Background
SCP-173 is an animate and extremely hostile creature. One must keep a constant line of sight with the creature without blinking. If one breaks the line of sight, it will attack by snapping the neck at the base of the skull, or by strangulation. Originally classified as Euclid, SCP-173 gained the ability to replicate itself, eventually leading to a mass containment breach, the devastation of North and South America, and an XK-class end-of-world scenario requiring nuclear intervention.

Story Role: XK-class Threat, Monster, Anomalous Statue
Legacy: Catastrophic Legacy (Caused roughly 500,000 civilian deaths across North America in 48 hours)
Classification: Initially Euclid Class, later reclassified as Keter (After second multiplication event)
Species: Unknown
State of Being: Regular
Physiology: Concrete and Rebar (Constructed from concrete and rebar with Krylon spray paint)
In-Universe Creator: Unknown
Occupation: None
Containment Status: Partially Contained (At least 61 copies unaccounted for after breach)
Affiliations: Other SCP-173 instances (Connected via hive intelligence that scales with number)
Enemies: SCP Foundation, Humanity (Killed hundreds of thousands of civilians), SCP-682 (150 instances teamed up to destroy it)
Status: Active
Alignment: Chaotic Evil (Described as extremely hostile, targeting any human it can reach)
Threat Level: Global Threat (Caused an XK-class scenario, Required nuclear bombardment to contain)
Codex Statistics
Grade: S (Declared an XK-class end-of-world scenario by O5 Council requiring complete continental quarantine)
Tier: 9-C individually, Far Higher collectively (Thousands working in unison can breach reinforced military structures designed to withstand significant force)
Cardinality: Finite
Dimensionality: 3-D
Power Source: Unknown
Attack Potency: At least Bone level individually, likely Far Higher (In 682's Termination Logs, caused visible injuries to SCP-682's head, neck and legs after Foundation personnel shot out 682's eyes). Even Higher collectively (In groups of approximately 150, can completely tear apart SCP-682 with ease, and can breach hardened military structures)
Durability: At least Bone level, likely Far Higher (Composed of concrete and rebar, survived containment breaches and encounters with Foundation security measures, required nuclear bombardment for mass neutralization)
Striking Strength: At least Bone Class individually, likely Far Higher (Caused visible injuries to SCP-682's head, neck and legs in initial containment attempt). Even Higher collectively (150 instances together completely dismembered SCP-682, and can tear through reinforced structures made of one foot thick steel)
Lifting Strength: At least Peak Human individually (Capable of snapping human necks which requires force exceeding 3000 newtons), likely Far Higher
Travel Speed: At least Superhuman, likely Far Higher (Can move faster than a human blink which is approximately 100-400 milliseconds, capable of traveling and killing within moments of line of sight being broken. Killed 500,000 people across all of North America in 48 hours.)
Attack Speed: At least Superhuman, likely Far Higher (Attacks within the timeframe of a blink, killed D-Class before they could even complete an exclamation)
Reaction Speed: At least Superhuman, likely Far Higher (Reacts instantly to broken line of sight, demonstrated coordinated reaction times when working together to breach containment)
Stamina: Limitless
Range: Standard Melee individually
Intelligence: Below Average Intelligence individually, Gifted Intelligence collectively (Possesses hive intelligence that increases proportionally with the number of copies, demonstrated complex military tactics including diversionary operations and rear guard formations)
Knowledge: Master level (Demonstrated sophisticated understanding of tactical concepts including diversion, pursuit prevention, and siege warfare, coordinated simultaneous attacks on multiple Foundation facilities)
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Stealth Mastery
- Bloodlust (Described as extremely hostile)
- Self-Sustenance
- Respiratory, Nutritional, & Restful
- Duplication (Produced identical copies of itself)
- Hive Mind (Intelligence scales with number of copies)
- Enhanced Senses (Could detect Elias Shaw regardless of which body he inhabited)
- Sound Manipulation (Produces scraping sounds when not observed)
- Blood Manipulation & Organic Manipulation (Produces blood and feces from unknown source)
Nothing notable.
Notable Techniques
- Neck Snap: If a person moves or blinks in its line of sight, it will immediately attack by snapping their neck at the base of the skull (Primary method of killing).
- Strangulation: If a person moves or blinks in its line of sight, it will immediately attack by strangling them (Secondary method of killing).
- Duplication: Through unknown means, SCP-173 can create identical copies of itself (First observed creating two identical copies), potentially at an exponential rate (Second multiplication event doubled the numbers).
- Coordinated Assault: Multiple instances can work in unison to breach containment (Documented working across multiple cells simultaneously), with some serving as a "rear guard" to block pursuit (Formed defensive positions to protect escaping instances).
- Siege Tactics: In large numbers, SCP-173 instances can besiege and destroy entire facilities (Destroyed 4 Foundation facilities nearly simultaneously), ripping open concrete bunkers and compromising foot-thick steel doors (Working in unison to breach reinforced structures).
Other
Standard Tactics: When observed, SCP-173 remains motionless (Cannot move within direct line of sight), waiting for any lapse in observation. When multiple instances are present, they coordinate to ensure at least some can move and attack at any given time (Evidence shows coordinated breach tactics).
Weaknesses: Cannot move while being directly observed (Line of sight must not be broken). Can be contained in form-fitting metal containers (Revised containment procedures). Vulnerable to nuclear weaponry in large concentrations (Nuclear bombing reduced instance numbers).
Trivia
- Due to it leaving behind blood and feces on the floor (Unknown origin of materials), the enclosure must be cleaned on a bi-weekly basis (Required maintenance).
- The multiplication ability was not observed until later in its containment history.
- SCP-173 caused a breach of Foundation secrecy (News networks broadcast containment instructions).
- Remarkably, 150 instances of SCP-173 working together were able to defeat SCP-682 (Elias Shaw's log confirmed its destruction).
Containment Records
2-1-0
- SCP-682 - Destruction through mass assault
- Conditions: 150 SCP-173 instances working together
- Location: Unknown
- Note: As recorded in Elias Shaw's personal log, approximately 150 SCP-173 instances teamed up and successfully ripped SCP-682 apart (Rare successful termination of SCP-682).
- Foundation Facilities - Destruction of multiple facilities
- Conditions: Mass assault
- Location: Various locations
- Note: SCP-173 has besieged and destroyed 4 Foundation facilities near simultaneously in a 24-hour period (Coordinated attacks on multiple sites).
- Nuclear Bombardment - Mass neutralization
- Conditions: Saturation nuclear bombing
- Location: North and South America (Containment Zone X1) (Entire continents quarantined)
- Note: Following the XK-class scenario, Foundation-coordinated nuclear bombardment successfully reduced the number of SCP-173 instances (Last-resort containment measure), though many remained unaccounted for.
None.
