"Mature Content"
This character or verse has mature themes and concepts, thus those of young age are ill-advised to look through these.

Background

IMSCARED - A Pixelated Nightmare (can also be spelled as Imscared or IMSCARED) is a horror game developed by Italian creator Ivan Zanotti using Game Maker 8, FL Studio, and MS Paint. Known for its complexity and ambiguity, the game's plot can be difficult to interpret. Featuring a pixelated art style, it creates an "imscared" folder on the desktop, adding files that are necessary for progression.

The original IMSCARED centers on escaping a room. Upon attempting to leave, the screen displays the message: "I need a Heart in order to open it." As the player explores and eventually locates the heart, a strange floating head suddenly jumpscares them, triggering a fake Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) or closing the game in earlier versions. As the game progresses, similar unsettling and confusing events unfold.

Later editions add far more levels and even a new character who is trying to breach into the IMSCARED canon to port the game to mobile devices and consoles.

Plot Summary

Once, someone created an entity known as White Face. It infected people's computers and played games with them, taking on different forms—ranging from an ominous floating head to a slim woman.

IMSCARED begins with an unknown individual trapped in a small room with a door that requires a heart to open. After retrieving a key from under a table near the bed, they unlock a closet containing blood and another key. They proceed to a staircase behind them, leading to a large and eerie hall with multiple doors. Upon opening one of the doors, they find two bookshelves and a key hidden behind one of them. Eventually, they enter a fleshy, blood-soaked room where they locate the required heart. However, as they attempt to leave, White Face appears, causing a fake Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) and crashing the game.

Upon restarting, White Face asks for its name. After entering it, the individual finds themselves in a parking lot, where they are relentlessly pursued by White Face. Escaping through an elevator, they arrive at a street lined with white pillars, each holding crucified, bloodied corpses. Finding a key behind a wall, they manage to open a gate, returning to the ominous hall. They quickly make their way back to the original room, using the heart to open the door and seemingly escape the nightmare.

However, it is revealed to be a trick—White Face traps and tortures them in a cell. The game crashes again, and upon restarting, the player finds themselves in a brightly lit room with numbered doors. Eventually, they confront White Face in a dark, unsettling space with a chair and a noose hanging from the ceiling. White Face tells them they are trapped together for eternity, implying that the only escape is through suicide. The individual steps onto the chair and attempts to hang themselves, only for White Face to intervene, insisting that it still needs them. The game "ends," but the cycle is destined to repeat... or so it seems.
