Background
Bypassing/Ignoring is the ability to directly overpower or disregard another being's abilities, physiology, or statistics. Unlike powers that remove or suppress the traits of a target, this ability allows the user to simply ignore or overpower the target's properties at will. The user doesn't negate the target’s abilities, but instead ignores their effects entirely. This power is often linked with abilities like Subjective Reality, where the user can shape or manipulate reality in a way that renders the opponent's abilities irrelevant.
Also Called
- Ability Overpowering
- Stat Ignorance
- Effect Neglect
Possible Applications
- Bypassing: The user can ignore or overpower another user's immortality, allowing them to kill the target despite their immortality. The target’s immortality is not negated, but the user bypasses the ability to deal fatal damage.
- Bypassing: The user can disregard another user’s regenerative ability, rendering any healing attempts ineffective. While the target may still possess regeneration, the user can make it so that the regenerated parts cannot function or are destroyed immediately, like when a regenerated arm turns to dust or crumbles.
- Bypassing: The user can ignore the opponent’s acausality, enabling them to attack and affect them as if they existed within normal causality, even though the opponent exists outside the chain of cause and effect.
- Bypassing: The user can interact with a paradoxical being, ignoring the paradoxical nature of their existence. While the target remains a paradox, the user can still interact with them as though they followed the laws of normal reality.
Practical Uses
- Enables combatants to confront otherwise invulnerable or untouchable beings.
- Allows users to counter abilities that would normally render their opponent invincible or unkillable.
- Can serve as a powerful balancing tool against beings with conceptual or layered defenses.
- Useful for defeating abstract or metaphysical entities without needing to negate their traits.
Types
- Selective Bypassing: The user can choose which abilities or stats to ignore, often on a case-by-case basis depending on their perception or awareness.
- Universal Bypassing: The user ignores all traits, defenses, and statistics by default, affecting any being regardless of their conceptual defenses or powers.
- Conditional Bypassing: The ability to bypass only activates under certain conditions—such as proximity, intent, emotional state, or environmental triggers.
- Skill-Based Bypassing: Requires mastery or deep understanding of the enemy’s power set before it can be bypassed.
Variations
- Reality Enforcement: The user’s view of reality is imposed upon the world, effectively overriding all other effects and forcing things to act in accordance with their rules.
- Existence Overwriting: Instead of ignoring, the user rewrites the target’s attributes on contact, bypassing resistance by forcing new properties.
Possible Limitations
- Energy/Focus Drain: The user may require a significant amount of energy or focus to continuously bypass or ignore powerful abilities or stats.
- Complexity and Mastery: Mastering the ability to bypass certain abilities may require a deep understanding of the opponent’s powers and weaknesses.
- Vulnerable to Countermeasures: Certain powers like Reality Warping or Power Nullification may specifically target or prevent the ability to bypass other abilities.
- Limitations on Scope: The user may only be able to bypass specific abilities or limitations depending on their understanding or mastery over the power.
- May Not Affect Unseen Powers: The user could fail to bypass abilities they are unaware of or cannot perceive, especially if the opponent’s nature is hidden.
