Free-Running
From The Codex
Background
Free-Running is a stylized form of traversal movement that emphasizes creativity, flair, and freedom of motion, often blending the functional aspects of parkour with the aesthetic goals of acrobatics. It allows the user to move dynamically through an environment using flips, spins, vaults, and elaborate body maneuvers, usually to showcase control, style, or performance beyond mere efficiency.
In a fictional context, free-running becomes a visual and often theatrical display of physical excellence. It may involve heightened acrobatics, gravity-defying stunts, or movement enhanced by superhuman agility. Unlike parkour, which is built around practicality, free-running celebrates movement as an expressive art.

Possible Applications
- Escaping or navigating through dense urban areas with acrobatic flair.
- Performing stylish evasion techniques during battle or pursuit.
- Traversing complex terrain while maintaining speed and grace.
- Engaging in high-risk stunts for distraction, intimidation, or showmanship.
Practical Uses
- Often used by characters who want to remain mobile while maintaining a strong visual presence.
- Can serve as a means of intimidation, distraction, or performance in a story context.
- Combines well with Agility, Enhanced Balance, and Acrobatics for more elaborate feats.
- Ideal for chase scenes or stylized movement sequences.
Potential Types
- Artistic Free-Running: Focused on visual flair, performance, and non-linear paths.
- Combat Free-Running: Combining stunts with martial arts or weapon usage mid-movement.
- Enhanced Free-Running: Uses supernatural traits to perform otherwise impossible stunts.
Possible Limitations
- Less practical in constrained or low-clearance environments.
- May sacrifice efficiency for aesthetics—slower than parkour in tight races.
- Requires spatial awareness, timing, and physical condition to execute properly.
- Vulnerable while airborne or mid-stunt without proper control.
Users
- Hazel Flood (South of Midnight): Can run along stranded walls and jump off of them without losing any momentum due to connecting to the very Grand Tapestry itself.
