Laughing Jack is the name of the central antagonist of the popular horror creepypastas "Laughing Jack" and the prequel "The Origin of Laughing Jack". Originally in the prequel story set on Christmas Eve in 19th century London, England, Laughing Jack was a more colorful, cheerful, and innocent clown entity who appeared in a magical jack-in-the-box toy and just wished to play and have fun with his new best friend--Isaac Lee Grossman, who was seven at the time--though hiding his existence to anybody but him. At first, it gives Isaac a more hopeful outlook to life as his family life was very poor, but that would change three months after their first encounter. On a certain sunny summer day, Laughing Jack and Isaac were playing pirates outside. Isaac, captivated by fantasy, asked Laughing Jack to restrain a neighbor's cat up until he accidentally kills it by holding it too tightly. Bizzarely, found this to be hilarious and only started to worry when Laughing Jack pointed out that Isaac would get in trouble for the dead cat. Failing to pin the blame on Laughing Jack, Isaac is forced to go to boarding school and Laughing Jack has to patiently wait in his box for thirteen long years. Laughing Jack became apathetic and his appearance faded into black-and-white during those thirteen years as he resigned to his fate of never escaping his box. However, after both of Isaac's parents died, Isaac (now around 20 years old) inherited his old childhood house in which he began to invite people over (much to the envy of Laughing Jack) and slowly be overcome by sadistic torture and murder. This corrupted Laughing Jack to enjoy the sadism he witnessed, and when once freed by Isaac by accident, his appearance changed to be a more grotesque version of himself, and began to inflict the sadistic torture he had witnessed. After killing Isaac, he set off to meet new friends. A few centuries pass and Laughing Jack now has found a new friend by the name of James (who is 5 years old) in "Laughing Jack". James' mother notices her son's odd behavior and questions him about his new friend, which makes Laughing Jack become more agitated and aggressive towards her. Eventually, Laughing Jack murders the family dog and tortures James to near death, taunting the mother and causing her to accidentally kill her own son, all the while laughing and persumably still stalking her. |

Isaac is persumably Laughing Jack's first best friend and his too. He at first enjoyed and was happy to be around Laughing Jack, playing with him every chance he got. Unfortunately, one day while playing pirates with Laughing Jack, he goes too far and kills a cat and tried hiding it, eventually leaving the two friends separated for over thirteen years. Both would change dramatically, and not in a good way.
Isaac returned back to his childhood home after a long time, he had changed for the worst as he brought people to his home (causing Laughing Jack to react negatively with envy as he felt abandoned and replaced) and killed them in a sadistic bliss. Laughing Jack watching this from his box became twisted and enthralled by the new Isaac he saw. Eventually, Isaac finds the box that Laughing Jack was kept in and accidentally releases him, completely forgetting that he had ever existed. Laughing Jack in a sadistic manic state, decided to greet his old best friend by committing similar acts he witnessed Isaac doing but to a worse extent and wishes him a hearty goodbye, before leaving him for good.
James is a lonely and quiet child of the age of five who met Laughing Jack one summer day in the backyard becoming friends instantly with him. He played with him before being called back in by his mother, telling his mother about his new friend, but his mother chalks it up to being an imaginary friend. The next day, he is out in front of his house eating candy that Laughing Jack had given him.
Eventually, either due to his mother's interference or otherwise, he ends up meeting a gruesome fate, being nailed up on the wall with organs spilling to the floor, missing his eyes and tongue, eventually being accidentally killed by his mother due to Laughing Jack's trickery.
James' Mother is a single mother who is constantly worried about her child, James, but cannot keep an eye on him all the time due to being busy and tired most of the time. Once she became aware of the name Laughing Jack, she started having a nightmare of being in a twisted world reflecting Laughing Jack and his possible children victims overwhelming her, and wakes up to find her son's toys all over her, put by Laughing Jack himself.
Her worries only kept being met with more strange behavior as she became more protective of her son towards the unseen threat. This causes Laughing Jack to retaliate by murdering the house dog and stuffing it with candy and trashing rooms around the house, eventually maiming and injuring James to near death, tricking her into kill her son and taking on the blame. She was sent to a psychatric hospital as a result, where she is still being taunted by Laughing Jack.
