User:MrWarnerTheGreat/Kingdom Hearts III - Sköll drops an ice nuke

From The Codex

Introduction

This calculation was originally done here by Bobsican, with slight differences in this version to contrast the original.

Kingdom Hearts III has a boss named Sköll, based on the wolf god, who drops a massive ball of ice on Sora and co. Time to do my thing.

The Calculation

Building our final equation

For starters, we need to find the size of this thing. In the scene, the ice sphere is formed within the clouds, so we'll use the distance between the ground and clouds as our reference.

These were clearly nimbostratus clouds given how dark they were plus it was a winter storm. According to this site, these clouds can sit at around two kilometers to four kilometers high in polar regions. We'll go three kilometers just to be safe (3000m).

This makes the radius of the sphere 1020.83333334 meters, making the total volume 4456081622.6542 meters³.

Now this feat was clearly fragmentation based on the countless shards falling after the feat. For those who read the original calculation which uses pulverization, there are two reasons why fragmentation was used instead. For one, the feat doesn't qualify for what is defined as pulverization (I.e compressive strength).

which is why we're using toughness strength for this calculation, which is more align with what we use these values for in various feats.

According to a Pennsylvania study, ice has a toughness value of about 145.7 kPa meter. In other words, this is 0.1457 j/cm³ (Which actually lines up rather well with most toughness values for solid objects). With that, we now have our final equation set.

4.4560816e+15(cm)*0.1457(j) = 6.4925109e+14 joules, or 155.174734704 kilotons of TNT, which is Town level. I expected as much for what is essentially a town-sized attack.

Conclusion

6.4925109e+14 joules (155.174734704 kilotons of TNT): Town level (7-C)
