Reforming

From The Codex
Jump to navigationJump to search

Background

Reforming is the ability to reconstruct one's body or existence after complete destruction, dispersal, or disintegration. Unlike Regeneration, which involves recovering from wounds or regrowing lost body parts, reforming allows an entity to return even if nothing remains of their physical form. This ability is common among beings made of energy, mist, shadows, or supernatural entities who do not rely on conventional biological recovery.

While both abilities restore a being to a previous state, reforming is typically a more extreme form of survival, allowing return from states where conventional regeneration would be impossible.

Possible Types

  • Low: The ability to reform from basic fragmentation, such as being shattered into pieces but not reduced to dust or liquid.
    • Users:

  • Mid-Low: The user can return after being reduced to a liquid or viscous state, such as being melted or turned into a puddle.
    • Users:

  • High-Low: The user can reform even after being vaporized into mist or gas, restoring their full form from dispersed matter.
    • Users:

  • Low-Mid: The user can return from being completely converted into energy or dispersed into non-solid states.
    • Users:

  • Mid: The user can reform after being completely erased from existence, provided some aspect of them remains (e.g., a soul, consciousness, or external anchor).
    • Users:

  • High: The user can return even after being erased from all aspects of time and space, reconstructing themselves beyond conventional existence.

Differences from Regeneration

  • Regeneration repairs an existing body, while reforming allows a character to return even if nothing remains.
  • Regeneration typically has limits based on healing speed and biological constraints, whereas reforming can be instantaneous or delayed, depending on the user’s power.
  • Reforming is more common among supernatural, energy-based, or conceptual beings, whereas regeneration is associated with biological and mystical healing processes.

Possible Limitations

  • Reforming may take time, preventing immediate return to combat.
  • Certain destruction methods, such as sealing or conceptual erasure, may prevent reforming.
  • Requires an external anchor, such as an energy source, soul, or spiritual domain.
  • Some forms of reforming may not restore memories or intelligence.
