Forum - How to Handle Characters with Varies Tiers on Versus Threads

[#76]

So the concern for this came from the Mario revisions where it was mentioned that this could potentially mess with versus matchup potential.

So this thread will be used to discuss potential ways to work characters who are purely Varies into versus threads, like Mario, Chowder, Peppino Spaghetti, etcetera.

If anyone has any suggestions please put them here for full discussion and eventual addition into the Versus Threads page for instructions.

The same rules here can also technically apply for characters with Unknown statistics too as their main stats.

this might sound silly but if they really are varied with seemingly no reason behind it, maybe for versus threads...we just give them the tier they need for the match-up to work. There's also the more hard way where if it someone like mario, we see what their best feats in a specific game is and base it on that...like we base it specifically on Galaxy 1-2 mario..or we base it on Mario and Rabbids Mario. Just tossing my hat in the ring.

That could work, if the point of varies is they're whatever they want to be for a match then you could match them to the opponents tier you want them to fight or go by the feats listed on the page as a stricter requirement.

I'm liking the idea the more I think about it.

What would you say for cases with Unknown stats?

Unknown tier is more "Defined" i guess the word would be..they're given a lot more section compared to varies so obviously Unknown's should stick their battles to their classifications like Class-A's should stay fighting Class-'s, Class-B should stick with Class-B's simply from what we are shown of them...we know they are at least that strong. However, from that point onward, it's mainly a mix of guessing and assumptions so it's probably a case by case basis depending on if a match could even work. The only one i could see ignoring this is Unknown:consistent which is where i guess you could give similar rules to varies but to a lesser degree

Sounds good, I'll see what further input anyone else has.

What stinkygumi said seems fair enough. I think I agree moreso with the stricter lens but I guess you can also combine the two and say something like "we want to use this tier but also this version that has this tier"

I think what StinkyGumi has pointed out is quite good, and that would be the way for us to go about it.
