Forum - The Big Tier 1 Revisions

Alright, so I’ve been thinking this honestly since I became more critical of power scaling, so nearly two to three years ago.

This is a proposal for reference.

The subject of today’s discussion is the entirety of Tier 1.

Let’s talk about the pros and cons of it.

Pros

• It serves as a method to differentiate from the higher infinities.
• It continues the chain past 2-A with something akin to mathematics and science.

Cons

• It’s confusing, not only on the scale of people have a hard time understanding it, but also the fact that no wiki has a consistent definition for it, every wiki I’ve seen always has some kind of different definition, tier 2 is generally kept the same. With some differences, but it’s all the same general thing, a multiverse and space-time.

Now with these in mind, let’s discuss my issues.

Issues

Tier 1 itself doesn’t really serve the same purpose as tier 2. Tier 2 is to differentiate sizes through how many universes there are, with 2-A+ being infinite universes. This is a general way to explain it, it works for any viewer, they don’t need any strong knowledge to figure much else out.

This mixes with authorial intent, while I do think they are meaning to do this to make the multiverse more impressive in scale and scope, I do not think they're thinking it's an entirely separate tier from a regular multiverse.

Hell, the idea of Tegmark’s model of the multiverse was to not have “separate tiers” but separate levels instead that all exist within the same thing. So it still is a multiversal space-time overall, which… is kinda what Tier 2 is meant to represent? Which makes tier 1's existence redundant.

A perfect example is in crossovers where two multiversal threats meet, regardless of the scale of the multiverse they have, they will be treated as equal threats by the protagonist, one having a “bigger” or “smaller” multiverse won’t ever matter. While this can apply to the entirety of tier 2, the issue is that tier 1’s existence doesn’t add something “new”, just something “bigger”, which is the point of tier 2.

Tier 2 changes

So with this in mind, my idea is to turn Tier 1 into what other wikis use Tier 0, Tier 1 will serve as absolute infinity, having no letter to associate with it.

Now, what about the section for tier 1? I have a couple of ideas regarding it:

I can have 2-A+ be where the tiers remain the same, and 2-A+ is just in the description of the profile, or why it's more impressive than another 2-A+.

I can split 2-A into this:

• Low 2-A: Deals with a multiverse of ad infinitum size
• 2-A: Deals with a multiverse of infinite size
• High 2-A: Deals with the higher infinites

I can merge ad infinities and infinite size together since normally a fiction treats them as the same general deal, since vs battles aren't even an important thing to us anymore and serve more as a hobby thing for users, the general difference in this truly doesn't matter for someone just there to look at a full indexing profile, this would make it where 2-A+ deals with the higher infinites

I merge all of them into simply 2-A, with 2-A+ being for approaching absolute infinity, so ->Ω.

A similar system to 3:

• Low 2-A: Deals with a multiverse of ad infinitum size
• 2-A: Deals with a multiverse of infinite size
• 2-A+: Deals with the higher infinites (in a way similar to how VSBW used to use High 2-A)
• High 2-A: Deals with one approaching absolute infinity, so ->Ω

The High 2-A idea is based on approaching absolute infinity, which could work as its own tiering section, though I don’t like the idea of having to give specialized names since that kind of messes with the point I’m trying to address with Tier 1. So if the absolute infinity gets its own tiering section, I’d most likely like the number 4 idea, but if anyone has any other ideas, bring them to the table.
