Substitution

From The Codex
Jump to navigationJump to search

Background

Substitution is the ability to replace oneself with another object, form, or version of oneself, either temporarily or permanently. This power allows the user to avoid harm, escape from danger, or gain tactical advantages by switching places or altering their physical form. In some cases, the substitution can involve the use of clones, decoys, or any object capable of mimicking the user's presence. It is often used to evade attacks, avoid confrontation, or surprise enemies with unexpected movements or transformations.

Applications

  • Escape Tactics: The user can substitute themselves with another object or clone to avoid an attack or to escape dangerous situations.
  • Decoy Creation: The user can create decoys or clones that mimic their actions or appearance, drawing attention away from the original form.
  • Body Switching: The user can swap bodies with another being or entity, effectively taking control of the new form for a period of time.
  • Combat Advantage: The user can substitute themselves with a more advantageous form (e.g., a stronger version, a hidden form) to gain an edge in battle.

Potential Types

  • Instantaneous Substitution: The user replaces themselves in the blink of an eye, often in response to an immediate threat.
  • Cloning Substitution: The user creates a clone or decoy that mimics their actions or appearance, only to be discarded or destroyed after serving its purpose.
  • Body-Position Substitution: The user swaps their position with another person or object, often to confuse or disorient enemies in combat.

Possible Limitations

  • Dependency on External Objects: The user may need specific items or conditions to perform substitution effectively, such as a special clone or object to switch with.
  • Limited Duration: Substitutions may only last for a short period, requiring the user to return to their original form after a set amount of time.
  • Predictability: If the enemy can predict or learn the user's substitution pattern, it can be countered or nullified.
