You only have one shot.
~ OneShot's theme

Much of the in-depth explanations for the overall series are explained from the OneShot Wiki.

Background

OneShot is a game developed in a modified version of RPG Maker 2003 by Eliza Velasquez and Nightmargin, released on June 30th, 2014. You play the role of a god who must guide the protagonist, Niko, through a strange world inhabited by robots, with the ultimate goal of saving the world and returning Niko home.

A being known as the Entity will break the fourth wall in multiple ways, from opening error messages addressing the player's name to changing their desktop background. If you manually close the game's window or quit the game and relaunch afterwards, you are told that Niko is dead and that you killed them which will end the game, hence the title "OneShot". In the remake, closing the game manually instead saves the game, and refraining from doing so through the entire playthrough earns you the achievement "Oneshot", a reference to the original version.

Saving the game is done by resting at the beds that are found in the game's world. Going to bed closes the game automatically, and upon opening the game, you are greeted by a dream sequence that entails how Niko used to live before being mysteriously brought to this world.

The game was made in a month for the 2014 Indie Game Maker Contest, and was remade and extended by the original team with the addition of GIRakaCHEEZER in 2016 in RPG Maker XP and published by Degica. The features added include the ability to save the game by closing the window, additional playthroughs, and more permanent consequences.

On OneShot's 5th Anniversary, Nightmargin tweeted with a short video showcasing a console port for the game (a Japanese mirror tweet was made as well) announcing its release. Some teasers during the port's development were posted by GIR prior to the anniversary. On September 22, 2022, the game was released on consoles under the name of OneShot: World Machine Edition on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

Power of the Verse

OneShot is an extremely powerful series. While the its protagonist, Niko, is Below Average Human level physically, they innately can affect the entire universe and well beyond using The Sun. Niko naturally possesses abilities such as Fate Protection, Acausality, Reality Warping, Immortality, Regeneration, Divine Protection and more. The series becomes more powerful when taking its entities into account. The World Machine reaches into Low Multiverse level from its existence of being OneShot itself and its parallel realities. They themself have various abilities, such as Fate Manipulation, Sealing, BFR, Cosmic Awareness, Death Manipulation, Conceptual Manipulation, and more. Its most powerful characters are The Author, who reaches Hyper Multiverse level from transcending its The World Machine and being unaffected by its power. The god tier of OneShot is the god itself, User. On top of being at a Low Complex Multiverse level and possessing the previously mentioned abilities, they additionally have Existence Erasure, Power Nullification, Omnipresence, Causality Manipulation, Plot Manipulation, Memory Manipulation, Regeneration Negation, and more. The top three characters also reach at Extra-Temporal speeds.

Verse Scaling

The series generally doesn't follow scaling as its not the intent of the series. Each character individually scale to themselves, with only its top tiers transcending each other.
