Charged Attack
From The Codex
Jump to navigationJump to search
Background
Charged Attacks is a combat technique that involves gathering energy, force, or momentum before unleashing a more powerful strike than a normal attack. This technique is commonly seen across various forms of media, from video games to manga and anime. Characters using charged attacks typically hold or prepare an attack for a brief period, storing energy to release a more potent blow upon execution.
Also Called
- Power Charge
- Power-Up Strike
- Energy Accumulation Attack
- Amplified Strike
Possible Applications
- Delivering significantly stronger attacks than normal strikes.
- Breaking through defenses or barriers that would resist standard attacks.
- Overwhelming multiple targets with a single, concentrated strike.
- Utilizing the built-up energy to add elemental or energy-based effects to an attack.
Practical Uses
- Overcoming tough enemies or bosses by unleashing maximum damage in a single blow.
- Creating openings in an opponent's defense due to the sudden increase in power.
- Enhancing combat versatility, as charged attacks can often be used at range or close-quarters.
- Amplifying the effect of a weapon or ability by using the stored power for a more devastating result.
Variations
- Basic Charged Attack: A simple power-up of a regular attack by holding a button or pausing briefly before striking.
- Elemental Charged Attack: Incorporates elemental energy (fire, lightning, ice, etc.) into the charged strike.
- Area-of-Effect Charged Attack: A charged strike that impacts a wide area or multiple enemies at once.
- Multi-Stage Charge: Allows the user to charge the attack in phases, with increasing power and effects for longer charges.
- Projectile Charged Attack: Charges and releases an energy projectile or ranged blast instead of a melee strike.
- Combo Charged Attack: A charged strike that can chain into additional attacks or combos after release.
- Overcharge Attack: A highly powerful charged attack that risks backlash or exhaustion if overused or held too long.
- Explosive Charged Attack: Releases an explosion on impact or at the end of the charge, causing area damage.
- Defensive Charged Attack: Charges power to deliver a counterattack or break through enemy defenses.
- Morphing Charged Attack: Changes form or properties based on charge duration or user's input (e.g., size, element, shape).
- Self-Buff Charged Attack: Charges to enhance not only the attack but also temporarily boosts the user’s stats during or after the attack.
Possible Limitations
- Charging time may leave the user vulnerable to counterattacks.
- May require stamina, energy, or focus to execute, leading to exhaustion after repeated use.
- Some targets may have defenses or abilities that negate or diminish the effects of charged attacks.
- If interrupted, the charge may be canceled or wasted, reducing its effectiveness.
- Users without sufficient strength or control may injure themselves during the charging process.
Users
- Ki Users (Dragon Ball): Ki users can charge and focus their ki into a single focal point for a much more powerful attack then they can use normally.
- Mega Man (Mega Man): Mega Man can charge his mega buster to shoot out a powerful charged shot.
