Presence Manipulation
Background
Presence Manipulation is the ability to consciously control, alter, or suppress one’s presence or the presence of others. This includes not only physical visibility but also the metaphysical or psychological awareness of someone’s existence—how detectable or influential they are within a space. Presence in this context can refer to how others perceive, sense, or are affected by a being’s aura, energy, influence, or overall existence.
Users of this ability can amplify their presence to become overwhelmingly noticeable, inspiring awe, fear, or submission, or suppress it entirely to become undetectable to senses, energy perception, or even metaphysical observation. More refined users may target specific individuals, manipulate the emotional or mental effects of their presence, or shift the perception of their existence across locations.
Also Called
- Aura Manipulation
- Existential Concealment
- Presence Shifting
- Existential Pressure Control
- Perceptual Presence Control
Possible Applications
- Increase one's presence to dominate or intimidate enemies.
- Suppress presence to become undetectable by physical, magical, or spiritual means.
- Redirect one’s presence to create decoys or false positions.
- Amplify the presence of others to make them more noticeable or distracting.
- Mask the presence of allies, aiding stealth or escape.
- Generate existential pressure that causes paralysis, fear, or subconscious submission in those nearby.
- Diminish another’s presence to cause them to be ignored, forgotten, or unnoticed.
- Weaponize one’s presence as a shockwave or force of will.
Practical Uses
- Allows the user to sneak past enemies or surveillance undetected.
- Enables psychological warfare by overwhelming foes with a crushing aura.
- Useful for commanding respect or asserting dominance in social or battlefield scenarios.
- Can make the user functionally invisible without altering physical appearance.
- Aids in protecting others by concealing or redirecting hostile attention.
- Useful for mental infiltration or bypassing security reliant on awareness or attention.
- Reduces targeting accuracy of enemies, making it hard for them to focus on or aim at the user.
Potential Types
- Suppressive Presence: Minimizing or erasing one's perceptibility to evade detection.
- Dominant Presence: Maximizing presence to intimidate, paralyze, or control a crowd or enemy.
- Redirective Presence: Altering where or how one's presence is perceived (e.g., illusion of being elsewhere).
- Disruptive Presence: Creating pressure or interference that affects the senses, concentration, or mobility of others.
- Empathic Presence: Influencing emotional states through aura or energy-based resonance.
- Existential Presence: Affecting how "real" or tangible one appears on an ontological level.
Possible Limitations
- Overuse of dominant presence may exhaust the user or create unintended fear or chaos.
- Suppressing presence might make allies unable to find or communicate with the user.
- Presence manipulation may be resisted by entities with immunity to mental or sensory interference.
- Can be dependent on the user’s emotional or mental state—fear or uncertainty may reduce control.
- Certain detection methods (like absolute perception or divine insight) may bypass suppression.
