Timeless Physiology

From The Codex
Jump to navigationJump to search

Background

Timeless Physiology is a fundamental state of existence wherein a being does not merely resist or ignore temporal effects, but exists entirely outside the framework of time itself. For such beings, time is not a river to be stopped or slowed—it is an irrelevant concept that simply does not apply to their nature. They do not "move within stopped time"; they move because time was never a requirement for their existence or action in the first place.

A being with resistance to time stop can function within frozen time despite the temporal effect, but they still fundamentally operate within a temporal framework—they are simply immune or resistant to its alteration. A being with Timeless Physiology, by contrast, has no relationship with time whatsoever. The standard speed formula (S = D/T) does not apply to them because "T" is not a variable in their existence. They do not require time to pass in order to act, think, or exist.

Beings with this physiology often originate from or reside in realms where time does not exist—primordial voids, timeless dimensions, or states of existence that precede or supersede temporal reality.

Core Nature

The essence of Timeless Physiology lies in what the being does not possess: a relationship with time. Key aspects include:

  • No Temporal Dependence: The being does not require time to think, act, or exist. Causality for them is not a sequence but a singular, undifferentiated state.
  • Non-Applicability of Speed: Standard speed calculations (distance divided by time) are meaningless. The being does not act with time in mind, making conventional comparisons of "speed" incoherent.
  • Outside Causality: The being's actions are not bound by cause and effect as temporal beings understand it. They can act without a prior cause in the temporal sense.
  • No Aging or Decay: The concept of duration does not apply. They do not age, tire, or degrade because these processes require time to operate.

Differences from a Resistance/Immunity

While timeless physiology may just sound like time resistances/immunities, it has its own applications that make it different:

Aspect Timeless Physiology Time Stop Resistance/Immunity
Relationship to Time Exists entirely outside temporal framework Exists within time but is either resistant or immune to its manipulation
Origin Inherent state of being Acquired resistance or immunity
In Timeless Voids Functions normally because that is their native state May function if they have the appropriate resistance or immunity
Speed Formula S = D/T is inapplicable (T=0 is undefined) Operates within stopped time but still abides by the speed formula
Vulnerability Cannot be affected by time manipulation because time doesn't apply Can be affected if resistance is overcome or bypassed

Example Applications

  • Void Movement: As they do not require time, the user can move and act within voids, realms, or dimensions that contain no time whatsoever.
  • Temporal Movement: As they do not require time to act or do actions, manipulation of time will not directly affect them.
  • Resistance/Immunity to Speed Blitz: The user cannot be speed-blitzed in any conventional sense. As characters of this state do not require time to operate, even if a character is far faster then them, they do not process time and thus do not need to follow the standard S = D/T formula, allowing them to keep up with people with far higher reactions then them.
  • Temporal Immunity: Manipulations of time: stopping, slowing, accelerating, reversing, etcetera; simply do not apply to the user.
  • Causality Independence: The user's actions are not bound by temporal causality. They can act without a prior cause, produce effects before their own existence, or exist in states that would be paradoxical for temporal beings.

Possible Applications

  • Existing and moving within primordial voids, timeless dimensions, or the spaces between moments
  • Interacting with temporal reality without becoming subject to its rules
  • Acting simultaneously across multiple points in time because duration has no meaning
  • Perceiving temporal existence as a static whole rather than a flowing sequence
  • Entering stopped time and acting within it
    • Overall temporal immunity by extension in many cases
  • Engaging beings of vastly superior conventional speed on equal footing, as speed comparisons become meaningless

Possible Limitations

  • The user may have difficulty understanding or interacting with temporal concepts like "before," "after," "duration," or "simultaneous".
  • Communication with temporal beings may be challenging due to fundamentally different frameworks of experience.
  • The user may be unable to manipulate time themselves, as they exist outside it.
  • Beings with Acausality that operates on different principles may be able to interact with them.
  • The user is normally still vulnerable to abilities or attacks that are naturally atemporal.

Example Variations

  • Primordial Timelessness: The user originates from the time before time existed: the original void or state preceding creation.
  • Ascended Timelessness: The user was once temporal but transcended to a state beyond time through enlightenment, power, or transformation.
  • Inherent Atemporality: The user's species or kind simply does not experience time as a dimension. They are born, exist, and cease without any relationship to duration.
  • Abstract Timelessness: The user embodies an abstraction that itself has no relationship to time, such as certain mathematical truths, logical absolutes, or primordial ideas.
  • Void-Touched Timelessness: The user has been exposed to or partially merged with a timeless void, gaining aspects of timeless existence.
