Smoke Manipulation

From The Codex
Jump to navigationJump to search

Background

Smoke Manipulation is the ability to control smoke at will. Users can create, shape, and manipulate smoke, a collection of airborne solid and liquid particulates and gases emitted when a material undergoes combustion or pyrolysis, together with the quantity of air that is entrained or otherwise mixed into the mass. It is commonly an unwanted by-product of fires, with smoke inhalation being the primary cause of death in victims of indoor fires. The smoke kills by a combination of thermal damage, poisoning, and pulmonary irritation caused by carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, and other combustion products.

Also Called

  • Smoke Control
  • Fume Manipulation

Possible Applications

  • Generating thick clouds of smoke to obscure vision.
  • Manipulating smoke to create constructs or tendrils.
  • Using smoke as a suffocating or toxic weapon.
  • Shaping smoke into various forms for deception or intimidation.
  • Combining smoke with fire or heat-based abilities for enhanced effects.

Potential Types

  • Toxic Smoke Manipulation: The user controls highly poisonous or hallucinogenic smoke.
  • Solid Smoke Creation: The user can condense smoke into tangible objects or barriers.
  • Volatile Smoke: Smoke that can be ignited or used to create explosions.
  • Sentient Smoke: The user can create smoke with a will of its own or that follows commands.

Possible Limitations

  • Smoke can be dissipated by strong winds or air manipulation.
  • Certain conditions, such as rain or water-based abilities, may reduce the effectiveness of smoke.
  • Users may be affected by their own smoke if they lack immunity.
  • Requires a source of combustion unless the user can generate smoke naturally.
