Interlude

Cue theme Jet: Magic users… beings of the power of mystical, supernatural powers.

Launch: People able to completely destroy you without even having to touch you.

Jet: While some magic users use their powers for knowledge and peace, others use it for darker reasons!

Launch: Until they’re beaten by the shounen hero and are eventually recruited to their team. They also wear cool capes.

Jet: Would Crono even be a Shounen hero… nevermind, like Magus from Chrono Trigger!

Launch: And Piccolo from Dragon Ball.

Jet: I’m Jet and he’s Launch, and it’s time to see who would win!

Magus

(Cue theme) Launch: Jet, why does this mage look emo? And what kind of name is Magus? That can’t be his real name…

Jet: Technically Launch, you’re correct. His real name is Janus, the prince of Zeal in the year 12,000 BC.

Launch: Janus? What kind of name is Janus? Did his mother hate him or something?

Jet: Technically... Zeal wasn’t exactly the mom of the year, growing up in The Kingdom of Zeal, Janus was an introverted child with his only real friends being his older sister Schala and his pet Alfador.

Launch: With how gloomy he looked, can’t blame most kids, he looks like the anime villain.

Jet: Well, it was probably that and that one of the first things he seems to do when talk to people is anti-socially describing to them that they will die and walk away.

Launch: Geeez, someone teach this kid basic social etiquette.

Jet: Irregardless, Janus in the original timeline, not the one messed up by Crono and co. would travel with Schala to the Ocean Palace where Lavos would wake up and open a portal in time separating everyone and having Janus end up in the year 1000 AD.

Launch: Here Janus would run into a green-ogre like guy named Ozzy, who would show him the ways of peace, tranquility, good and- PFFFFFT HAHAHAHAHA, I couldn’t even finish that with a straight face, nah he just showed Janus how to murder.

Jet: Which Janus wasn’t against doing, as he realized he needed power in order to confront Lavos again and defeat him, no matter the cost. By that point he just changed his name to Magus.

Launch: Now that’s a badass name.

Jet: Didn’t you just say earlier what kind of name that wa- whatever. Magus is a powerful wizard of the Shadow element. He is also such a powerful wizard that Spekkio, the God of War, even notes Magus could teach him a thing or two.

Launch: With his mastery of magic he can use all elemental spells too, light, fire, water, and shadow, all the strongest variations of each too.

Jet: Though his main powers revolve around shadow magic. With it he can use Dark Bomb which is a dark aura that bombs all enemies within the radius.

Launch: Barrier, a technique that allows him to boost his magical defenses.

Jet: Dark Mist, a technique that attacks all enemies with darkness.

Launch: Black Hole, which creates a literal black hole that banishes all enemies. What did I say, this man is a badass!

Jet: And his strongest attack, Dark Matter, which allows him to create a triangular-like object that attacks all enemies with darkness, dealing massive damage!

Launch: It’s safe to say he has a large arsenal of magic, but he’s not only a magic user but can also attack physically, using his scythe as his primary weapon. Mind you Magus is pretty fricken tough, tanking hits from Lavos and being able to harm him.

Jet: Lavos was capable of sending blasts across all of the world with his rains of destruction and caused the fall of the Kingdom of Zeal. Him doing this mind you turned the sky black, indicating atmosphere destruction, which ranges from 10^26 joules to 10^29 joules depending on the type of atmosphere destruction.

Launch: That is 26 to 29 zeroes whoa…

Jet: Keep in mind the Tsar Bomb, which is like 50 megatons.

Launch: Well he is the guy who ended up basically ruining the world and making a desolate future so not surprising.

Jet: Magus is also very swift being capable of keeping up with Lavos who traveled through space to Earth in a short timeframe. As Lavos is shown to be at a distant star we can assume an Earth-Alpha Centauri distance, which is 4.367 lightyears, he flies to Earth in around 19 seconds this would be 7,253,110 times faster than the speed of light. Remember that Magus can fight with him.

Launch: So Magus is a strong, fast, and powerful magic wielder, he’s basically unstoppable! Hell, you can’t even really harm him with magic since he can absorb magic. He also wears Schala’s Pendant, a Pendant that literally makes him immune to any status effect, this includes the usual poison, sleep, blind, stop, slow, lock, sap, chaos, and berserk.

Jet: Well Launch, he’s not completely unstoppable. You see Magus has an innate weakness to the light element as he’s the shadow element, along with that legendary swords such as the masamune are able to drop his defense making him more susceptible to physical attacks.

Launch: Well does the light element weakness even matter when he puts up a barrier that allows him to absorb all light magic?

Jet: Guess not… At the end of the day Magus joined Crono's team and defeated Lavos, and eventually somewhat reunited with his sister Schala, even if it was a twisted evil version of her. Depending on the timeline he even travels with her reborn self, Kid. Ignoring of course the timelines where he’s killed, defeated by Lavos, killed by Frog after he beats Lavos, etcetera.

Launch: Overall, Magus is a badass wizard and you don’t want to mess with him.

“	If history is to change, let it change! If the world is to be destroyed, so be it! If my fate is to be destroyed, I must simply laugh!	„

Piccolo

(Cue theme) Launch: Have you ever had a dad who was a completely evil prick that after his death he specifically made you purely to get revenge on the man who killed him? Yeah, that’s Piccolo.

Jet: Piccolo is a Namekian of the warrior clan born from King Piccolo’s egg harvesting dark thoughts and emotions towards Son Goku who killed his father. His eventual plan was to rule the world! Launch: That was until Goku defeated him in the 23rd budokai, years later a far more powerful enemy than both him and Goku appears and he steals Goku’s kid and Piccolo kidnaps the kid and the kid undergoes Stockholm syndrome-

Jet: Wait what?

Launch: Undergoes a bonding period with his green alien friend.

Jet: This essentially humanizes Piccolo, making him even sacrifice his life for the kid. With that, an end to his story in Dragon Ball.

Launch: Until he’s brought back to life during the Frieza saga and is just kinda a member of the team now... Yeah this show doesn't have any real perma deaths asides from some villains maybe and Android 16.

Jet: Piccolo is a wielder of magic, unlike the rest of the z fighters.

Launch: Yeah despite the fact that he barely ever does anything with it he has shown some pretty cool abilities with it, such as his beam that allows him to materialize clothes onto one.

Jet: He can stretch out his arms to attack an opponent, shoot out eye beams, shoot out standardized ki blasts.

Launch: Oh right, we probably need to go over what ki is Jet. Don’t worry I can explain this rather easily. Ki is the life force energy used by everyone in DBZ, it’s basically what allows them to do stupid big explosions and fight super strong.

Jet: With this Piccolo’s abilities extend even further with his energy shots, but he can concentrate to use abilities such as the fabled special beam cannon! This is a drill-like beam that is stronger than his normal self, being capable of one-shotting opponents far above him like Raditz!

Launch: There is also Hellzone Grenade where Piccolo shoots out energy blasts everywhere, making the opponent think he’s missing but he is actually situating a bunch of energy beams in the air to slam all at the opponent at once.

Jet: Though there is his strongest attack, the light grenade!

Launch: Wait, it’s not hellzone grenade?

Jet: Wha- no! Why would it be that? He uses that attack before he uses light grenade!

Launch: But… Budokai Tenkaichi games had the hellzone grenade as his special.

Jet: ...And then raging blast fixed that and put it as light grenade.

Launch: Are you telling me I was lied too?!

Jet: Anyways, this attack is a charged energy sphere to shoot out and deal a massive amount of damage, it even took out half an island after hitting Cell! Piccolo can level it up to be the super guided light grenade which follows it’s target.

Launch: Just look at the side of the small island that was hit by this attack, jesus, it’s completely wiped out!

Jet: Along with this Piccolo has the essential needed skill of regeneration. With it Piccolo is able to regenerate any lost body parts so long as his head stays intact.

Launch: Wait then how did he die to Nappa here? I can see his head and everything intact.

Jet: Well, his regeneration is heavily stamina-based, if he doesn’t have enough stamina to regenerate, fatal wounds will just, kill him. Along with this, Piccolo’s brain being destroyed will also stop his regeneration completely.

Launch: After all was said and done for Piccolo at the end of the day he remained as a fighter with the other Z-fighters, trying to stop whatever evil comes their way.

Jet: Piccolo essentially found a family despite being what he thought was the pure incarnation of evil.

“	My greatest opponent is myself. If I can discover what my weaknesses are, then I will be an even stronger fighter than I already am.	„

Death Battle

We find Piccolo busy with Trunks in his time machine.

“So what’s the reason you dragged me here, Trunks?” Piccolo said with his arms crossed looking annoyed.

“My mom picked up from her time machine a large scale of temporal anomalies. I wanted dad or Goku but they’re still out training with Beerus and Whis.”

“Why did you not just bring Gohan then?”

“I’ve witnessed Gohan myself first hand, he gets too overconfident, and he’s willing to risk too much without thinking… I’ve already seen how that ended.” The room stays quiet as Piccolo closes his eyes.

“Very well then. I don’t know how much help I will be, but what is this temporal anomaly?” Trunks gives off a light smile in response to Piccolo’s question.

“I don’t understand it much myself. It seems to have never touched any of our timelines, it’s a being known as “Lavos” according to data research. The thing itself is extremely powerful and honestly, I don’t think any of us could stop it. This things plan is apparently to destroy all of space-time returning it to nothingness, and honestly, it’s so powerful, I don’t believe any of us could stop it. Though there is another way to stop it without fighting it directly, you see it’s apparently noted that this man named ‘Magus’ created Lavos.”

“So we go to this ‘Magus’ and stop him from creating Lavos, in the process stopping Lavos entirely is what you’re getting at, correct?”

“Yes, but this Magus is a powerful evil mage. He has taken many lives. I wouldn’t be surprised if a simple talk won’t sway him.”

“Talk is cheap. I’ll put an end to him.” Trunks nods.

“Alright, I’ll be taking you to another world in the year ‘600 A.D.’ This universes’ rules of time work strangely differently than any other, with rumors that if many people try to travel through time together they get sent to a fabled ‘End of Time’. To be safe it’d be best if you go alone. I’ll send you to his exact coordinates, in his castle. Be careful, he’s very powerful.”

“Hmmph.” Piccolo simply said in response. Ready to go.

Piccolo was transported into a castle, around him were a weird green goblin, a cross-dressing male, and a swordsman.

“Are any of you Magus?” Piccolo simply said with his arms crossed.

“What business would you have with Lord Magus? I’m Ozzie, one of Magus’ three generals!”

“I’m Flea, the powerful and beautiful magician!”

“I am Slash, the swordsman of Lord Magus. I will fight to the death fighting in his honor.” Piccolo looks at all three of them and simply smirks.

“If this is the best he has for henchman then he must be no threat himself.”

“W-what did you say?!” Ozzie said, snarling. “I’ll show you what a threat we are!” Ozzie attempts to punch Piccolo but Piccolo stands there, unflinched. “W-what are-” before he could finish Piccolo blasts him, completely vaporizing Ozzie.

“Was that really it? I wasn’t expecting to kill him with that.” Both Slash and Flea look on in fear. “Do you want to end up like him? Then I suggest you run.”

“I-I will not falter, in the name of beauty you shall die!” Flea says with grace as Slash pulls out his sword attempting to attack Piccolo. Piccolo retaliates with a simple energy blast completely vaporizing them too. “Well, if this is the extent of his henchman then I wonder if Magus himself will be any real threat.”

Piccolo proceeds down a long linear hallway. He enters the room at the end where flames appear with each step he takes. In the far dark distance of the room he can hear some chant, “Dal zumal phara-lo lierra… Cast open the gates that betwixt heaven and earth… In exchange for the life of this world…”

“Are you Magus?” Piccolo interrupts his speech.

“That is my name. I have heard from the black winds that your name is Piccolo.”

“The black winds?”

“It is not something you can hear, only those with a truly trained ear can hear their howls. The winds howled to me, foretelling me of this encounter. Ozzie and them are dead, aren’t they? No matter, they were mere fools at the end of the day, bickering about power between fiends and humans, I care for neither, only my revenge.”

“Enough of this useless talk. I am here to put a stop to you before you create ‘Lavos’.” Magus raises an eyebrow to Piccolo’s claim.

“Create? You fool, I but merely summon him. Once I have summoned him I will finish him for good.”

“What?!” Piccolo was surprised to hear this. Though he immediately regained his composure. “It doesn't matter anyways, summoning or creating you bringing him here causes a lot of trouble. It’s obvious you won’t listen to reason so I must stop you here and now.” Magus simply silently turned around letting his cape flow.

“Again, the bitter black wind begins to howl… Very well.” Magus then turns around. “Come, if it is death you seek!”

Fight

Piccolo attempts to blast Magus but the blast is absorbed into him.

“What?!”

“Your mere light element will do nothing to me.” Magus then casts a large fire blast across the entire area, though Piccolo blocks quickly. Damn, he seems to be able to absorb energy like Super 17 did.

Piccolo releases himself from the block and attempts to rush and punch Magus with Magus swiftly blocking with his scythe. Magus then cuts off his arm and shoots out powerful ice magic causing giant icicles to fall from the sky, with the icicles causing a huge blast. Did that finish him? Magus wonders.

The dust settles and Piccolo is seen floating across from Magus.

“You are stronger than I thought, after dealing with your henchman I thought I’d be able to defeat you with no sweat.”

“They were a mere stepping stone to reaching my true goals. It is over now, you cannot even land a hit on me and your arm is gone.”

“I suppose that calls it for warm ups?”

“Warm ups?” Piccolo smirked at Magus' question.

“Did you think this was the real battle? I was merely checking to see what you’re capable of. Now…” Piccolo proceeds to take off his clothes, Magus notices how much they weigh as they drop to the ground. Afterwards he powers up, regrowing his arm. “HUAAAH!”

“Weighted armor? Regenerative body? I see.” Magus simply replies. “Alright then, let’s see how serious you actually are. I’ll put an end to this and then put an end to Lavos once and for all.”

Piccolo rushes now faster then before and hits Magus across the face.

‘UNH” Magus responds as his head rocks back, though Piccolo does not stop as he hits Magus up into the air and hits him with a flurry of punches while he’s up there, he then slams him back onto the ground.

“Hmmph, is that all you got?” Piccolo said with both of his arms crossed. “I guess I overestimated you.”

“You seem to be mistaken.” Piccolo was shocked to hear Magus’ voice. As the dust clears he sees Magus standing there without a single scratch on him. “I let you attack me as you proclaimed you were getting serious. Even then I see nothing of worth here.”

This is impossible! Piccolo thought to himself. I hit him with everything I have there and he doesn’t even seem winded. I didn’t want to have to do this but it seems like my only choice. Piccolo then proceeded to put two hands on his forehead.

“What is he doing now?” Magus questioned aloud.

“Don’t worry ‘Lord Magus’ I will show you what worth I have! HAAAAAAAAAA!” Piccolo began charging up a large amount of energy. “Special beaaaaam CANNONNNNNNN!” Piccolo shoots it at Magus. What is this? This power and speed! The blast envelopes around the field causing a massive explosion destroy the castle completely.

“Ha… haa…” Piccolo breathes heavily, he pulls out a senzu bean from his pocket. “It’s a good thing Trunks gave me one of these. I was not expecting to need that much energy. With this, the future has been saved.” Piccolo looks at the destroyed castle and is about to fly away before he hears debris kicked up. “N-No way! Impossible.” Piccolo turns back around to see Magus standing on the ground perfectly fine. ”Did he absorb the special beam cannon?” Magus brushes the dust off of his shirt.

“Listen carefully creature and listen well. I grow tired of this back and forth. My ‘henchmen’ are not even that. We merely struck a deal that I would let them live in exchange for letting them stay in the manor while I attempt to summon Lavos. I have already defeated them in the past, their deaths mean nothing to me. Though I have in some way been shown the value of life by a foolish boy and his group of friends who I allied with in the defeat of Lavos. When we finally defeated Lavos, I set off on my journey to find Schala, through this I found out that Lavos was still alive and far more powerful than ever before. I fought side by side with my allies and in the end we barely escaped with our lives, if it wasn’t for Schala. I have grown far more powerful now to stop this new Lavos and save Schala. You will not get in the way of my journey, today I will end Lavos once and for all!” Magus' resolve causes his cape to fly momentarily.

“Hmph, a selfish resolve, allowing the possible end of all just at a chance of getting your own goal. You remind me of myself in a way.” Piccolo slowly descends to the ground. “It is clear you are extremely powerful, my techniques haven’t even harmed you. Therefore there is one last technique I must use.” Piccolo then creates a jar and places it on the floor. He powers up greatly putting both of his hands out.

“What pitiful light show are you doing for me this time?” Magus simply replies.

“This is an ancient technique that ignores one’s power and seals them into the containment of the person's choosing.” Piccolo smirks. “Now begone! Evil containment wave!”

“What is this?! I can feel myself being pulled!” Magus is pulled into the wave pulling him into the jar Piccolo made, fully trapping him in. Piccolo then sighs in relief.

“No matter how powerful you are, you cannot escape that. Trust me, I know from experience.” Piccolo begins to fly away when he notices the jar shaking. “What? There is no way. The user is sealed, they cannot escape the ja-” before he could finish the jar fully cracks open with Magus transforming back into his corporeal self.

“Was this truly the extent of your magic? Pitiful.” Piccolo stood there in the air completely shocked, Nothing I used on him worked, I have only one other plan. Damn it, I’ll just have to use my most powerful attack. Piccolo then proceeds to slowly charge another light beam. “Another one of these? I think it’s time to show you what true magic is.” If he plans to do a beam clash he has another thing coming, my light grenade will travel through his beam hitting him. While he’s using his magic this will be him at his most vulnerable. I’ll have to put everything into this attack or I’m done for. Magus then quietly said, “Black hole.” A black hole enveloped around Piccolo.

“What is this? I’ve never seen magic like this!”

“Were you expecting me to shoot my strongest blast back at you? You’re not even worthy of me using dark matter, I will cast you into the void to show you have frail your evil containment wave truly was.” Piccolo slowly gets pulled in unable to move. N-No! I have to find a way! Wait, if I hit him with my attack, the effect will possibly cancel, this is the only choice I have. With his attack fully charged he screams at the top of his lungs, “Light grenade!” The blast comes hurling at Magus who responds quickly, “Dark Matter.” A large energy of dark matter completely engulfs the field, absorbing the light grenade entirely.

“No! That was my most powerful attack! How? How are your abilities this powerful?”

“I now see your folly creature. You were once one who used the darkness to your advantage using the black spells of old. Then you were shown the light, like I was. However there is one difference between me and you. When the darkness came back, I conquered it, and you simply cowered in fear. Goodbye.” Piccolo is almost fully pulled into the black hole, before Magus closes his eyes and stops it. Piccolo gets up slowly, surprised that he is still alive.

"Though it appears I have become more of a coward myself hanging around those fools." Magus simply said. "Enough, leave. You have seen my power and I have faced Lavos once before, I will defeat him."

"Hmph, I can't leave until this "Lavos" being is dealth with, though instead of wasting our energy on each other... I suggest we team up."

"I see, then hurry and heal yourself, as I will now begin the summoning."

"Here goes nothing..."

Magus turns around and proceeds to continue his cantation.

Results

Launch: Wow Piccolo was just kinda stooped that entire battle, wasn’t he?

Jet: While Piccolo is extremely powerful and fast in his own right, Magus just trumps him in every other way. Let’s go over Piccolo’s one major thing that Magus has that makes the fight virtually unwinnable for him, his ki.

Launch: Magus can absorb light element attacks in Chrono which are one of the four elements that make up the entire universe, light element or the sky element in official translation, ranges from lightning attacks, to beams of energy constructed from the users thoughts, and the life energy around them, sound familiar to anything we know?

(Addendum: Ki has been further confirmed to be light energy in works such as Dragon Ball Daima as Degisu seeing ki blasts referred to them as "firing light from their hands")

Jet: Magus mind you can completely absorb light energy thus rendering Piccolo’s ki beams completely useless.

(Addendum: Piccolo does have some non-ki-based attacks he can use, however none of them prove as useful as his ki attacks)

Launch: Though Jet, what about some of Piccolo's other stuff, like blowing up the moon or fighting characters that can destroy planets? Hell, his strongest charged blast should be capable of this too, so how would Magus survive this?

Jet: Well, Magus DID fight the Dream Devourer.

Launch: Yeah but didn’t Magus lose to the Dream Devourer?

Jet: While he did he was still capable of harming it and could withstand its attacks of devouring dreams from another dimension, which in the context of Chronoverse are alternate universes. Meaning Magus is literally withstanding an attack destroying alternate universes.

Launch: Ok but what about Magus breaking out of the mafuba seal?

Jet: Oh well that part’s easy, Serge via sheer strength can break through seals and Magus is far above him in strength and magic.

Launch: Yeah Magus had every advantage while Piccolo basically had none.

Jet: The winner is, Magus!
