Impossible Evasion

From The Codex
Jump to navigationJump to search

Background

Impossible Evasion is the extraordinary ability to avoid, sidestep, or otherwise evade attacks, hazards, and effects that are normally considered completely unavoidable. This extends far beyond ordinary agility, reaction time, or skill, and often requires supernatural, reality-bending, or causality-defying means to achieve. It allows the user to escape from situations where conventional logic dictates no survival or avoidance is possible — such as dodging an attack that engulfs an entire universe, sidestepping an omnidirectional blast, or avoiding an effect that instantaneously erases all matter in existence.

This form of evasion often manifests through methods like phasing into another reality, slipping into a higher-dimensional space, removing oneself from the flow of causality, or altering the rules of reality so that the attack never truly connects. Because of its extreme nature, Impossible Evasion is often linked to high-level powers such as time manipulation, spatial control, conceptual manipulation, or plot-centric abilities.

This could even allow one to avoid abilities such as Undodgeable Attacks.

Also Called

  • Absolute Evasion
  • Unavoidable Dodge
  • Inescapable Avoidance
  • Perfect Escape
  • Inevitability Negation

Possible Applications

  • Dodge omnidirectional, full-scale attacks regardless of their speed or coverage.
  • Escape from attacks that affect all of space-time, including entire universes or timelines.
  • Avoid causality-based or fate-based attacks that are designed to hit with 100% certainty.
  • Sidestep conceptual or metaphysical effects such as “instant death” or “absolute hit” abilities.
  • Evade omnipresent forces like reality collapse, existence erasure, or total spatial compression.
  • Move or shift to a state, realm, or dimension where the attack’s effects do not apply.

Practical Uses

  • Allows survival against enemies vastly superior in scale and reach.
  • Enables the user to remain a threat even against reality-warpers, cosmic entities, or narrative-level powers.
  • Functions as a last-resort escape in otherwise hopeless situations.
  • Can be used to create psychological advantages by making the user appear untouchable or immune to fate.
  • May be strategically combined with counterattacks, allowing the user to evade and retaliate simultaneously.

Variations

  • Dimensional Evasion: Avoiding attacks by leaving the current dimension or reality.
  • Causality Escape: Altering cause-and-effect so that the attack’s hit condition never occurs.
  • Fate Defiance: Ignoring or overriding predestined outcomes that guarantee a hit.
  • Temporal Evasion: Manipulating or stepping outside of time to avoid the moment of impact entirely.
  • Conceptual Avoidance: Nullifying the very idea of inevitability, ensuring that no attack can truly be unavoidable.

Possible Limitations

  • May require immense energy or mental focus to perform consistently.
  • Could be limited by cooldowns, specific conditions, or the user’s awareness of the attack.
  • Attacks that occur outside all possible spaces, times, and states of being may still land if the user has no accessible escape vector.
  • Powers that explicitly prevent dimensional shifting, causality alteration, or higher-dimensional movement can block this evasion.
  • Characters without sufficient reaction time or perception might be unable to trigger the ability before the attack connects.
  • If tied to external forces (e.g., equipment or divine protection), the loss of that source can remove the ability.
