Impossible Permutation

Background
Impossible Permutation is the ability to reject or override the structure of reality by denying specific possibilities and enabling the existence of impossible or improbable outcomes. Users of this ability can contradict causality, probability, or fate, manifesting results that should not occur in any conceivable timeline.
This power allows the user to persist in or generate outcomes that are considered paradoxical or outright impossible by the rules of the universe. Whether by sheer will, metaphysical anomaly, or narrative significance, these individuals enforce their success or survival in defiance of all logical predictions.
Impossible Permutation is often treated as a sub-type of Space-Time Manipulation, since it can involve disqualifying or rewriting potential timelines and enforcing impossible events across spacetime. It is thematically linked with probability and conceptual manipulation, but distinct in that it centers around the denial or invalidation of possible outcomes.
Also Called
- Impossibility Imposition
- Timeline Disqualification
- Outcome Rejection
- Antilogical Persistence
Possible Applications
- Eliminate specific outcomes or timelines from ever occurring.
- Exist within and enforce timelines that should be statistically or conceptually impossible.
- Ignore predetermined fate, probability, or logical causality.
- Force improbable events to occur as though they were certain.
- Undo or prevent any timeline where a specific event happens, retroactively or preemptively.
- Persist or act in a universe that should logically reject the user’s presence or outcome.
- Paradox Resistance — continue to exist or function even when a paradox would normally erase or halt existence.
Practical Uses
- Overcome inevitability, such as prophetic defeat or destined doom.
- Manipulate narrative-like forces to ensure the user always "wins" or survives.
- Counteract probability-based powers or reality-warping that rely on plausible outcomes.
- Escape multiversal collapse or timelines with locked outcomes.
- Ensure the failure of all plans, events, or structures that oppose the user’s outcome, by making those outcomes "impossible" to occur.
Variations
- Localized Impossibility: Only affects a specific event or timeline fragment.
- Global Impossibility: Erases or prevents specific outcomes across all of existence.
- Reactive Impossibility: Triggers when the user is about to lose or fail, negating the possibility of that loss.
- Passive Impossibility: The user automatically causes outcomes that shouldn't happen, even without trying to.
- Selective Timeline Disjunction: The user can choose which timelines are permitted to exist and which are invalidated.
Possible Limitations
- May only affect outcomes directly involving the user.
- Cannot negate possibilities backed by higher-conceptual or absolute entities.
- Might require conscious awareness of the outcome in order to negate it.
- Could be resisted or countered by users of Conceptual Manipulation, Absolute Probability, or Narrative Authority.
- Excessive use may strain causality or break the universe, leading to instability.
- May only function under extreme emotional will, cosmic circumstances, or unique metaphysical traits (e.g., Determination, Plot Armor).
Users
- Frisk (Undertale): Frisk through their determination re-fuses to accept any possibility where Asriel wins, not resulting in any timeline where Asriel succeeds.
- Ness (MOTHER 2): Ness through his sheer will and the universal system defeated Giygas on such a scale that there exists no timeline where the Chosen Four have lost, and erased the dark future where Giygas ruled.
