Introduction

So basically, the Gun Devil in Chainsaw Man merely landing in the area created a massive crater in the ground. The goal is to see how much energy this would require.

The Calculation

Building our final Equation

So to start, we're going to use the trees in the area as our reference. The most common trees in Japan's forests are Japanese Cedar and Hinoki Cypress trees (the latter being closer in appearance to what we see in the panel), which can grow up to fifty-to-seventy-five feet tall. We'll be using the latter end, since the tree measured below is a rather tall specimen.

The tree in the panel is 147.72px in height, making the radius of the crater about 46.2709179511 meters in total.

The depth is significantly lower in comparison, only being about 11.9159220142 meters deep. Putting the two together using a spherical cap's volume gives us 40959.992012228m³.

So due to this being a crater with a clear indication of the ground being compressed downwards, compressive strength seems to make sense. For this, we will use a combination of soil and granite rock.

In japan, soil levels are rather low, with forests consisting of a soil level that is a measly sixty centimeters deep. This makes the volume that would actually consist of the granite rock layer now 36924.3061458m³

Finally, according to Science Direct, the compressive strength of granite is about 1204 kg/cm², which translates to 118.0721 MPa/m³. And with that, we can now finally get our final answer.

Final Equation

36924.3061458(m³)*(118.0721(MPa)*100000) = 435973036768 joules, which is equivalent to 104.20005658891 tons of TNT. This is actually lower than I expected.
