Splitting
Introduction
Splitting is the ability to divide an object, entity, or being into separate parts or pieces. These parts may retain the original properties of the whole, but they can function independently or be used for various purposes. Unlike duplication, where identical copies of a being or object are created, splitting involves a division of the existing entity, often resulting in separate components that maintain some connection to their original form. This is a sub-ability of Partition Manipulation, while also carrying similarities to Duplication and Severing.
While Duplication creates copies of an object or being, Splitting involves dividing the original entity into smaller components. In duplication, each new copy is an independent, exact replica of the original, usually sharing the same abilities, appearance, and memories. In contrast, splitting creates separate parts that may be less powerful than the whole or may function in a different way, though they still originate from the original entity. In some cases, splitting can result in a weakening of the original or a partial loss of function, as the original entity is divided.
For example, a character who duplicates themselves may have an identical copy, whereas a character who splits themselves might create weaker or more specialized parts, each carrying out a specific role but lacking the complete abilities of the original form.
Types
- Partial Splitting: The user can divide part of an entity or object, leaving the rest intact. This can be used to separate specific functions or components without completely dividing the whole.
- Complete Splitting: The entire entity or object is divided into smaller pieces, each potentially capable of independent existence or operation.
- Self-Splitting: The user can split themselves into multiple versions or pieces, allowing them to be in multiple places or perform different actions simultaneously. These splits may still retain their original abilities or be reduced in power based on the nature of the split.
Possible Applications
- Strategic Division: The user can split a powerful object or being into multiple pieces to distribute power or change its purpose for strategic reasons.
- Multiplication of Efforts: By splitting, a user can carry out multiple tasks at once, such as sending out separate pieces to perform different actions simultaneously.
- Resource Division: The user can split an object into smaller parts that may be easier to manage, transport, or use for specific purposes.
Limitations
- Weakened State: The individual parts resulting from splitting may be weaker or less effective than the original entity, depending on the user's control over the ability.
- Limited Control: The user may have less control over the separate parts after splitting, especially if they are not capable of maintaining their integrity or coherence after division.
- Dependency on Original Form: In some cases, the parts may require the original form to maintain their functionality or revert back to a whole state.
Users
- Giant Bat (Castlevania): The Giant Bat can split into smaller bats to get around attacks or attack with a multitude of bats.
