Introduction

Afterimage Creation is an ability utilized to create afterimages, a visual effect leaving transparent figures appearing almost like apparitions of the user, from the process of acceleration. This technique is widely applied to show just how fast a character is moving in a situation, most notably to puzzle the perception of another combatant of the user's true location due to the brain incorrectly processing those images.

Users

  • Saitama (One-Punch Man): Saitama's speed allows him to create afterimages of himself. He first used this during his training bout with Genos. He was also able to create countless afterimages via his Serious Side Hops during his fight with Speed-o'-Sound Sonic.
  • Son Goku (Dragon Ball): After viewing Master Roshi use it, Son Goku was able to use his patented afterimage technique to fool foes by leaving behind an afterimage for them to attack.
  • Astro Man (Mega Man): When preparing Astro Crush, Astro Man starts moving around so fast he leaves behind afterimages.

Notes

At best, the only speed at which such feats can claim is the Superhuman range. Some people may claim that after-images mean that a character is moving faster than light, but it's both misplaced reasoning and an outlier for many characters.
