Background
Lock-On is the ability to lock onto and track a target, with this ability the user can find wherever a target goes, their attacks could be naturally locked onto a target where they will automatically home in on them, they could use this lock on to scan a target and gain information from it, lock onto multiple targets, etcetera. Higher level users of this do not use machinery but their skill alone allows them to naturally be able to lock onto targets and attack their weak points.
Applications
- Targeting: Targeting allows one to cause objects to home in on any target, with this ability one could theoretically hit a target from far distances without even needing to see them.
- Multi-Targeting: While targeting is naturally singular, some users are able to lock onto multiple targets at once. Most popular examples are missile launchers in games where they can lock onto multiple targets and shoot out all at once.
- DNA Targeting: In this case the targeting is done through an attack reading one's DNA and targeting on anyone with the same or similar DNA.
- Scanning: Some lock-ons are done through scanning the target, through this one can learn information about them, whether it be a persons weaknesses, their measurements, their resistances, etcetera.
- Tracking: People with lock on are able to naturally track others, making it harder for one to hide.
- Attack Homing: Similar to targeting, in this case there is no actual lock on system, and instead the attacks naturally lock on to an enemy and will follow them.
Users
- Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic the Hedgehog): Officially appearing first in Sonic 3D Blast as a power up and then becoming a natural part of his arsenal in Sonic Adventure, the homing attack allows Sonic to home into targets through curling into a ball and ramming into the enemy.
- Hat Kid (A Hat in Time): Hat Kid when in the air can shift her momentum to ram into an enemy at high speeds, being able to damage her with attacks that she can't normally do with hand to hand attacks.
