From The Codex
Misc. Sports

*Banana Peel: When the player uses this power-up, a banana peel attaches itself to the ball, then deposited on the court when the ball bounces. This puts a potential slipping spot on the court, forcing the players opponent to play around the peel, lest they slip and fall. However, if the ball does not hit the ground, but is volleyed, the banana has the potential to be placed on the other side of the court.

• Mushroom: Using one of these mushrooms grants the player faster speed.
• Lightning Bolt: When used, a bolt of lightning strikes the opponent, rendering them temporarily dazed.
• Star: Power is increased by the player using a Star. The shots will gain more power and be hard to return if well-placed. Other power-ups can be used with the Star.
• Koopa Shell (Green): The next shot after using this power-up will be followed by a trio of shells, which will temporarily stun the opponent.
• Koopa Shell (Red): This power-up sends out a homing shell that seeks out the opponent and knocks them over for a moment.

*Green Koopa Shell: 3 shells zoom out in straight lines. If the player gets hit by one, they will stumble and lose time, possibly going as far as help the opponent gain a point.

• Red Koopa Shell: One Red Shell comes out and chases after the opponent. The effect is similar to that of a green shell if contact has been initiated.
• Mushroom: The Mushroom increases the player's movements for a brief moment of time. It also grows the player back into normal size quicker if they had been shrunk by Lightning.
• Banana: A stationary banana gets shot out. If it hits the ground, the banana remains there. Slipping on a banana peel also has the same effect as shells.
• Star: The Star increases the player's abilities and it makes the player invulnerable for a short period of time. It also grows the player back to normal size quicker, if the player was shrunk by Lightning.
• Lightning: The Lightning strikes the opponents of the court and shrinks them to a tiny size. The opponent's speed, stature, and power will also decrease.
• The content and number of the item boxes depends on the court being played on.

*Mario's Racket

• Wooden Racket
• Mirror Racket
• Ice Racket
• Shell Racket
• Flame Racket

Name Image Description
Mushroom Makes the ball roll far once it lands.
Fire Flower Increases the shot distance and burns through trees and obstacles.
Ice Flower Freezes terrain to allow the ball to bounce multiple times. This item also works on water, but not on lava.
Bullet Bill Turns the ball into a Bullet Bill and blasts it in a straight line. Ignores wind and greatly increases maximum distance.
Bob-omb Ignores power-reducing terrain, allowing the ball to be hit at full power in the rough.
Boomerang Flower Drastically increases the draw or fade of the shot.
Note Block Creates a Note Block in midair, letting the ball avoid hazards.
Tornado A tornado that sucks up nearby coins.
Kab-omb Explodes in mid-air to drop the ball straight down.
Gold Flower Has the same effect as the Fire Flower, plus gives the player coins for every yard the ball travels.

*Bananas: Bananas are tossed on the floor and stay there until a character slips on it. They come in sets of 1 to 6 peels.

• Green Shells: Green shells fly in a straight line, bouncing off the walls and harming anybody who gets hit by them. They can be obtained as a single or triplets.
• Red Shells: When red shells are shot, they home in on the nearest character, tripping or knocking them over. Red shells are destroyed if they bump into walls. They can be obtained as a single or triplets.
• Blue Shells: Blue shells act just like green shells, but with one difference: they freeze their victims, rather than just knocking them over. Like the green and red shells, they come as singles or sets of three.
• Spiny Shells: Spiny shells act in a similar manner to green shells. However, when they come into contact with a character, they do not disappear, instead continuing until they either hit another item or bounce off the wall twice. This shell, as usual, can be obtained as either singles or triplets.
• Giant Green Shells: Essentially a larger version of the green shell. Anything standing in the way of its destructive path will merely be bowled over. These shells are only available as a single.
• Giant Red Shells: The red version of the giant shell. Unlike the small version, they continue to move after bumping into a wall. When initially shot off, they will home in on the nearest character, but afterwards, they merely act like a giant green shell. Like the green ones, they only come in sets of one shell.
• Giant Blue Shells: Acts in the same manner as the giant green shells, with the exception of freezing characters on impact. On occasion, the shell will also explode on impact, affecting any nearby characters as well. Like the other giant shells, they only come in sets of one.
• Giant Spiny Shells: These shells are completely unstoppable, leaving behind a trail of destruction anywhere they go. Only comes in sets of one.
• Bob-ombs: After being thrown, these living explosives will stand still for a second, then blow up, affecting anyone who is too close to it. They can be obtained in sets of one or three.
• Mega Bob-omb: Essentially a larger Bob-omb. Their explosion radius is roughly four times larger. Plus, it sends out a shockwave, harming anyone who is even near it.
• Mushroom: Doubles the user's speed.
• Star: Doubles the user's speed, as well as harming anyone they come in contact with. Can only be obtained by the losing team.
• Chain Chomp: This all-powerful huge monster will appear as a big shadow over the character who has the ball. Once it lands, it begins running around, hunting and stunning all of the opponents' members and destroying everything in its path. Chain Chomps do not go away without having stunned at least one character. Only the losing team can come into possession of a Chain Chomp.

*Banana Peels: A staple of the Mario sports series, Banana Peels again play the role of a landmine. Players who touch a Banana Peel fall to the ground and lose the ball if in possession. Banana Peels come in sets of three or five normal-sized items. There also is a bigger version of the Banana Peel which comes in a set of one, and it does not leave behind three smaller Banana Peels when someone touches it like it does in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

• Green Shells: Green Shells are the basic projectile item. They do not home in on players, but because they come in sets of three, they are very effective at close range. If they make contact with a wall, they ricochet off. However, they are destroyed upon contact with a player. The player that gets hit falls and is stunned for a brief moment.
• Giant Green Shells: Unlike its miniature counterpart, the Giant Green Shell is a devastating item. While its movement pattern is the same, it does not disintegrate upon its first impact with an item or player. Any players that get hit by this green shell gets buried and is stunned for an amount of time. Only one can be fired at a time.
• Red Shells: A more advanced projectile weapon than the Green Shell, the Red Shell homes down the nearest opposing player. They come in sets of three, making them useful both for clearing the field for a Mega Strike or taking possession of the ball. However, not all three always reach targets. Often, one breaks into pieces by hitting a wall.
• Giant Red Shells: The Giant Red Shell is more robust than the normal Red Shell. It will bounce off of walls for a number of times before crumbling. As soon as it bowls over one player, its homing abilities are nullified and it acts as a Giant Green Shell. Only one can be fired at a time.
• Blue Shells: The Blue Shell utilizes a similar movement pattern to the Green Shell and also comes in packs of three which are deployed at the same time. Blue Shells bounce off walls until they come in contact with a player or break. The character is then encased in ice, effectively stunning him or her for a few seconds.
• Giant Blue Shells: Larger than the basic blue shell, the Giant Blue Shell follows the same movement pattern and also freezes characters. They can only be released one at a time.
• Spiked Shells: While they have the same effects on players as the Green Shells, Spiked Shells are much more durable and will bounce off walls more times than the Green Shell can before falling apart. During this period, they can run over players an infinite number of times.
• Giant Spiked Shells: The difference between Giant Spiked Shells and Spiked Shells is comparable to the differences between Giant Blue Shells and Blue Shells; they last longer. The movement patterns of both versions are the same. The difference between the types of Spiked Shells is their size. Also, only one can be fired at a time.
• Bob-ombs: Some of the most devastating items in the game, Bob-ombs come in sets of three or five, deployed in front of the player with the ball, or the player closest to the teammate with the ball. All players caught in the blast radius, excluding the user, are affected by the blast. They cause tremendous explosions that literally ram players into the field. Unlike in other games, the player who deploys the Bob-ombs cannot be injured by them as they explode on contact with the ground, although their teammates can.
• Mega Bob-ombs: The largest item-based explosive in the game, the Mega Bob-omb can only be fired one at a time. All players caught in the blast radius, excluding the user, are affected by the blast. However, the size of the explosion is much greater than that of an individual Bob-omb. The blast radius is much larger, although the attack is not as wide as that of three normal-sized Bob-ombs.
• Chain Chomps: While the Mario Kart games had the Thunderbolt item, Strikers tournaments use the Chain Chomp. Systematically attacking every single player on the opposing team by ramming him or her into the ground, the Chain Chomp can easily turn the tide of the game, although it will not hesitate to flatten the user and their teammates if they are in the way. If the user's team is not in possession of the ball, the Chain Chomp falls onto the pitch right on top of the player in possession. The item is very rare, and it mostly appears if a team is losing badly.

? Block
Provides an item when touched. Spectators can throw two kinds of ? Blocks onto the field:
- Rainbow-colored ? Blocks can be used by either team. Exciting plays and dangerous tackles make these appear more often.
- Team-colored ? Blocks can be used only by the team matching its color. When a player who does not have the ball is tackled, regardless of which team they're on, their team will receive a team-colored ? Block.

• Image Item Description
Coin Coins are obtained by dribbling on the ? Panels. Each coin counts as one towards a team's stockpile. A team can have up to 100 coins at once. They are dropped if a character is hit by an item or loses the ball due to a steal. Players, regardless of what team they are on, can pick up coins from the ground if dropped.
Red Coin Red Coins are earned the same way regular coins are. They are worth ten coins towards a team's stash.
Lightning Once activated, everyone except the user is struck down for a couple of seconds, even their teammates. Initially, the player must jump at the bolt to use it, as it is up high, giving the defensive player the edge. However, it eventually hovers down, allowing an offensive player to run into it.
Mushroom The Mushroom boosts the user's speed for awhile. It is especially advantageous for the ball handler to pick up, as it allows them to speed past defenders and, thus, get an easier opportunity to score.
Poison Mushroom Contrary to the Mushroom, the Poison Mushroom slows the character for awhile. This is the status ailment the Malboro on the court Malboro Garden inflicts.
Star The Star is an upgrade from the Mushroom, as it boosts the users speed while also giving them invincibility for awhile. Any contact with the player who is using the star results in them being knocked down.
Banana The simple yellow peel still trips up anyone who slips on it. The banana item also is periodically thrown at random from the neighboring jungles on the court DK Cruiser.
Bomb When thrown, Bombs explode within 3 seconds, knocking anyone in the vicinity down, including players from the same team as the thrower. Their explosions are comparable, but cover less area, than those of Bob-ombs in the court Wario Factory.
Fake ? Panel When thrown, it disguises itself as a ? Panel, except for its display of a backward question mark. A character trying to use this panel will be knocked down when they step on it, as well as lose the ball if they are on offense.
Green Shell Bouncing freely, Green Shells are more powerful than Bananas when they make contact. They are discarded from the field when they have bounced twice off the boundaries without coming into contact with any player.
Red Shell Once thrown, Red Shells will go for the player who is dribbling the ball. They do, however, have less accuracy than in the Mario Kart series, and miss often if the player makes a sudden turn (quick-dash). The Red Shell will then act like a Green Shell and simply bounce off the boundaries of the court.
Spiny Shell The Spiny Shell in this game does not possess wings. It acts as a more powerful item than the Red Shell, as it follows the ball regardless of where it is, creating a blue explosion. Once thrown, it does not miss its target.
Slot Coin Slot Coins are exclusively found on Jr. Street and are picked up only through the purple ? Panels. They power the slot machine on the court, and the more Slot Coins obtain powers up different rows on the panel, giving more chances for better rewards after the next basket is made. Only three can be carried by one team at once. Jr. Street
Freezy Freezies are available only on Sherbet Land, where they act is Green Shells when thrown. If a Freezy comes into contact with any player, that player is temporarily frozen in an icicle and unable to participate in play. Sherbet Land
Mimic These treasure chest items make their debut in any Mario game, and are encountered only on the court Bloocheep Sea. Once thrown, the Mimic chomps its way towards the ball handler in an attempt to strip the ball away. Mimics also sometimes cough up coins that can be picked up by either team. Bloocheep Sea
Item Name Function
Banana A single banana is thrown into the court. The bananas can make players slip and fall, which stuns them for a brief amount of time. Bananas can also be used to block incoming shells. When players use the item in conjunction with the ball/puck, the ball/puck makes a homing, wide curve and can hit anyone with the same effects of a banana.
Bob-omb A bob-omb is thrown correspondingly to the user's aim. When the bomb lands, it explodes, knocking any player caught in the blast radius. Bob-ombs also obliterate items in its radius. A mini-game, Bob-omb Dodge, has a sole purpose of tossing Bob-ombs of various sizes at players, who must dodge these bombs.
Coin Though not an offensive weapon, unlike all other items listed, coins play a vital role in Mario Sports Mix and serve as a puck in hockey, although the latter role is not associated with its sole purpose. Coins are mainly collected by running on ? Panels, but are also obtainable by stage hazards or by stealing them from other players via offensive items. Coins increase the score output and how much damage is done to players in dodgeball. Coins get depleted into points once players score or hurt players in dodgeball, which means that players must collect coins again if they want to score more points. A maximum of 10 coins can be collected at a time.
Green Shell Similar to its function in the Mario Kart series, Green Shells move in a straight line and bounce off any wall. They get destroyed by any other item in play and disappear when they hit another player or bounce in the wall enough times. When used in conjunction with the ball/puck, this item homes towards its goal and can hit any player in its way, however stopping the ball/puck momentum.
Mini Mushroom The Mini Mushroom shrinks any players it comes in contact with. Except when used in conjunction with the ball/puck, the Mini Mushroom behaves quite similarly to the Banana; they both get lobbed and both remain in one spot. Any player turned mini cannot perform most moves and gets movement lowered. The Mini Mushroom's effects revert over time.
Red Shell Much like the Green Shell, the Red Shell functions not too different than its counterpart in the Mario Kart series. The Red Shell homes after its nearby opponent. When contact is initiated, the player gets knocked in the same manner as a Green Shell. Red Shells do not rebound off walls and can get destroyed by another item. When used in conjunction with the ball/puck, the Red Shell does a large curve and homes for the goal. When in this form, the Red Shell can knock other players away, but this stops the momentum of the ball/puck, much like the Green Shell.
Super Star Not too different than its functions in other various games, the Super Star makes players invincible. Unlike all other items, this item can be obtained very rarely, most likely to the losing team. When this item is collected, it automatically activates itself. The Super Star not only makes players invincible, it also powers up the ball/puck, making it impervious to other player attacks while flying through the players, homing to the goal and moving at a much faster speed.
