This template is used inside reference tags to standardize the format of references.

Parameters

First parameter to the template is the type of citation. There are several types, and further parameters are inserted depending on the type:

  • twitter
  • game
  • youtube
  • tumblr
  • code
  • news

If no parameters are used, the template is displayed as "[citation needed]", and the article is placed in Category:Articles lacking sources.

twitter

This citation type is used when citing Twitter tweets.

Parameters are as follows:

  • Snowflake of the tweet. For example, for https://twitter.com/tobyfox/status/1063270097110949888 the snowflake would be 1063270097110949888.
  • Author of the tweet. For the above example, author would be tobyfox.
  • Contents of the tweet. For the above example, it would be "Original DELTARUNE concept art of the main characters from 2014 or 2015??? The file was just called "THE FUN GANG""
  • Timestamp of the Wayback Machine snapshot of the page. Ideally, all template invocations with this citation type should have one, as authors are known to delete tweets often, rendering references to their tweets on the wiki obsolete. Set to no if you have to insert the next parameter but there is no Wayback Machine snapshot of the page.
  • Set to yes if the tweet has been deleted.

All parameters except the last two are required.

game

This citation type is used for quotations from the media in question. First parameter represents the quotation and the second the author of the quotation and the situation they were in when making the quote. Both parameters are required.

When citing a quote that uses modified game text (i.e. different colors or fonts), use <color>text</color> instead of <span class="color">text</span>. See also Template:Flavortext/doc.

youtube

This citation type is used for referencing YouTube videos. First parameter is the YouTube video ID (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQrPYvfXiPo,) second is the video title (Undertale OST - Mad Mew Mew Extended) and third is the time at which the video should play. First and second parameters are required.

tumblr

This citation type is used when citing Tumblr posts. Parameters are as follows:

All parameters are required.

code

This citation type is used when referencing the game's code. First parameter is the script name, second parameter is the starting line number and third parameter is the ending line number of the lines that are being referred to. Only the first parameter is required.

news

This citation type is used when referencing posts published on news sites. Parameters are as follows:

  • Relevant excerpt from the post.
  • Title of the post.
  • Name of the news site.
  • URL to the post.
  • Date when the post was published.
  • First name of the author.
  • Last name of the author. If omitted, only first name will be displayed.

Last two parameters (author related) are not required.
