Autonomous Body Parts
From The Codex
Background
Autonomous Body Parts is the ability to have parts of one's body that act completely independently without control over them. This ability is typically a sub-ability of Multiple Organisms, but it can also manifest when the user has mechanical body parts that react on instinct, or through other methods that allow body parts to function autonomously.
Also Called
- Autonomous Limbs
- Independent Body Parts
Possible Applications
- Body Separation: Even if a part of the user’s body is severed, the detached body part can still act on its own, potentially defending, attacking, or completing tasks independently.
- Autopilot: These body parts act automatically, performing necessary actions without the user’s conscious control.
- Regeneration: Autonomous body parts can regenerate themselves. Higher-level users may have the ability to allow their cells to act autonomously, enabling rapid self-repair.
- Autonomous Reflexes: Body parts can move in response to stimuli, such as a hand defending against an attack without the user's direct input.
- Independent Tasks: Detached body parts can complete complex tasks like moving objects, or even engaging in combat, without the user’s guidance.
Types
- Mechanical Autonomous Body Parts: Body parts that are mechanical in nature and operate through pre-programmed instincts.
- Biological Autonomous Body Parts: Body parts that operate independently using the user’s own biology or instinctual responses.
- Partial Autonomous Body Parts: Body parts that only partially act independently, requiring some level of external control or influence.
Limitations
- Lack of Coordination: The body parts may act independently but could fail to work in harmony with the user’s intentions, potentially leading to unintended actions.
- Vulnerability: Detached or uncontrolled body parts may be susceptible to manipulation or damage since they are no longer under the user’s full control.
- Energy Drain: Maintaining the independence of body parts might require substantial energy, weakening the user over time.
- Limited Intelligence: These body parts are not sentient and may not make complex decisions, potentially leading to actions that are not aligned with the user’s goals.
- Control Loss: If the user loses control or the body parts malfunction, it can be difficult to regain full control or stop the actions of the detached body parts.
