When four Puyo of the same color touch, they can be sacrificed to the Goddess of Spacetime through the use of the "Owanimo" incantation. This is known as "popping" Puyo. When Puyo are popped, they release magical energy that fuel the battler's magic attacks. Popping Puyo also has the side effect of dropping hard Nuisance Puyo on the opponent. The battle ends when either individual is incapacitate by the opponent's attacks. All Puyo battles follow these basic rules, but there are multiple rulesets that add on to, and alter these basic principles.
