Introduction

Samus needs to regain her stolen powers and travel a galaxy cluster of five galaxies. So, she visits every planet to create a star chart of the supercluster to track down where she must go. This isn't simply crossing the diameter of a galaxy, so we'll need to do some more math than usual to get our result.

Take note, this calculation will assume that Samus has visited a large portion of the cluster before she arrives at Maru, but we won't use the full volume of the galaxy cluster. Read further below to for more explanation.

The Calculation

Math

For starters, we need to get a rough volume of the area Samus would need to cover to map out the cluster. For this reason, we're not going to simply get the volume of each galaxy and call that done. We're going to factor a degree of the space around the galaxies, Since Samus would need to travel to different sections faster without backtracking, thus creating more unnecessary space to travel.

Here is our shape (Length & height) of the cluster that Samus traversed.

And here are the measurements. On the left side (Light Blue), we'll use Area A galaxy as our reference point for our measurements. The average galaxy can differ in diameter between 1,000 - 100,000 parsecs (3,000 - 300,000 lightyears), We're going to use 100000 lightyears since that's the diameter of the Milky Way Galaxy.

This makes Area D (The central galaxy) 228571.429 lightyears in diameter (Orange). Now, for simplicity's sake, we'll be using the volume of an ellipsoid for this (I'm aware that this is not a perfect ellipsoid, I've used a fair number between the inconsistencies). This makes the volume of the total area traversed 2.4821757566554E+54 km3.

Next up, we need to find the volume of Samus' Gunship, as we know it's significantly smaller that a square kilometer. TTHE dimensions of the ship in Metroid Prime Hunters are listed on the official Metroid Prime website. The model of the ship isn't completely one-to-one, but it's close enough.

Using an ellipsoid volume once again gets us a total volume of 71.167997781005m3 (0.071167997781005km3). Now, diving the volume of the cluster by the Gunship's volume gets us 3.4877696e+55km3. We'll divide the volume here by 75% and assume she hadn't covered more than three quarters of the galaxy. That'll make the remaining volume 2.6158272e+55km3.

Now then, lastly, we need a timeframe. I rechecked the scene in the manga, and it's implied that they arrived at Maru in the span of a conversation. For a low-end, we'll use a minute. As a high-end, we'll use twenty seconds.

Results

(2.6158272e+55km)/(60s) = 4.35971E+56 m/s, or 1.4546789954374136e+48c

(2.6158272e+55km)/(20s) = 1.30791E+57 m/s, or 4.364026976387301e+48c
