Joining the Codex Wiki Discord

This page is to discuss how to join The Codex Wiki's discord as it is no longer something anyone can join. The reason for the stricter requirements now for joining are due to a lot of people joining the discord and never using the website. Along with this they for the most part lurk and never actually comment or put in any input on anything. The purpose of the discord is to service the wiki. So due to this the discord has been closed from the public. If one wishes to join however, there are some requirements.

How to Join

To join requires a small amount of steps:

1. You must be an active member on the wiki for at least a week (whether it is editing, making pages, or using the forums). This may seem like a long time, but it reinforces that you're here to use the wiki and not just lurk on the discord.
2. After a week of activity, you must message GiverOfThePeace and then you'll be given a link to the discord.

While in the Discord

Your activity will still be tracked while in the discord, as obviously someone could just go active for the week and then proceed to go completely inactive as soon as they join.

When you fist join you are on a one-month probation where you need tos how you're still being active and not trying to lurk. In this case, specifically active on the wiki.

After the probation is off, activity is still required but it isn't as hardly enforced.

Also, respectfully, here are some things we will not allow:

• You're joining the discord but you happen to have to go inactive for a while. Maybe it is true, but if you can't be active there's no reason for you to be on the discord, you can easily rejoin when you're able to be active on the wiki and discord again.
  • Alternatively as soon as you finish the probation you happen to have to go inactive for a while. Same issue applies.
• Any reveal that you are screenshotting stuff said in the discord and sending it to another server purely because it has scaling discussions you dislike will result in an auto-ban from the discord. You are free to use the wiki if you'd like but you would no longer be allowed on the discord.
• If all you do all day is post "scales" from other wikis this does not count as activity and we will not keep you on just because you're angry another wiki scales something differently.

FAQ

• Q: How do I be active? Making pages?
• A: Obviously you can make pages, but a good example of activity is just being active in the forums, making basic edits on pages and such. For reference active on forums doesn't simply mean going "I agree on a thread" everyday or forcing yourself to comment on versus threads for two series you realistically don't know or care about. It also means asking questions, attempting to see if maybe there's changes that should be done to the wiki, and more. We don't ban topics or threads from being asked or attempted to be revised so you're fully welcome to do so. Activity doesn't mean literally everyday either, just that you are effectively on the wiki commonly. Now if you are active for the first day of the week and then go inactive and randomly become active again on the last day of the week and try to join that way it wouldn't work, it would need to be at least 3 to 5 days out of the seven.

• Q: Well I just wanted to join the discord to keep update on what's happening on the wiki, so can't I just be let into the discord on that?
• A: Then you can just view threads or look at page updates to do so. The discord is not a place for news updates and such, those will happen on the website.

• Q: What if I want to ask a mod a question? I'm not too familiar with talk pages.
• A: There is a wiki chat I (GiverOfThePeace) am usually always AFK in where you can message me there. If I don't respond while in there just send a message on my talk page as it's already open and has a directly message that one can reply to.

• Q: But discord is quicker for messages and I don't always use the wiki so I may miss a message, can't I just join for the convenience?
• A: Understandable, however, if you aren't that active in the first place on the wiki, why would it make sense for us to let you join the discord that's meant to service the wiki? Chat is also decently quick for discussion too. On top of this, these discussions aren't meant to be quick, we're not "debating" here, we're discussing.

• Q: I don't really care about using the wiki, I just want to fix something and it's quicker if it's done through discord, so can't I just join for that and then leave?
• A: No. You can easily just make a thread if you want to fix something, it's up to you if you want to pursue this. We are not making exceptions.

• Q: I was working on a page for an entire week so I couldn't really be active, can't we just count me working on the page for the entire week?
• A: While it is good that you were working on the page, there's not really a reason for you to join the discord. The discord would be for cases like linking errors on pages and stuff in a faster manner, if you're just working on pages you don't really need it.
