Testing my hand at this for Shar. Let's see what I get.

Formula: W = R^3*((27136*P+8649)^(1/2)/13568-93/13568)^2

W is the yield in tons in TNT, R is the radius in meters, P is the shockwave pressure in bars.

A time bomb goes off in a forest, causing a massive explosion that decimates the trees around it. In order to calculate the size of the explosion, I can look at the tree far-off in the distance, which has a white silhouette. This tree appears to be right next to the explosion itself, so I can use it to gauge the explosion's diameter.

First I need to determine what kind of tree it appears to be. Forests with skinny, needled trees such as these are quite common, so this is very likely a pine tree. Likely a loneleaf pine tree in particular, those are usually quite thin and don't have branching or sprouts until the very top of the tree.

The diameter of these kinds of trees is usually around 0.7 meters, so I'm going to use that to gauge.

The diameter of the explosion comes out to 18.9 meters, around 27x the diameter of the tree. It is quite deceptive on what is the explosion and what is just dramatic speed lines and smoke, but the best way to determine what was actually the blast itself was by looking at the trees. The white tree in the back (the one we used for measurements) fades out around its base where the actual explosion is, and so we know where the explosion diameter starts and finishes.

Since we found the diameter of the explosion, all we need to do is halve it and we get the radius. Half of 18.9 is 9.45

R = 9.45 meters

All we really need to calculate now would be P, the shockwave pressure. The standard amount used for all calcs is 1.37895 bars or 20 psi.

P = 1.37895 bars

Now to just plug these into the original formula and get the answer we're looking for.

W = 9.45^3*((27136*1.37895+8649)^(1/2)/13568-93/13568)^2

W = 0.068 tons

0.068 tons = Small Building level (Low 8-C)
