Introduction

In regards to this thread, one of Yamcha's wordings needs to be fixed and the tier 9-A for Dragon Ball actually needs to be talked about. Funninly enough, this wasn't even the thread I was planning on making regarding that thread, I just realized I needed to make this after re-reading it while working on the other thread.

Yamcha Rewording

Currently his stats read: "At least Room level (Potency) (Fought evenly with a suppressed Tien Shinhan for a while, who fought 22nd Budokai Son Goku, where he is above his Red Ribbon Army Saga self who defeated General Blue, who tanked his[1] plane crashing into a mountain at full speed[2], then after his training with Korin, it was noted by Korin his power increased "manyfold", making him at least two times stronger than before)"

Now a thing pretty common in Dragon Ball is one should never scale to someone they fought that was at all suppressed, the level of power is completely different. But let us look at the fight.

From what I see here "fought evenly with" is just not accurate, maybe something like "Tien considered him a formidable resistance" while suppressed. I also wouldn't even backscale suppressed Tien to 22nd Budokai Goku, he could not at all fight suppressed against Goku during their fight. I doubly wouldn't backscale suppressed Tien to any version of Goku since a Dragon Ball character being suppressed gives us no information of how strong they were actually fighting, case in point: mr purple cat. We just know he viewed Yamcha as a formidable resistance which is enough to list on Yamcha's profile as him getting stronger.

Dragon Ball 9-A Change

Though another thing is for the current 9-A Dragon Ball characters, I think that 9-A might just flat out need to be removed and turned to 9-B, the current reasoning is: "who tanked his[3] plane crashing into a mountain at full speed[4]", yes the explosion looked big, but not only was the plane still intact and had its pieces, the explosion did the goofy boom so I don't think its size is meant to be taken hyper literal. Take this into account with the fact that this is the total damage Yamcha's kamehameha did and Tien still needed to actually do a deflect technique to stop it. Would just make more sense for the plane crash to be 9-B, it makes sense too since 22nd Budokai Goku needed to kick away the grenade that killed Tao Pai Pai, and he stronger then the version of himself scaling to General Blue. I think one of the main reasons for even having 9-A was because it felt like there should be a jump from 9-B, but an actual feat would need to be found. Tien's biggest thing too with his attack was that it destroyed the arena and he told Goku to dodge it or else it would've killed him. The next big power increase for Goku would just be when he drank the sacred water since he's treated in verse as essentially reaching a completely new level of power that regular training can't give him.

The core feat is based off just randomly guessing a gag made explosion is a certain feat when feats from later on and in the same scene itself display far lower results so yeah, 9-A removal, and Yamcha needs the Tien part reworded since "fought evenly" is not exactly an accurate statement of how the fight went.

If Yamcha needs to be nerfed, I think I agree, because generally speaking, the strongest characters tend to praise the strength or techniques of the weaker ones—like when Frieza praised Krillin in the Namek saga. Therefore, I think a 9-B rating for Yamcha is appropriate, but I’m not sure if we need to remove the 9-A, because if we’re being very strict about that, I don’t see why the “explosion” shouldn’t be used literally when the explosion clearly covers enough ground to be considered a 9-A. Plus, Tao Pai Pai dying from a grenade is kind of silly because, to be fair, I remember Goku withstanding things like bazookas—whether in games or the anime itself—and, well, he was blown away by the explosion, but you get my point, a grenade killing Tao Pai Pai could be a PIS.

The explosion isn't literal because the actual aftermath of the damage shows the plane is relatively intact when a 9-A explosion would've completely evisirated the plane, 9-B crashes normally do far worse damage. On top of this, if the plane is still relatively intact that means Blue never actually took the full brunt of it.

In terms of the bazookas thing, I think that was during the Red Ribbon Siege so that was post-Tao Pai Pai. Also even then, from what I remember of bazookas they still injure Goku which would make no sense if he was 9-A.

Oh I just saw the Colonel Silvers thing, that Bazooka didn't even hit him and it blew him away quite easily which already calls into question 9-A.

I kinda wonder if the plane thing was just Toriyama did not know what a bad plane crash looked like, as a fucked up thing as that is to say looking back on. it's so hard to tell sometimes.

I'm pretty sure the intention of that scene in reality was purely for gags since that was the Dr. Slump crossover episode, so if we go by intention, this wasn't even meant to be something taken uber literally.

Realistically though I think most people would have an idea that explosion bigger then object = object evisirated.
