Photo Manipulation

From The Codex
Jump to navigationJump to search

Background

Photo Manipulation is the ability to alter, control, and manipulate photographs or photographic images. Users of this power can edit, distort, or animate images, making them reflect new realities, summon objects or beings from photos, or even trap people inside pictures. Depending on mastery, the user can seamlessly rewrite reality within the limits of a photograph, making it more than just an image but a gateway to altered existence.

Also Called

  • Photographic Manipulation
  • Picture Control
  • Image Alteration
  • Snapshot Manipulation

Possible Applications

  • Changing the appearance of objects, people, or environments within a photo.
  • Erasing or adding elements to images, thereby altering memories or records.
  • Animating photographs, causing the subjects to move or interact.
  • Entering photographs and interacting with the captured world.
  • Pulling objects or people out of photos into the real world.
  • Trapping individuals within a picture, freezing them in a static image.
  • Reconstructing destroyed or old photographs to their original form.
  • Creating illusions based on photos.

Practical Uses

  • Can serve as a form of evidence manipulation, making the user able to alter history or records.
  • Useful for surveillance by animating or peering into past photos.
  • Offers both offensive and defensive abilities—such as trapping enemies in a photo or summoning allies through it.
  • Can be used creatively for entertainment, communication, or art on a supernatural level.
  • Allows the rewriting of outcomes by changing photographic evidence of events.

Variations

  • Photographic Animation: Bringing photographs to life, making the subjects move, speak, or act.
  • Photographic Traversal: Entering or exiting photos to access alternate worlds or hidden dimensions.
  • Photographic Reconstruction: Repairing, restoring, or perfecting images.
  • Photographic Creation: Making new realities, objects, or people appear simply by capturing or altering a picture.
  • Photographic Erasure: Removing elements from photographs, thereby potentially erasing them from existence.

Possible Limitations

  • Photos must exist before manipulation can occur; without images, the power is useless.
  • May require physical contact with the photo to use the ability.
  • Trapped beings might still resist or find ways to escape.
  • Overly edited or corrupted images may create unstable or dangerous results.
  • Limited by the medium—digital photos, prints, or paintings might affect usage differently.
  • Reality outside the photo may not always fully align with what is altered inside it.
