| The story revolves around beings known as Planeswalkers. One in a million people are born with a Planeswalker spark, and it is even rarer for it to ignite. However, due to the infinite size of the multiverse, Planeswalkers are vast in number.

They used to be god-like entities, until the Mending happened due to the amount of temporal rifts there were in the multiverse. That is the in-verse explanation, while the out-of-verse explanation is WotC finds it hard to make stories revolving around god-like entities.
