answer, only calling the Kamidogu dagger a key, not a vessel and that the real power is in the blood offered. The demon attempts to goad Takeda, but Scorpion holds his apprentice back and declares that whoever is behind this is going to burn before throwing two of his spears out and impales Kuai Liang, igniting the chains in hellfire as he drags the cryomancer over.

Sub-Zero freezes the chains and shatters them, launching an ice ball at Scorpion who teleports to dodge the attack, reappearing behind Kuai. However, Sub-Zero summons ice pillars around his body to impale Scorpion before throwing the Shirai Ryu aside. As Scorpion tries to orient himself, the demon possessing Sub-Zero mocks Scorpion for deluding himself into believing he is a man instead of a wraith, using his slide to knock Scorpion off his feet and then kick him across the frozen ground.

While Scorpion lies on the ground in a daze, the demon tells Scorpion that Hanzo Hasashi is a lie and when he dies, the real Scorpion will rise again, when the demon realizes Takeda has stolen the Kamidogu from Sub-Zero. In response, the demon uses the last of Sub-Zero's Blood Magik enhanced power to freeze another section of the city in a glacier, trapping Takeda and Scorpion in ice. Scorpion quickly recovers and breaks free from his entrapment, sword drawn, and resumes his battle with Sub-Zero.

Scorpion duels with Sub-Zero using hellfire coated Mugai Ryu, all the while refusing to heed Kuai Liang's pleads of innocence. Scorpion mocks Kuai's excuses of possession by saying Kuai took the Kamidogu for a joy ride, delivering a hellfire covered flip kick to Kuai's jaw before shattering his Kori Blades with his own swords. Sub-Zero momentarily gains the upper-hand and tries to reason with Scorpion by wanting to return to Raiden, but Scorpion only brings up his brother and clan's roles in the destruction of the Shirai Ryu.

When Kuai reveals he is the last of the human Lin Kuei, Scorpion declares they are both the last of their clans and decides to finish their feud. Scorpion summons two demonic minions from the ground to hold Kuai Liang in place before impaling him with both of his swords, commending Kuai's soul to the Netherrealm in the name of his fallen clan. Kuai weakly tries to remind Scorpion of their time as servants under Quan Chi, asking him if he remembers what it's like to be controlled by an evil spirit.

Scorpion disagrees and removes his mask, revealing his burning skull as he recalls the last time he held his son and the last time his wife called his name and the agony of losing them. Unleashing his hatred in a breath of hellfire, Scorpion prepares to burn Kuai alive when Takeda frees himself from the ice and calls to his master. Scorpion pauses to listen to Takeda as his student pleads with him not to give into misguided vengeance once again like the Blood Demon wants and reminds him of their plans to rebuild their clan.

Howling in fury, Scorpion dispels his hellfire and banishes his minions. Removing his swords from Kuai, Hanzo tells Sub-Zero he may not live for long, he will live long enough to reflect on his misdeeds. As he and his student begin their trek back for Raiden's Sky Temple with the Kamidogu in hand, Takeda tells his master he won the rematch but Hanzo dismisses this, saying Kuai was already injured and asks what good winning is when he is losing himself. Hanzo begins to plan for his next battle with Sub-Zero, though Takeda believes he is not coming back from his injuries. Hanzo tells his student that stranger things have happened.

Hanzo returns to Raiden's Sky Temple with Takeda, giving the thunder god the recovered Kamidogu. When Raiden commends him for sparing Sub-Zero's life, Hanzo makes it clears he was not doing him any favors, only cleaning up his latest mistake. Hanzo then asks who is next and Raiden assigns him and Takeda to go to the Kang Shaolin Temple where the Kamidogu of Chaosrealm is located.

Hanzo and Takeda arrive in the Henan Province of China where the Kang Temple is situated. When his student asks Hanzo if he ever fought Liu Kang, Hanzo admits they faced one another in the Shaolin Monk's first Mortal Kombat tournament, but when Takeda asks who won, Hanzo explains that it was not a traditional match, leading Takeda to realize Liu Kang had defeated him.

Hanzo ignores his student's awe at Liu Kang's skill to greet one of the masters of the Kang Temple, Shujinko, with a respectable bow. Shujinko reveals he knows why Hanzo has come at Raiden's request but refuses to hand over the Kamidogu of Chaosrealm. Hanzo asks why before explaining that the Kamidogu have been corrupted and recalls Fox's slaughter of his clan while under one of the dagger's possession. Hanzo asks Shujinko to consider what would happen if that power fell into the wrong hands, but Shujinko states that they already are by being in Raiden's hands and reveals who has convinced him of all this: A humble cleric named Havik.

Hanzo is shocked as the Chaosrealmer greets him and his student, his eyes whiting over as his Scorpion persona begins to take control with the Shirai Ryu grandmaster recognizing Havik.

Scorpion conjures hellfire into his hand in preparation to attack Havik, though Shujinko orders him to stand down, declaring Havik not to be a threat to anyone. Scorpion tells Shujinko he has been deceived and calls Havik an agent of the blood demon corrupting the Kamidogu. When Shujinko demands proof, Hanzo calms down and regains control of himself, admitting to having none, but notes Havik's familiar voice.

Havik asks to speak with Hanzo alone and Shujinko complies, leading a reluctant Takeda away, with Hanzo telling his apprentice to go. Havik is delighted to be alone with Hanzo and tells him he understands why he's angry, saying he's been working for the enemy the entire time. Though Hanzo has his issues with Raiden, he still makes it clear he doesn't believe the thunder god to be a traitor.

Havik attempts to convince Hanzo that Raiden deceived him about the blood demon simply to have Hanzo collect the Kamidogu for him. Hanzo calls Havik's claims slander, noting that the cleric has presented no real proof and declares they are done. Hanzo moves to collect the Chaosrealm dagger but when he tries to grab it, his hand passes through the blade, revealing it to be an illusion.

Realizing it is a decoy just as Havik mocks him for believing Shujinko would leave the real dagger exposed, Hanzo demands to know where the Kamidogu is when Havik suddenly seems panics and offers the real truth about Raiden. Hanzo demands he spit it out, and Havik tears the lower half of his own face off, revealing that he was the one who corrupted Raiden, Sub-Zero, and Forrest Fox, and states Scorpion is the next to be corrupted without Takeda around to save him.

Infuriated that Havik killed his clan simply to provoke him, Hanzo gives into his Scorpion persona and ruthlessly attacks the chaos cleric with hellfire covered kicks and punches, culminating in breaking Havik's neck before punching his head into bits of bone and burning flesh. His vengeance fulfilled, Scorpion begins to walk away when he whirls around in shock to see Havik staggering back up, burning and smoking but regenerating from his wounds before launching a counterattack that sends Scorpion flying through the chamber doors. Havik then reveals Takeda in a possessed Shujinko's grip, the Chaosrealm Kamidogu held at his throat as Havik threatens to make Hanzo's apprentice his slave.

Though Takeda apologizes for allowing himself to get captured, Hanzo reassures his apprentice that the situation is not his fault. Telling Havik he's made his point, Hanzo demands to know what the chaos cleric wants from him. Havik reveals he desires Scorpion's "friendship" so that fire and blood will "liberate" the realms from order under the Elder Gods rule, saying he only wanted Takeda as leverage, not caring what Hanzo does with the boy once he gives into his true nature.

Hanzo hesitates to act, allowing Havik to begin ruthlessly attacking him, unable to fight back without risking Takeda's life. As Havik demands to know how much farther he has to push Hanzo before Scorpion takes over, Hanzo tells him "All...the way", much to Havik's delight. Havik then begins ripping Hanzo's arms from their sockets, and while the Shirai Ryu nearly gives into his hellfire, he refuses, looking to Takeda with a single tear in his eye as he tells his apprentice that he will always have a choice.

With that, Havik punches Hanzo in the chest with enough force to puncture his flesh and collapse both of his lungs. Hanzo collapse in a pool of his own blood, and Takeda rushes to his teacher's side. As Havik eagerly awaits Scorpion's rebirth, Hanzo uses the last of his strength to tell Takeda to run, before succumbing to his wounds, dying in his student's arms. To Havik's disappointment, Takeda reveals that Scorpion was never another personality within Hanzo and as such, the hellspawn will not be reborn. Havik allows Takeda to leave unharmed, with the Shirai Ryu apprentice vowing to avenge his master's death.

Sometime later, in a surreal location appearing to be his burning village, Hanzo Hasashi stands alone as a voice tells him the fire is their home now. Hanzo refutes this, saying the fire is his heart beating. Proclaiming that he has something to live for, Hanzo tells the voice that struggling with him only got him killed. The voice, revealed to be Hanzo's inner demon, Scorpion, tells Hanzo that he can't protect Takeda without him. Confronting Scorpion, Hanzo tells his demon to "Get over yourself", and Scorpion draws his chains, roaring, "Vengeance is mine!"

Hanzo and Scorpion begin their battle, with Hanzo throwing his spear and chain at his inner demon, though Scorpion is easily able to dodge the attack, calling it a predictable opening. Dominating Hanzo with a barrage of blows, Scorpion tells his human half that victory in kombat demands more than one variation, before kneeing him in the stomach and summoning demonic minions to hold Hanzo on the ground. Calling Hanzo a depressed loner with a death wish without hellfire, Scorpion asks his human self why he denies the inferno within.

Hanzo painfully admits that he turned memories of his family into weapons, and Scorpion clarifies that it was to avenge their deaths, though Hanzo finally admits that they were avenged long ago. Enraged, Scorpion raises one of his swords over Hanzo, raging that an eye for an eye is not enough for his family or clan, and that for them, the wraith would burn the world. Hanzo asks his demonic half if he would burn Takeda too, and Scorpion snarls that the boy is already dead before stabbing Hanzo through the chest.

Ripping his sword out, preparing to stab Hanzo again, Scorpion declares that he doesn't need a heart that bleeds with survivor's guilt and that how they feel changes nothing about themselves. Stomping his boot down on Hanzo's neck, Scorpion tells him that what they do changes the world. Hanzo agrees that he has worn guilt like a noose around his neck long enough, and suddenly teleports in a burst of hellfire, escaping Scorpion's blade and demonic minions.

Giving into the inferno within, Hanzo throws a fireball through Scorpion's chest, leaving a gaping wound. As his demonic half collapses to his knees, Hanzo declares it is time for him to let his actions speak for themselves. Picking up the sword used to impale him, Hanzo says he will feel no more guilt and seek no more vengeance before cutting off the face of his inner demon, and will fight for justice.

Returning to Earthrealm, Scorpion arrives on Shang Tsung's Island, ripping Havik's head off in time to save Takeda from the cleric of chaos. A shocked Havik is held by Scorpion, who reminds the Chaosrealmer that he can't count on anyone but him before teleporting away.

Arriving in the Netherrealm, Scorpion carries Havik's head to the gates of hell, where he finds the Oni Moloch and Drahmin. Throwing them Havik's head, Scorpion calls it a fresh kill, and ignores Havik's pleas and cries of vengeance. Turning to leave, Scorpion tells Drahmin to make Havik's torture slow, but is stopped as Drahmin reminds him of his betrayal of Quan Chi. Amused, Scorpion states that he serves himself, and that while he didn't come for a fight, he is more than happy if they insist.

A week later, Hanzo literally crawls out of the Netherrealm through a portal of hellfire, appearing in the Himalayas before a shocked Takeda, with Moloch on his tail. As Moloch snatches his boot, Hanzo is saved from being dragged back as his student throws a hammer at the demon's head, knocking him back into the Netherrealm. Hanzo thanks his student for the assist, and explains with a grin to a shocked Takeda that he knows the way to hell and back by heart. Looking on, Hanzo sees rows of memorial plaques for their fallen Shirai Ryu comrades that Takeda has made, and admits that while the young man is still too impulsive and young to become Chujin, he happily declares his student to be the pride of the Shirai Ryu.

Mortal Kombat X
In the past events of Mortal Kombat X, Scorpion was among those serving Quan Chi in the invasion of Earthrealm. When Sonya Blade and her team, along with Johnny Cage and Kenshi, attempted to fly to Raiden's Sky Temple, Scorpion and Sub-Zero attacked them, killing all the members of Sonya's team. Although he incapacitated Kenshi briefly, Scorpion was soon tackled by Cage out of the helicopter before it crashed and was then defeated by the actor.

Some time later, when Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage traveled to Quan Chi's Fortress, Quan Chi intercepts them and has Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Jackson Briggs attack them. Scorpion faces against Sonya Blade and is defeated by her along with the others. After Raiden arrives to save Cage's life, Scorpion is fully resurrected to his human self along with Jax and Sub-Zero by the Thunder God when Raiden uses his and Quan Chi's magic to do so.

Five years before the game's events, Hanzo trains with Takeda Takahashi and is beaten. Proud of his student's success, Hanzo elevates him to the rank of Chujin, but when Takeda states he looks forward to serving the Shirai Ryu, Hanzo informs him his future is not with the clan. He observes his student's reunion with his father Kenshi and tries to convince Takeda his father is not an enemy, but Takeda refuses and rants at his father. Kenshi counters Takeda's beliefs that he abandoned him, confessing that he left him with Hanzo for training and protection.

During the same year, Hanzo travels to the Lin Kuei Palace when Kuai Liang invites him there. The Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei speaks to him about how they have both reformed their clans to protect Earthrealm and that they should becomes allies. Skeptical, Hanzo asks if this means Sub-Zero will finally confess that the Lin Kuei was guilty of the first iteration of the Shirai Ryu's demise. Sub-Zero then explains how he killed Sektor for completely turning the Lin Kuei into cyborgs and that he has discovered that his clan had lost its honor far before the Cyber Initiative.

However, they are interrupted by Frost, Sub-Zero's pupil, who attacks Hanzo. Believing that Sub-Zero's invitation was an assassination attempt on himself, Scorpion defeats Frost and attacks Sub-Zero. After fighting with the Lin Kuei Grandmaster, he prepares to kill him, but stops and calms down when Sub-Zero saves him from another attack by Frost. With Sub-Zero explaining that his intentions are true and Frost acted on her own intention, Scorpion forgives his old nemesis. In the Lin Kuei Palace, Sub-Zero shows Sektor's memory banks, revealing that the Lin Kuei had Quan Chi eradicate Hanzo's clan and family in exchange for their service, but Sektor refused to fulfill the agreement because Quan Chi resurrected Hanzo as Scorpion.

Sub-Zero then tells Hanzo if he had known about the Lin Kuei's role in the Shirai Ryu massacre before, their relationship would have been far different. Shocked by the revelation, Hanzo confesses to Sub-Zero he only killed his brother because he believed it was Bi-Han who killed his family. Sub-Zero expresses he holds no ill will toward Hanzo, as he believes that Quan Chi is responsible. Overcoming his shock, Hanzo states that there is a debt to be paid, and it will be with Quan Chi's life. He then bows to Sub-Zero, thanking him for informing him the truth, while Sub-Zero does the same.

In the present, after hearing that Quan Chi has been captured, Hanzo approaches Sonya Blade at the Refugee Kamp, demanding that the necromancer be handed over to him. When she refuses, Hanzo orders his ninja to attack the Special Forces, which he previously ordered to merely subdue his allies and avoid killing, not wanting to harm anyone in the process of taking Quan Chi. During the conflict, Scorpion defeats Sonya, Kenshi, and Johnny Cage when they attempt to stop him before taking Quan Chi. When Quan Chi pleads for his life while calling him "Scorpion," Hanzo slaps the sorcerer, declaring that he is no longer Scorpion, but Hanzo Hasashi. Enraged that Quan Chi killed his family and manipulated him to kill Bi-Han, causing him to lose the only chance to restore his family, he savagely beats Quan Chi.

Hanzo is interrupted by D'Vorah, who arrives to deliver Shinnok's amulet to Quan Chi. Scorpion attacks her when she attempts to save him, but then throws his Kunai through the sorcerer's chest. Pulling Quan Chi to him with his spear, Hanzo decapitates him, finally avenging the death of his family. However, just moments before his death, Quan Chi is able to free Shinnok. In an attempt to stop the fallen Elder God, Hanzo attacks Shinnok with Sonya, Johnny Cage, and Kenshi, but Shinnok incapacitates everyone flawlessly and captures Johnny. Following Shinnok's departure with D'Vorah and the revenants of Earthrealm's former defenders, a beaten Scorpion informs Cassie Cage and her team of the god's destination.

Mortal Kombat 11
The past revenant Scorpion is among the time-displaced warriors brought to present through Kronika's machinations, siding with her in light of the possibility of his family and clan's restoration. He first confronts Liu Kang and Kung Lao within the Dragon Grotto under Wu Shi Academy, activating the Grotto's traps. Scorpion is defeated by one of the two, with the latter finding out that stopping the traps is impossible. He disappears to escape poison gas, and returns alongside the Netherrealm version of present-day Jade to fight them. Once defeated, he uses hellfire to escape again.

As the recently revived Cyber Lin Kuei, helped by time-displaced Sektor and Cyrax begin to kidnapped and transformed Sub-Zero’s Lin Kuei clansmen into a brainwashed cybernized army, leaving the latter as the only survivor, the present-day human Scorpion, Grandmaster Hanzo Hasashi was alerted by the cyborg army’s return, rushes to aid Sub-Zero to destroy Cyber Lin Kuei productions once more before they will attack new Shirai-Ryu like Sektor did, who started the fire on the first clan’s massacre, selling his clan to Quan Chi so the sorcerer could both slaughtered and enslaved Hanzo’s soul. He and Sub-Zero manage to infiltrate the recently rebuilt Cyber Lin Kuei, defeating both Sub-Zero’s traitorous cybernized disciple Frost, recently revived Noob Saibot, and freeing Cyrax from the enslavement protocol, then eventually seemingly kills Sektor.

Due to the destruction of many Earthrealm’s bases other than Sub-Zero’s Lin Kuei Temple, namely both Raiden’s Sky Temple and Special Forces’ Base, Hanzo welcomes his surviving allies to the Shirai-Ryu Fire Garden as the only base left. Hanzo and the other Earthrealm heroes learns from the past Raiden that the other Elder Gods died and ceased to exist, and Cetrion and Shinnok are Kronika’s children, realizing the fallen gods’ mother was directly responsible for his family and original Shirai-Ryu’s tragedies through both Shinnok, Quan Chi and Sektor in many timelines. He and Sub-Zero went to Kharon’s place while scouting Kronika’s remaining army led by Cetrion in the Netherrealm. Hanzo then tells Sub-Zero to return to Earthrealm while the former plans to convince Kharon to join forces against Kronika.

Scorpion later arrives to confront his present counterpart, who was restored to his human form, after the latter defeats D'Vorah, who was torturing Kharon for refusing to assist Kronika. Scorpion believes that Kronika can restore the Shirai Ryu to their true potential and original bloodline, viewing the present Hanzo's Shirai Ryu as tainted and imperfect. The two Scorpions clash, resulting in the victory of the present Hanzo, who knows that his past self only sides with Kronika just to restore their wife Harumi, and their son Satoshi, not including other original Shirai-Ryu clansmen. Hanzo tells Scorpion that one of Kronika's goals would be to resurrect Shinnok, the very being responsible for their family and clan's demise.

When Hanzo is ambushed by D'Vorah, who poisons him with her venom, Scorpion, convinced by Hanzo's words, slices off her pincers and forces her to retreat. Scorpion's poisoned counterpart tells him that the Shirai Ryu warriors are defined by their heart, not blood, before dying in Scorpion's arms.

As per Hanzo's wishes, the past Scorpion returns in his place to Raiden's base of operations to see the Fire Gardens rebuilt, realizing that his present self was right. He defeats a suspicious Sub-Zero but is electrocuted by Raiden, who has started to become corrupted like his dark self thanks to Shinnok's amulet. Scorpion is healed by a reformed Raiden after some convincing from Liu Kang, and realizing Kronika's manipulation into pitting both Raiden and Kang against each other in every timeline.

Scorpion joins the fleet battle against Kronika's forces, and rallies to Fire God Liu Kang with the others. He, along with the other Kombatants besides Liu Kang, falls prey to Kronika's temporal reversion.

Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath
With his present self dead at D'Vorah's hands, the past Scorpion arrives in the Fire Gardens, realizing that his present self was right. As a misunderstanding between both Scorpion and Sub-Zero occurred, their fight from the original timeline did not occur, as both Scorpion and Sub-Zero were interrupted by the presents of Shang Tsung and Fujin. Believing that Fujin is corrupted and under Shang Tsung's control, Sub-Zero freezes the sorcerer, where Scorpion and Sub-Zero team up to fight Fujin, however both are defeated by the God of Wind. After Raiden intervenes and is defeated by his brother, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, and Raiden are told of the future outcome of the timeline that Fujin and Shang Tsung came from. During the debriefing, the group are confronted by Kronika at the Fire Gardens. Kronika freezes everyone in time except Shang Tsung and Fujin who manage to fed off the Keeper of Time with her Crown, weakening her in the process and freeing the others. With a new plan from their knowledge of the future, the group head to the Netherrealm with Kharon's Fleet, the Shaolin, the Tarkata and the Special Forces to invade Kronika's Keep.

Kharon's Fleet carrying Kitana's Outworld forces, along with some of the invading Special Forces, would be overtaken by Shao Kahn and a revived Sindel along with a deceived army of Shokan. Scorpion, nor Sub-Zero are seen on the overtaken fleets, nor are they seen with Raiden and the remaining Special Forces and Shaolin that invade the beachhead of Kronika's Keep and what becomes of both the Spectre and Grandmaster is unknown.

Hanzo returns into the New Era as a young boy, found by Smoke when trying to steal money for food in order to survive. Seeing how he was reminded of himself, he introduced him to Kuai Liang & Harumi in becoming the first student of the Shirai Ryu clan.

Equipment

  • Kunai: The Kunai is a harpoon-like weapon used most notably by Scorpion (Hanzo Hasashi or Kuai Liang) from Mortal Kombat onwards. According to Mortal Kombat Legacy, Scorpion was a master of the kunai. There are two kinds of Kunai: Big Kunai and Short Kunai.
  • Axe: An axe is an implement that has been used for millennia to shape, split and cut wood, to harvest timber, as a weapon, and as a ceremonial or heraldic symbol. The axe has many forms and specialized uses but generally consists of an axe head with a handle, or helve. The weapon is used by Scorpion in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
  • Long Sword: The Longsword is a type of European sword used during the late Medieval period. Scorpion uses a Long Sword in Mortal Kombat 4.
  • Ninja Sword: The Ninjato or Ninja Sword is a weapon generally portrayed as being used by ninjas in popular media despite having no real historical significance. It was straight, opposite to the curve of a regular Katana, and shorter to be easily brought during missions. In the Mortal Kombat series, it is used as a weapon fighting style by Scorpion in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Although Scorpion carries a long and short Ninja Sword on his back in Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition, Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, the Ninja Sword he uses in battle appears to be a third sword, as the existing swords remain sheathed when he pulls the weapon out.
  • Mugai Ryu: Mugai Ryu is the art of Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu of Japanese swordsmanship founded in 1695 by Tsuji Gettan Sukemochi. The primary facet of this art lies in attacking with the sword already out of the saya, or scabbard. Mugai Ryu follows the Katsujinken philosophy, the philosophy that the sword is not used to kill, but to give life. Often offering opponents the chance to surrender before killing them. Historically, Tsuji Gettan's style was based on battlefield principles and techniques honed from the Tokugawa period of Japan, tempered with the teachings and enlightenment of the Zen Priest Sekitan, under whom Tsuji Gettan learned the ways of Zen. Scorpion is a known practitioner of Mugai Ryu, although the philosophical doctrines are opposite of most of Scorpion's mannerisms. Scorpion wields a custom chokutō designed for maximum carnage and blood spilling with a razor-blade tsuba, or hand guard, and a serrated blade. Scorpion's chokutō is also noted for having "Made in Hell" stamped onto the blade.
  • Tantō: A Tanto ("短刀" "Short Sword", or "Dagger") is the smallest sword carried by samurai, meant for close quarters combat. It is also used in seppuku, the ritual suicide used to regain honor through death, also known in Mortal Kombat as Hara-Kiri. In Mortal Kombat 11, it is seen above Scorpion's katana on his waist.

Notable Techniques

  • Hapkido: Hapkido is a highly eclectic South Korean martial art that employs hand and leg strikes at a long distance and joint locks and throws at close range, emphasizing circular motion. In Mortal Kombat X, one of Scorpion's character variations is Ninjutsu. This variation focuses on utilizing Scorpion's ninjitsu training over his demonic powers, which involves the use of his dual swords. Ninjitsu is one of the only fighting styles made up of several other fighting styles, like hand to hand combat and illusionary combat.

  • Spear: Scorpion sends out a rope or metal chain with a tipped Kunai at the end, where it impales into the opponent's chest, allowing Scorpion to pull them through the air towards him for a free hit, as well as cause a small amount of damage. This move often follows the words, "GET OVER HERE!" or "COME HERE!". In Mortal Kombat 11, the attack has Scorpion step behind the opponent and slash them with his katana after pulling them in, knocking them down with no stun.
    • Flame Spear: In Mortal Kombat (2011), the enhanced version is called Flame Spear. Scorpion launches two spears at the same time, both covered in hellfire, and is armored while launching them. It also executes slightly faster.
    • Double Spear: In Mortal Kombat X, the enhanced version is called Double Spear and makes Scorpion launch two spears at the same time more quickly than the original. The attack can be enhanced a second time right as the spears successfully hit the opponent, where Scorpion ignites the chains with Hellfire and sends the flames to the opponent, igniting them on fire, dealing increased damage and stunning them, setting them up for a free hit.
  • Hellfire Punch: Teleporting behind his opponent, Scorpion strikes them with a punch. Called the Teleport Attack in Deception and Unchained; Scorpion gained this attack as a kick instead of a punch, however he regained this attack as a punch in Armageddon. In Mortal Kombat X, it can be cancelled by making Scorpion teleport back to the edge of the screen or behind his opponent, without actually making a hit.
    • Flameport: Both in Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat X, the enhanced version is called Flameport, and adds a flaming uppercut after he hits the opponent.
  • Leg Takedown: Scorpion trips his opponent with a leg scissor takedown. In Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, it is called Hellish Slide and Scorpion trips the opponent simply using the slide motion. In Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat X this move is called Takedown.
  • Air Throw: Scorpion throws his opponent to the ground while in the air. In Mortal Kombat 11, this attack is called Demon Slam and has Scorpion grab the opponent in the air with his hand wreathed in Hellfire, spinning the opponent in the air before slamming them down in the same direction and stabbing them in the upper back area with his sword. Also in Mortal Kombat 11, this attack cannot be performed when utilizing a Hop.
  • Foward Hellfire Punch: A version of the Hellfire Punch where Scorpion quickly dashes in front of the opponent, delivering a punch.
  • Fire Breath: Removing his mask to show his flaming skull, Scorpion spews fire on his opponent. In Mortal Kombat 11, it is called Demon Breath and has Scorpion's head turn into a flaming skull instead of taking off his mask.
  • Hellfire: Scorpion summons Hellfire to burn his opponent from underneath. In Mortal Kombat (2011), this attack is called Demon Fire. In Mortal Kombat X, it is called Hell Fire.
    • Hell Fire: In Mortal Kombat (2011), the enhanced version is called Hell Fire and in Mortal Kombat X, it is called Hell-Ferno. In both games it has a wider area and does more damage. In Mortal Kombat X, the attack can strike downed opponents when enhanced.
  • Flaming Backflip Kick: Scorpion performs a backflip kick followed by a trail of fire. In Mortal Kombat (2011) this attack returned as part of one of his combos. In Mortal Kombat X, it is used as his Breaker.
  • Inner Flames: Scorpion creates flames of Hellfire all around his body that damages anyone who comes into direct contact with him, even during a special move.
  • Flame Aura: Scorpion lights himself on fire, gaining a temporary damaging aura of flames, damaging the opponent should they be near Scorpion. At close range, the initial flare will light the opponent on fire as well, briefly stunning them. If Scorpion takes damage or connects his X-Ray, the effect ends immediately.
    • Burner: The enhanced version is called Burner and has an increased duration while dealing increased damage and increasing the damage the opponent suffers when close to Scorpion. Like with the original attack, if Scorpion takes damage or connects his X-Ray, the effect ends immediately.
  • Fire Ball: Scorpion throws a ball of hellfire at the opponent. This can be delayed or run-cancelled. In Mortal Kombat 11, this attack is called Hell Flame and has Scorpion throw the ball at his opponent's feet rather than vertically at them. Despite this, the attack is not considered a Low attack. Additionally, the attack is not considered a projectile. Scorpion can throw the ball of Hellfire at different ranges, called Close/Far Hell Flame, respectively.
    • Hell Ball: The enhanced version is called Hell Ball and deals increased damage. Additionally, it will destroy incoming projectiles, should they make contact with the Hellfire ball.
  • Minion Grab: Scorpion summons his minion to erupt from the floor right below the opponent, grabbing their legs, setting them up for a free hit.

  • Minion Drop: Scorpion commands his minion to appear in front and above his opponent to hit them with an overhead kick.
    • Minion Strike: The enhanced version is called Minion Strike and has increased damage and makes the minion knock the opponent to the ground.
  • Demon Dash: Scorpion incinerates the flesh and clothing off of his body, turning into a fiery skeleton as he dashes through his opponent, grabbing them by the neck then punishing them with a burst of Hellfire. Amplifying the attack allows Scorpion to summon a pillar of flames beneath the opponent and burn them even more, dealing increased damage.
  • Death Spin: Scorpion spins his spear around his body four times causing a multi-hitting attack with the final strike knocking the opponent away.
  • Burning Spear: Scorpion ignites his spear, increasing the damage on all spear attacks by 30% for some time. The attacks during Scorpion's Fatal Blow involving his spear are not affected by this damage bonus. Connecting or being struck by a Krushing Blow or Fatal Blow ends this effect prematurely. Amplifying the attack has Scorpion create a quick burst of Hellfire around himself when igniting his spear, damaging anyone near him. The Hellfire Scorpion summons can also re-stand opponents. The damage bonus to spear attacks remains the same.
  • Misery Blade: Scorpion enters a stance, slowly unsheathes his katana and gains a series of new attacks that come from his swords. If Scorpion does not use an attack, he will simply put his katana away.
    • Cancel: Scorpion quickly puts his katana away and returns to his main fighting stance. Doing this requires and spends a bar of Defensive Meter.
    • Hate Strike: Scorpion raises his sword and stabs the opponent overhead, knocking them down face first.
    • Tsuka Poke: Scorpion quickly pokes his opponent with the butt of his katana.
    • Hamon Sweep: Scorpion slashes his opponent's legs, knocking them off their feet. The attack can be amplified in two ways based on a button input, where Scorpion will perform either a Hate Strike or Hamon Sweep, however doing this creates an afterimage of Scorpion, creating the illusion he is performing both of the attacks in a manner to confuse his opponent.

  • X-Ray - Scorpion Sting: Scorpion teleports underneath some flames and re-appears behind his opponent, punching them in the groin before punching them again in the side of the face, breaking their skull and knocking them down. He walks over and tramples on their chest, cracking and breaking their ribs.
  • X-Ray - From Hell: Scorpion flies through the opponent and grabs them. Firstly, he delivers a knee to the jaw, thus breaking it and sending them into the air. Next, he fires one spear into the opponent's abdomen and the second one his opponent's skull, puncturing it. Lastly, he violently pulls back, sending his foe headfirst onto the ground, partially cracking their skull and breaking their neck. Scorpion is given the option to teleport behind his opponent if a direction input is used. Doing this version of the attack allows Scorpion to be much safer on block when the attack is blocked by the opponent.
  • Fatal Blow - Get Over Here: Scorpion slices his opponent with his sword and plunges his spears into their eyes. He then kicks them away, only to pull them back and bury the spears deeper into their head with a kick. Finally he slams the opponent's head into the ground, pushing the spear tips through the back of their skull. This attack was first seen in the Mortal Kombat 11 announcement trailer being performed on Raiden.

  • Knee Launch: Scorpion grabs his opponent, punches them in the gut twice, and hits them with a big knee to the face knocking them away. In Armageddon, he grabs his opponent, hits them with a big knee to the head popping them up in the air, he then draws his spear and shouts: "GET OVER HERE!", pulling them back down and ending with a kick to the face to knock them down.
  • Free-Fall Super Move: Scorpion stabs his spear into his opponent's chest, swings them behind him, and throws them to the ground.

  • Backward Throw (Mortal Kombat 11): Scorpion grabs the opponent and faces the screen, then kicks them in the knee, breaking it, then teleporting away while leaving behind an afterimage to restrain the opponent before coming back to kick the still standing opponent to the other side.
  • Swords: While in the Ninjutsu Variation, Scorpion gains unique combos utilizing his swords. Additionally, some of his basic attacks and combos will be altered from their original to incorporate his swords, including gaining a new Sweep attack.
  • Flip Kick: Scorpion performs a front flip and brings his flame-wreathed leg down in an overhead kick. This attack has armor breaking properties, ignoring the armor granted by specific abilities and Fatal Blows. When breaking armor, the opponent bounces off the ground for a juggle. When breaking the armor of a Breakaway, the attack deals increased damage, however this increase is extremely small.
  • Dark Soul: Scorpion throws two punches and follows up with a superman punch with his hand wreathed in Hellfire.
  • Falling Ashes: Scorpion performs a roundhouse kick and follows up with a spin kick with his leg wreathed in flames.
  • Death Spear Kombo: Scorpion can perform two new kombos involving his spear. This ability requires Death Spin to be equipped.

    • Hack and Slash: Scorpion kicks the opponent, then whips the opponent overhead with his spear before kicking it towards their ankles, knocking them off their feet.

  • Nether Hole: While Flame Aura or Burner are active, Scorpion performs either a Fire Ball or Hell Ball, with the ball of Hellfire burning a giant hole in the opponent's torso.
  • Little Devil: Scorpion performs either a Minion Grab or Minion Hold, only this time, the Minion disintegrates and in doing so, destroys the opponent entire body in the process leaving only their head.
  • Trial by Fire: Scorpion performs his Throw, only this time, he slices their throat and abdomen open before delivering a fiery uppercut that cause their head to explode.
  • The Klassic: Scorpion performs an uppercut, decapitating the opponent with a rising uppercut with their spine still attached. This Brutality is shared with every character.
  • Spine Ripper: Scorpion performs his backward throw, only this time, he breaks the opponent's leg with the initial kick but then pulls up on their shoulder, breaking it as well, then grabs their upper body and pulls with so much force that their spine pops out of their back from the force.

  • Heartless: Scorpion performs a Spear, pulling out the opponent's heart in the process.
  • Gutted: Scorpion performs his Throw (Forward), cutting a vertical hole through the opponent's chest and stomach.
  • Alternate Crispy Brutality: Scorpion performs his Crispy Brutality, only this time, Dan Forden's Toasty! will be heard at the end.
  • Alternate Heartless Brutality: Scorpion performs his Heartless Brutality, only this time he pulls off the opponent's head instead of pulling out their heart.

  • Toasty!: Scorpion's signature Fatality. Scorpion takes off his mask, revealing a skull face, and breathes a long stream of fire at his opponent, burning them alive.
  • Spear Slice: Scorpion takes out his signature kunai, slits his opponent's throat, then slices the opponent straight through the hip, their torso falling to the ground.
  • Annihilation: Scorpion goes into his victory pose as the ground begins to shake violently. Moments later, he and his opponent are automatically transported to Scorpion's Lair where numerous of his dead Shirai Ryu clan members rise from the ground to utterly destroy the opponent. The Fatality is presumed to be brutal enough to fade to black as the opponent is beaten before a splat and an intense scream is heard. In the console ports of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, instead of an army of Scorpion clones coming to maul the opponent, the opponent is immolated by no visible means upon arriving the Netherrealm. Scorpion goes into his victory pose as the ground begins to shake violently. In the Sega Genesis version, moments later, he and his opponent are automatically transported to Scorpion's Lair and automatically has the opponent burning alive.
  • Hand from Hell: Scorpion raises his hand to summon a giant, fiery, skeletal hand that grabs the opponent and drags them to Hell, immolating them in the process.
  • Scorpion Sting: Scorpion morphs into a giant scorpion, stabs the victim with the stinger, and rips their torso with his tail. This was most likely added due to fan complaints that Scorpion received a penguin morph for his Animality instead of his namesake creature, which Sheeva, for some reason, already had.
  • Spear Shot: Scorpion tosses his spear at the opponent's head. As the kunai is lodged in it, Scorpion begins to slightly pull on the rope a few times, then pulls one last violent tug, causing their head to break off. In the Game Boy Advance version, the kunai is lodged into opponent's upper torso and the move ends with an organ being ripped out.
  • Spine Rip: Borrowed wholesale from his rival Bi-Han, the original Sub-Zero, and with an ironic twist, Scorpion plunges his hand into the victim's neck and promptly rips the head off with the spine still attached.
  • Hellish Dismemberment: Scorpion fires his Spear to rip off the opponent's arm. He fires it off once more to rip off a leg. As the victim pleads for mercy saying, "No. No! NO!!" Scorpion slowly walks over to the opponent, holds their head and promptly snaps their neck, swiftly ending their life.
  • Lava Pool: Scorpion manifests a pool of lava below him and descends into it whilst a second drags the opponent in as the victim is burned by the hellfire. Moments later, the body is thrown back out of the pit, now reduced to a skeleton.
  • Split Decision: Scorpion unsheathes his sword and slashes his opponent through the waist. He then cuts his opponent's neck and delivers a powerful side-kick into their torso. As the head comes falling down, he slices it vertically in half.
  • Nether Gates: Scorpion takes out his spear and stabs his opponent in the chest, then wraps it around the opponent's neck. He then opens up a portal leading to the Netherrealm behind them, and kicks them in it. Afterwards, a portal opens up above him. His opponent falls out of it, their skin is melted off as they are now suspended in midair by Scorpion's spear in a position resemblant to hanging.
  • Stop Ahead: Scorpion emits a ball of flames from his hand and fires it through his opponent's chest. Afterwards, the victim's still-beating heart starts dangling from the gaping hole, and the opponent falls to their knees. Scorpion summons his sword and slices off his victim's face, exposing the cut brain and tongue as the face slides off. The opponent then falls down, making their brain slide out.
  • Who's Next!: Scorpion summons a pillar behind him and throws his spear into his opponent's head. He then pulls out his victim's head, throws it against the pillar and impales it there with his sword. This Fatality was first seen in the Mortal Kombat X announcement trailer, where Scorpion uses a tree instead of a pillar to impale Sub-Zero's severed head on.
  • You're Next: Scorpion covers his entire body with Hellfire and lunges towards his opponent, barreling through their midsection in a spray of gore, leaving only their spine intact. As the opponent looks at their wounds and exposed spine in shock, Scorpion unsheathes his sword and decapitates the opponent, then kicks their head into the air and fires his spear toward it, piercing through the forcibly opened mouth. This Fatality was first seen in the Mortal Kombat 11 announcement trailer being performed on Raiden.
  • Chain Reaction: Scorpion throws his spear into the opponent's chest and starts overheating it. He flips over the opponent's head and dives into the ground, vertically wrapping the blazing chain around the opponent. As he emerges back from the ground in front of his victim, Scorpion snaps the cooked chain like a whip, vertically bisecting the victim's body.

  • Friendship #1 - Scorpion Doll Sale: Scorpion whips out a Scorpion doll and text appears on the screen saying "Buy a Scorpion Doll."
  • Friendship #2 - Skull-in-the-Box: Scorpion winds up a box which makes a giant skull pop out of it scaring off his opponent.
  • Friendship #3 - Teddy-Ality: Scorpion brings out his kunai and pulls a giant teddy bear for him to hug.
  • Animality - Atomic Egg: Scorpion turns into a penguin and lays an egg under the opponent, which explodes and takes the opponent with it.
  • Hara-Kiri - Neck Snap: Scorpion kneels on the ground, turns his head one direction, and twists his neck in the other direction, snapping it.
  • Babality: Scorpion can turn his opponent into a baby.

Other

Standard Tactics: As a human Hanzo would use various different martial arts techniques and utilizing his kunai and sword. With his spectre state, he employs the same but also utilizes hellfire along with sending his opponent into the netherrealm.

Weaknesses: Hanzo has been easily swayed by people such as Quan Chi into believing Bi Han murdered his family[181]. Due to his anger at the lost of his clan he will not listen to anyone, only seeking vengeance.

Note: The power of the Blaze is not a universal amplification for every character, with characters having varying power increases such as increasing their power exponentially[182], "a thousand-fold"[183], tenfold[184], etcetera. As the Blaze's power is mainly based on making one's desires surface, the user isn't given the same amplfiication as others, thus the user can reach "Up to" Universe levels of power with it, but isn't automatically at this level just because they have the power of Blaze.

Note 2: It is noted by Ed Boon that characters surviving fatal blows and X-Rays are purely an in-game only thing and that in cutscene only characters like Raiden could survive a bullet to the head.

Trivia

  • Scorpion's name, "Hanzo Hasashi", may be a possible reference to Hanzō Hattori, a famous samurai and ninja during the Japanese Sengoku period.
  • Scorpion's Spear is considered a special projectile due to not being reflected by reflect skills.
  • Scorpion's "Get Over Here!" and "Come Here!", spear taunts, in all of the Mortal Kombat games and movies, were voiced by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon himself. Only one of these two taunts were featured in the games when ported from the arcade to the home consoles due to memory constraints. They are some of the most recognizable catchphrases in the fighting game genre.
    • During an interview, Boon was asked why Scorpion shouts "Get over here!" when performing his spear move, he replied that he thinks it is just comical for the "tough-guy, hellspawn" Scorpion to say something as random as that.
  • Dan Forden is responsible for the call of "Toasty" in relation to Scorpion. This originated in Mortal Kombat II, when a special input allowed Scorpion's Toasty! fatality to be performed anywhere. The message "Toasty!", would then be shown. In Mortal Kombat 4, Dan Forden screams out, "Toasty! 3D!!", in reference to Scorpion's Fatality displayed in full 3D. Another Dan Forden calling that refers to Scorpion is "Crispy", stated in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 when a player performs the Scorpion's Lair stage fatality.
  • Due to artistic license taken during the Mortal Kombat films and the cartoon, It was originally believed that Scorpion's spear was actually a snake-like creature spawned from the palm of his hand. In reality, it was a simple kunai thrown from his belt as seen in newer games such as Deadly Alliance and Deception (or in the case of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and The Journey Begins, launched from a small device on the underside of his gauntlet).
  • In various interviews, Ed Boon has openly admitted that his favorite character has always been Scorpion, and that any Mortal Kombat game would feel incomplete without Scorpion. While Scorpion was absent from Mortal Kombat 3, he was later added to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
  • Scorpion shares very similar armor characteristics to Monster in the Konquest Mode of Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Unchained. This was rumored to be the cause of Scorpion having an alternate scrapped 'Knight' costume, but in reality was made into a character itself, Monster.
  • Neither Scorpion or Sub-Zero appear in the Game.com version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
  • When the Elder Sub-Zero died after the first tournament, there was no immediate direct quote or statement, nor was there any strong evidence to prove that Scorpion had in fact done it.
  • Scorpion would always be the first opponent that the player faced in Mortal Kombat Advance.
  • He is the only character whose Hara-Kiri does not draw blood.
  • Scorpion's Toasty! is the Fatality that has appeared in the most Mortal Kombat games, having appeared in ten games. (Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition, Mortal Kombat 4, Mortal Kombat Gold, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat X)
    • It reappears in Mortal Kombat 11, however this time as a Brutality.
  • According to the official Mortal Kombat 4 strategy guide, Scorpion (and possibly the Shirai Ryu clan) is from Osaka, Japan.

  • In a Top 10 list hosted by Screwattack.com, Scorpion's Spear Shot Fatality was placed at #4 of the best Mortal Kombat Fatalities in the Mortal Kombat series. Screwattack also featured Scorpion in their popular online series Death Battle and pitted him against Ryu from Street Fighter in a fight to the death, in which he won due to his inability to be killed by physical attacks and his power to bring his opponents to the Netherrealm.
  • In a Top 10 list hosted by Screwattack.com, Scorpion was placed at #5 of the Best Ninja.
  • Scorpion is featured on the NetherRealm Studios logo.
  • In both timelines, Scorpion is the only competitor to kill an opponent (Bi-Han) in the first Mortal Kombat Tournament.
  • As Scorpion is practically the mascot of the Mortal Kombat franchise, parodies of him and references to his lines are abound in popular media:
    • A parody character called Sporkion appears in the game Adventure Quest Worlds.
    • Scorpion makes a cameo on the TV Show "Drawn Together", performing his Spear attack and Spine Rip Fatality from Mortal Kombat: Deception on Xandir.
    • One of the Trophies/Achievements in Tomb Raider (2013) is titled "Get Over Here!". It requires Lara Croft to fire a rope at an opponent then pull them off an edge 5 times.
    • In an episode of The Cleveland Show, Cleveland dresses up like Scorpion.
    • In Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Bionic Commando protagonist Nathan Spencer's Wire Grapple move has a follow-up in which he can drag the opponent to him much like Scorpion's Spear; furthering the similarities, Spencer shouts "Get over here!" whenever this follow-up is performed.
    • In DmC: Devil May Cry, there is a Scorpion easter egg. After Dante learns the Ophion Demon Pull Ability in Mission 2, he says "Get over here!" the first time he uses it.
    • The League of Legends character Shen has two alternate skins that reference both Scorpion and Sub-Zero.
    • The chain knife weapon and some grapple hooks in Terraria have a tooltip that says Scorpion's famous phrase.
    • Pudge from Defense of the Ancients shouts "Get over here!" when hooking an enemy.
    • In the 2D indie fighting game Skullgirls Encore, the character Squigly has a special move called "The Silver Chord," where she throws out the tail of her parasite, Leviathan, towards the opponent. Should the attack connect, there is a chance that either Squigly or Leviathan will yell "GET OVER HERE!" or "COME HERE!".
    • A Moga named Scorpius in the Facebook game Monster Galaxy is heavily inspired by him. Ironically, its element affiliation is ice, as opposed to fire.

  • In subsequent games after being restored to his human form, Scorpion is referred to by his real name, while his former Hellspawn form, he is referred to as Scorpion.
    • He denounces the name Scorpion for his actual name in Mortal Kombat X, and is referred to by his real name by characters in both Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11. His younger self, still under Quan Chi's influence and not yet restored, is referred to as Scorpion by other characters when differentiating the two counterparts from each other.
  • In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Scorpion occasionally appears in the Master Tower twice.
  • Despite being shown to conjure fireballs as early as Deadly Alliance, it never appeared as an in-game technique until Mortal Kombat X and later in Mortal Kombat 11.
  • During gameplay in Versus Mode in Shaolin Monks, after the player unsuccessfully uses his spear attack ten or more times, Scorpion will yell "GET THE FUCK OVER HERE!" or "GET OVER HERE, BITCH!" when he lands a hit.
  • After defeating Scorpion in Shaolin Monks, he gets dragged into the lava by skeletons. As his arm goes in, he gives the player a thumbs up. This is a reference to the ending of the 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, in which the T-800 gives John Connor a thumbs up before he is engulfed by molten metal.
  • In Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Scorpion has two different costumes (and is also the only one to do so); a padded costume resembling his Mortal Kombat II costume and another resembling his Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 costume. The first costume only appears in cinematics and artwork renders, while the second only appears within gameplay.
  • Scorpion was originally given Kano's throw move and Eat Your Heart Out Fatality in Mortal Kombat (2011), as seen during E3 2010.
    • Additionally, Scoprion also had Quan Chi's On Your Knees Fatality in early gameplay footage of the game.
  • Scorpion makes an appearance in NetherRealm's game Injustice: Gods Among Us as a playable guest character. He comes with an original design provided by famous comic book artist, Jim Lee.
    • In Injustice, Batman's grappling hook is used in a way similar to Scorpion's spear, where he shouts "Get down here!" when it connects in the air, referencing Scorpion's line, "Get over here!". Batman also utilizes a slide kick similar to Scorpion's Leg Takedown, however it trips the opponent into the air to the opposite side of Batman rather than taking them down.
    • Scorpion's inclusion would later lead to Sub-Zero and Raiden joining the Injustice series as guest characters in Injustice 2, with them receiving similar redesigns, again designed by Lee.
  • Patrick Seitz reprises his role as Scorpion from Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and Mortal Kombat (2011).
    • As in all the games in the Mortal Kombat series, Ed Boon provides the vocals for Scorpion's "GET OVER HERE!" and "COME HERE!", respectively.
  • This is the first game in which Scorpion's Spear does not stun on initial hit, and must be Meter Burned in order to actually stun.
    • Sub-Zero's Ice Ball would take on this trait with his guest appearance.
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us marks it the first time that Scorpion was a downloadable character in any of his appearances. In his other game appearances, he is usually playable from the start or as an unlockable character.
  • His clash line against Batman, "You are no Sub-Zero" is a possible reference to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, as Batman and Sub-Zero are rivals in that game.
    • Also in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Scorpion initially mistakes Batman for Sub-Zero in disguise.
  • When Scorpion is defeated, he is seen on his knees with his head spinning. This is a reference to the Mortal Kombat "dizzy" state that occurs before performing a Fatality on the opponent.
  • Scorpion's Victory Pose is based on the pose of the NetherRealm Studios logo, which also features Scorpion.
  • Due to be a guest character from another franchise, Scorpion is the only character to not have any reference to being on the Regime or Insurgency.
  • Scorpion is the only guest character featured in the game.
  • Scorpion was the first character in the Injustice series to be a guest character. This would later result in the inclusion of Sub-Zero and Raiden as guest character in the game's sequel Injustice 2, as stated above, along with the the additions of guest characters Hellboy and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
  • Scorpion's Injustice skin redesign would later reappear in Mortal Kombat X as a wearable outfit and in Mortal Kombat Mobile as a playable card.
  • Scorpion is playable in his Human form for the first time outside of flashbacks.
  • Scorpion's Who's Next? Fatality was first seen in the Mortal Kombat Xreveal trailer.
  • In certain Mortal Kombat X interactions such with Takeda and Tanya, Scorpion will speak Japanese at the end.
    • The phrase Scorpion says is "Itami wo kanjiru darou", which means "You will feel the pain" in English.
  • Scorpion has more skins than any other character in Mortal Kombat X, with a total of 8 different skins.
  • One of Scorpion's Brutalities in Mortal Kombat X, Just a Scratch is a reference to the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. In the movie, the black knight gets both of his arms cut off, calling the injury "just a scratch".
    • In Mortal Kombat 11, he says this during gameplay as one of his in-game taunts.
  • Scorpion is one of seven characters whose voice actor from the previous game returned for Mortal Kombat X. Others include Raiden, Liu Kang, Kitana, Mileena, Kano, and Quan Chi.
  • Scorpion is the only character with three stun abilities, these being his Spear, the second enhanced Double Spear and Minion Grab.
    • Leatherface also has a second stun attack, but it is a soft stun, which is not a traditional stun attack.
  • Scorpion's Arcade outfit is never seen in the Story Mode. This is also the same for Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero and Kitana.
  • During his Chapter during the cinematic cutscene, Scorpion shouts his "GET OVER HERE" when spearing Quan Chi. He also says it when trying to spear Johnny Cage during Johnny's Chapter.
  • Scorpion's name is mentioned in Injustice 2 by Sub-Zero during an interaction with Robin.
    • Scorpion is also a non-physical character support in some of the Multiverse Towers.
      • Additionally, one of Sub-Zero's head pieces has Shirai Ryu in the name, referencing the clans' past rivalry.
  • Scorpion has the most playable cards in the game, with a total of 9.
  • Scorpion is one of four characters with a class unaffiliated with him, this being his Strike Force Card.
  • Scorpion is one of three characters with Regeneration on his Special 2.
    • Mileena's Vampiress Card also has Regeneration for her Special 2, however it only gains Regeneration if the current opponent is suffering from Bleed.
  • Scorpion's Strike Force Card is the only card to use an interactable as a special attack.
  • Scorpion and Raiden are the only characters in Mortal Kombat Mobile to have their Injustice outfits as playable cards.
  • Scorpion's Klassic card is one of three Challenge Cards added to the Faction Wars store after its initial Challenge. The others are Klassic Sub-Zero and Klassic Ermac.
  • Scorpion technically has two Klassic Cards as his Klassic Card and Hellspawn Card use his Klassic outfit from Mortal Kombat 3, however the Hellspawn Card has a flaming skull and is not affiliated with the sub-class.
  • Scorpion's Klassic Card is one of three Scorpion cards where the Spear Special 1 does not stun. The second was his Hellspawn card, which applies a Fire effect and his Mortal Kombat 11 Card.
    • However, his Mortal Kombat 11 Card's Spear Special 1 can Stun and even cause Cripple, however the Krushing Blow must trigger.
  • Scorpion is one of the many characters with more than one Equipment Card.
  • Scorpion is one of the few characters that can kill the opponent with a Brutality.
    • Shao Kahn can also kill his opponent, however it is not considered a Brutality.
  • Scorpion's Hanzo Hasashi Card is the only card that inflicts two type of effects from Basic Attacks, a Bleed and Fire effect, however the Fire effect lasts for less than a second.
    • It is also the only card in the game to inflict damage-over-time effects from its Passive rather than from Equipment Cards.
  • Scorpion's Mortal Kombat 11 Card, and in a technical sense his Hanzo Hasashi Card, are some of the few character cards in the game that inflict debuff from their Combo-Enders.
  • Scorpion was the first character that was able to perform a Friendship.
  • Both Scorpion's Fatal Blow and You're Next Fatality are both seen in the official Mortal Kombat 11 reveal trailer.
    • Raiden also performs his Fatal Blow after Scorpion performs his on Raiden.
  • Scorpion is seen in his Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Klassic outfit in the official reveal trailer, however it is not present in the actual game. His Klassic outfit from the first Mortal Kombat is present in the game through DLC along side the purchase of Shang Tsung.
  • Scorpion, on two occasions, shouts his "COME HERE" and "GET OVER HERE" lines in the Story Mode. He speaks the former if Sub-Zero in chosen during their shared Chapter where Hanzo fights the Cyber Lin Kuei and speaking the latter when saving Kharon from D'Vorah.
  • Many of the Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 11 reference older Fatalities, in this case, Scorpion's Brutality Crispy is a clear reference to his Toasty! Fatality.
  • This is the second game after Scorpion's guest appearance in Injustice: Gods Among Us where his Spear does not stun on initial hit, and must be amplified to cause the stun effect.
    • His Spear works similar to the one in Injustice: Gods Among Us.
  • This is the first game in which Scorpion's teleport, called Hell Port in the game, can be avoided simply by ducking. The attack can strike ducking opponents if it is amplified, however.
  • Scorpion is one of the two playable characters to be playable in two chapters of the Story Mode alongside Liu Kang, with the respective first chapters they appeared with their partners (Sub-Zero to Scorpion and Liu Kang to Kung Lao), before went solo in the respective next chapters with special cases (Scorpion has both iterations of himself playable in two halves, while Liu Kang is playable under his new story-only Thunder-Fire God form).
  • Scorpion is one of three characters with more than two Brutality Victory Poses besides the default versions. The first was Sub-Zero and the second being Shang Tsung.
    • One of Scorpion's Brutality Victory Poses alters after performing his Crispy Brutality, resulting in a flaming skull.
    • Sub-Zero can alter the Ice Klone he summons with specific inputs.
      • This may have been inspired by his guest appearance in Injustice 2, where his Ice Klone changes appearances based on equipment selected.
    • Shang Tsung morphs into any opponent he defeats or even remains as himself. He will also perform any and all Brutality Victory Poses as the opponent if he steals their Brutality, resulting in him having the most Brutality Victory Poses out of any character.
  • An interaction with Jacqui reveal that she and his pupil Takeda are engaged, where he reveals that through marriage, Jacqui will also be a part of the Shirai Ryu.
  • An interaction with Noob Saibot reveals that Noob takes responsibility for the extinction of the original Shirai Ryu, despite the clan actually being exterminated by Quan Chi.
    • This is interesting because in Mortal Kombat (2011), Bi-Han tries to reason with Scorpion before Scorpion kills him, stating he had nothing to do with the Shirai Ryu's extinction, along with the murder of Scorpion's wife and son.
  • Another interaction with Noob Saibot has Noob question their allegiance due to them both being Revenants created by Quan Chi. Scorpion will reveal that once Quan Chi died, the allegiance was broken.
  • Scorpion, along with Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot are three Klassic ninjas integrated into Shang Tsung's Fatal Blow.
  • When interacting with Spawn, both Hellspawns reference past games they have made guest appearances in, Scorpion referencing Injustice: Gods Amongst Us and Spawn referencing his guest appearance in Soulcalibur II, with Spawn saying his "soul still burns".
    • Additionally, when interacting with Spawn, Scorpion is aware of who Malebolgia is.
  • Hanzo returns in the New Era as the first student of Kuai Liang & Harumi's Shirai Ryu clan.
