Introduction

A One-Shot is referring to defeating an opponent in a single attack.

For a hypothetical scenario, imagine two people fought. In a normal fight, the two sides would be able to trade blows with each other. However in a scenario where the one of the fighters can one-shot, the fighter can instantly incapacitate or kill the opponent in a single blow.

For a situation like this to happen, the person's Attack Potency should be significantly above the other side's Durability. A one-shot's gap is hard to determine as it varies from verse to verse. There also comes into play that both fighters could very well not be in the same tier, one could be Solar System in attack potency while the other has Star level durability.

It should also be noted that a fighter can hold back when they're capable of one-shotting their opponent. This can be due to them wanting to prolong the battle to have more fun, not want to seriously hurt the other party, to torture their opponent more or simply Plot-Induced Stupidity may come into play.

A common misconception about one-shots is that the fighter that can one-shot their opponent is vastly superior to their opponent in all physical categories, with higher tier, attack potency, striking strength, and durability. Though this is not always the case, the fighter could be using weapons such as a gun that could one-shot regular humans. Most times a one-shot only refers to the fact that a person can physically defeat someone in a single blow, nothing about having superior abilities or being faster for example.

One-shots in versus threads

Normally in a versus thread in a situation where one is hit in the torso region, one would need an AP gap of 7.5x in order to one-shot.

Some important points to consider regarding this guideline are listed below:

  • The gap of 7.5x is based on the difference between the baseline street level value and the baseline human level value (300/40 = 7.5), with the former being commonly accepted as capable of one-shotting the latter in the right circumstances.
  • This value is only an approximation and for a specific scenario of hitting a humanoid figure in the torso, and the actual gap can be higher or lower depending on certain factors.
  • A character can be one-shot without a significant advantage in strength if one targets their weakpoints.
  • This only applies in our versus threads as the one-shot gap for regular verses varies greatly. Do not use the one-shot value to try and argue your character having an extremely inflated scaling chain.
