She's a princess winning battles through the break of dawn

Don't worry when it's night, 'cause she will keep the lights on!

Oooh, there goes a shining star!

Evil won't deter her (No sir!), 'cause magic flows through her (Star Butterfly!)

She's a shining star!''

~ Season 3's Ending

Background

Star vs. the Forces of Evil is an American animated television comedy produced by Disney Television Animation for Disney Channel and Disney XD. The series had a sneak peak premiere on Disney Channel on January 18, 2015, and it officially started on Disney XD on March 30, 2015.

The show was created by Daron Nefcy (former storyboard revisionist for Wander Over Yonder), the first woman to create a show for Disney XD and the second to create a series for Disney Television Animation. Dave Wasson serves as director and Jordana Arkin as story editor, while both also co-executive produce the series.

Disney XD ordered a second season for Star vs. the Forces of Evil before its official premiere on March 30, 2015. On March 4, 2016, they ordered a third season. On February 28, 2017, Disney XD ordered a fourth season.

The fourth and final season ended on May 19, 2019.

Star vs. the Forces of Evil is an animated comedy adventure that follows fun-loving magical teen princess, Star Butterfly, who — after a few bold skirmishes with other-worldly monsters — is sent by her Royal Parents to live with the Diaz family on Earth, bringing along her own unique inter-dimensional style to her new planet. With the Diaz's teenage son Marco by her side, this foreign exchange student from another dimension embarks on new adventures battling evil villains throughout the multiverse and in high school, all in an effort to protect her powerful magic wand which she is still figuring out how to use.

Terms

  • Dimensional Scissors: Dimensional scissors are used for traveling between dimensions. By cutting anywhere in the air with the desired dimension to travel to in mind, the scissors create a portal. The portal itself usually reflects the designated dimension, like the portal to the Amethyst Arcade being pixelated and the portal to the Scum Bucket looking like blue waves. After someone passes through the portal, the portal either closes by itself or it can manually be closed by someone. The scissors can also be used as weapons, as demonstrated by Hekapoo. As revealed in "Deep Dive" and "Ludo, Where Art Thou?", if a scissors user does not have a specific destination in mind when using them, the portal that they open leads to a dead end.
  • Dimension: A dimension is an alternate reality parallel or separate from Earth, which is accessed by the use of a pair of dimensional scissors that open a portal to a random dimension. Dimensions are commonly seen in the opening theme song of the show. They should not be mistaken with spatial dimensions.
  • Royal Magic Wand: The Royal Magic Wand is a magical item and the greatest heirloom of the Butterfly family, the ruling sovereigns of Mewni. Star Butterfly is given the wand by her mother, Queen Moon Butterfly when she turned fourteen, and she must protect it while attempting to master its power. The components of the wand includes:
    • Crystal: The focusing point of the wand for spell-casting.
    • Bell: The wand's sphere-shaped head. Houses the wand's mill and magic core.
    • Mill: A treadmill run by the wand's "Millhorse". The mill grinds crystals from the wand charger and powers the wand. If the wand is low on crystals, the mill has nothing to grind, causing the Millhorse to run itself ragged.
    • Grip: The wand's handle.
    • Charge port: The port at the wand's base where the wand charger is plugged in.
    • Wand charger: The wand's magical battery, supplying crystals to the mill. As revealed in "Quest Buy", the wand's operation relies on it being charged. If the wand is not regularly charged and runs out of power, it will die forever. According to Star vs. the Forces of Evil: The Magic Book of Spells, what crystals power the wand is different for each queen.

Verse Scaling

Physically: Anyone in season 1 that can harm Star Butterfly should scale to her feat of destroying a watch tower.

Anyone in season 2 that can harm River Butterfly's should scale to his feat of leveling a good chunk of forest upon landing which was calculated at this.

Anyone in season 3 that can harm Star should scale to her durability feat of tanking the whispering spell.

Magic: Anyone truly trained with magic should scale to Toffee's magic feat of one-shotting Omnitraxtus Prime, who embodies the infinite universes.
