Introduction

Contact Damage is a term that originated from video games, with enemies damaging a character by just touching them, this does serve as an actual ability outside of just video game mechanics however. One of the most popular invincibility items in video games, the starman, is an example of contact damage as it instantly kills any enemy Mario comes into contact with. Contact Damage is also not only within video games but can be within other media, normally through a character extending their aura to be so powerful it damages all within it.

Applications

Spikes

Due to the sharpness of spikes, characters that have spikes around their body or on their armor can deal damage just by contacting an opponent.

Aura

The aura of an opponent is so powerful it damages people near them or within the range of their aura. Normal cases apply to battle shonen manga where their power systems have characters with extremely high power being able to damage those far below them due to just releasing their power.

Elemental Effects

Contact damage through elemental effects normally extends into Status Effect Inducement.

Power Ups

The most popular example is a video game power-up someone receives that allows them to damage enemies just by contacting them.
