Buy n Large
The Buy n Large Corporation, often shortened to BnL Corp., is a multinational technology conglomerate within the WALL•E universe. WALL•E himself was manufactured by Buy n Large. To promote the film, Disney created a Buy n Large domain and built a viral website for marketing purposes. The domain now redirects visitors to the official Disney Movies page for WALL•E.

According to The History of Buy n Large, the corporation began as a frozen yogurt maker operating under the name Buy Yogurt. The business later acquired Large Industries, a men's suit company. The merged entity became an internet marketing service corporation called Buy 'n Large, originally spelled with an apostrophe before the "n." The founding date of Buy Yogurt and the date of its acquisition of Large Industries are both unknown. However, by 2057, as shown on the Buy n Large website, the conglomerate had become a global leader in aerospace, agriculture, construction, consumer goods, corporate grooming, earth transport, electronics, energy, engineering, finance, food services, fusion research, government, hydro-power, infrastructures, inventions, media, medical science, mortgage loans, pet care, pharmaceuticals, psychotherapies, ports and harbors, real estate, repairs, retail, robotics, science and health, space, storage, super centers, super grids, travel services, utilities, and watermills. The corporation's influence extended to other companies as well, with many businesses apparently seeking to be bought out by BnL, such as Headr Inc., which gave BnL control over global news headlines. After BnL took over the government, its logo was added to the flags of countries around the world. Buy n Large continued expanding its control to the point that by 2105, it had over two million wholly owned subsidiaries, governmental bodies, and health care centers. It had become a world leader in every conceivable field, including world leadership itself. Control over world governments was overseen by a global CEO, a position held by Shelby Forthright at the time. A board of directors also approved Operation Cleanup. By granting the entire population of Earth—over 200 billion people, as shown in a newspaper—"the right to spend," humanity entered a state of mass consumerism that covered the planet in unrecycled refuse. By the time of WALL•E, Buy n Large had built the Axiom, an executive starliner, among thousands of others whose names are unknown, as a temporary refuge outside Earth while millions of WALL•E units and a smaller number of massive mobile incinerators attempted to clean the planet. The cruise was originally intended to last only five years, until the BnL CEO declared Earth unable to support life due to extreme toxicity. The Axiom and the other starliners were forced to remain in space under Directive A-113. After Buy n Large officially abandoned Earth in 2110, Shelby Forthright and all other humans supervising the cleanup shut everything down and left. By the time of the story in WALL•E, Buy n Large no longer exists as a functioning corporation. Its presence remains everywhere on Earth, the Axiom, and presumably all the other starliners, but since the death of Shelby Forthright and his generation, it no longer truly exists in a corporate sense. All Buy n Large activity on the Axiom continues exactly as it did 700 years earlier, with the same advertisements, but the corporation is simply running on a defunct, automated cycle maintained by robots. Babies are taught that Buy n Large is their "very best friend," BnL logos appear on everything, and automated announcements about the company still play. The holographic advertisements still urge people to consume and shop, but humans no longer consume since there are no actual products to buy and no money to use. It is unknown whether the humans are aware of what Buy n Large did in history. |

Trivia
- Andrew Stanton, in a commentary on the WALL•E DVD, stated that his inspirations for Buy n Large were large corporations and how some people let consumerism govern how they run their lives. He stated that the people at Pixar had always pictured WALL•E as "a trash compactor" when the idea for the movie was first discussed. He reverse-engineered the idea of why WALL•E was cleaning up the planet and why the Earth was covered in trash, and the idea of what if a company was the government. According to the commentary, one of the artists, Teddy Newton, came up with the term "Buy n Large Corporation." Stanton was intrigued by the term and was able to truncate it to the acronym BnL, which "tripped off the tongue real easily."
- Pixar launched a website for Buy n Large on July 25, 2007, to promote the movie WALL•E. At the time, it was the world's largest and most extensive viral marketing website. The site described WALL•E's universe and offered access to a real store through Zazzle.com where Buy n Large products, mostly apparel, could be purchased online.
- The Buy n Large website, BnL store on Zazzle, BnL World News, and the BnL Disclaimer are no longer online and now simply redirect to the official Disney Movies website. The original Buy n Large website has also been removed, though a video promoting Buy n Large was posted to advertise the site. More recently, the link has allowed full access to the website.
- The website contains various Easter Eggs.
- In Buy n Large's news section, in the "Sound and Fury of Corp. Punk" article, Re-Fi's next tour is called the "Hostile Takeover" tour. This could reference Chick Hicks' main sponsor, Hostile Takeover Bank, from Pixar's Cars.
- In Buy n Large's news section, in the "G8 Now Becoming The Big One" article, the name "The Big One" references the Michael Moore film about huge companies called The Big One. This could also reference the rocket that Sid Phillips mail-orders in Toy Story.
- In Buy n Large's news section, in the "BnL Economics Wins Award" article, "Isotope & Cockroach" were described as being placed in a "colorful, pleasing underwater world." This is probably a reference to Finding Nemo.
- In Buy n Large's news section, in the "4D Film Announced" article, "Pix-Vue" is the name of the movie company, which is also a reference to Pixar's name. Incidentally, Pix-Vue also has its studio in Emeryville, where Pixar is located.
- On the Annual Report 2 ad that appears on Buy n Large's website, Brad Lewis, who was the producer for Ratatouille, is the producer. Woody Gusteau Mandrews is a reference to Toy Story (Sheriff Woody) and Ratatouille (Auguste Gusteau). Mike Sulley as the screenplay writer is a reference to Monsters, Inc. (Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan). "Mandrews" references Mark Andrews, the story supervisor of The Incredibles.
- Buy N Large makes multiple appearances throughout Pixar's media:
- In Rescue Squad Mater, various logos appear in the auxiliary utensils when Lightning McQueen is taken to the hospital.
- In Tokyo Mater, various logos appear in the background advertising "Lugnut in a cup" on the streets of Tokyo.
- In Toy Story 3, various logos appear on Buzz Lightyear's batteries as "BnL Alkaline." This same cameo also appeared in the video game on the level of Bonnie's house.
- In A Day in the Life of John Lasseter, a logo appears on a whiteboard in the Animation Department.
- In Small Fry, a logo appears on a vending machine as "BnL Burst."
- In Toy Story of Terror!, a logo appears in the background advertising "BnL Card Plus" in the door window of the Sleep Well Motel.
- In Cars 3, a logo appears in a racing stadium and in the final credits as "BnL Raceway."
- In Toy Story 4, a logo appears on Bo Peep's car batteries.
- In LEGO The Incredibles, a logo appears in a coffee shop on the streets of Metroville.
- In Logorama, a logo appears as a circular building along with many other logos from different companies. So far, it is the only production that does not belong to either Pixar or Disney in which BnL appears.
- In Elio, a logo appears on the LOREM poster in Elio Solis' bedroom.
