This is a blog that's about how big Smash's cosmology is. Duh.
Each Series Universe
In Smash, it's directly noted that each fighter from different series comes from a different dimension. This is likely a reference for how these characters come from a different series. It's directly stated by Viridi here that Joker comes from a different dimension. This doesn't apply to just Joker, but every DLC character (except for Piranha Plant) are noted to be from different dimensions as the dialogue stays the same. This applies all the way back to Smash 4. This makes a total of 18 different universes (Roy, Lucas, Bayonetta, Ryu, Mewtwo, Cloud, Corrin, Joker, Hero, Banjo & Kazooie, Terry, Byleth, Min Min, Alex, Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra, Kazuya, and Sora). This doesn't stop there, it's stated that BoTW Link is a different Link from a 100 year gap, something Pit has not experienced. This would make sense as three Links can co-exist, despite in-lore, they are different incarnations from different time periods. This is also applied to Ganondorf from OOT, as well as Zelda from ALttP.
Time Hurts
Things get a bit more interesting here when we discuss The Hero of Time, Young Link. See, it's by both Palutena and Viridi that every action and inaction creates a parallel timeline, there being an infinite amount of timelines from these actions/inactions.
But this is the English text, the Japanese text has had some debate over which translation is correct. Luckly, a user named Aien helped us. She is a reliable translator, as she does translations and the like for the Zelda community, getting Japanese screen caps from here.
Palutena: 時のオカリナを駆使しガノンドロフに挑んだ勇者です “He's the hero who made use of the Ocarina of Time to challenge Ganondorf.”
“The fate and conclusions of this hero created parallel worlds, and various legends were born as a result.”
I don't really understand what that means…”
“If you hadn't defeated Medusa, Palutena wouldn't be here right now would she. Right?”
“I mean, I guess so?”
“Well, somewhere unseen, there exists a world where Hades and Medusa are alive and well.”
“Everything in this world is cause and effect. Choices and conclusions, birthing infinite parallel worlds!!”
Nana's Domain
If you do not agree with the translation above, then there is another way to get High 2-B. As stated by Viridi, MWI does indeed exist, and one of the levels in Melee is known as "Infinite Glacier".
While the name alone would be hyperbolic, the entire gimmick of the level is that the stage goes up and downwards forever, never having an end. Thus implying an infinite space and with this, and thus infinite actions and inactions can be made.
The World Beyond
There exists something beyond this, this being the Real World. The Real World is an official place that is stated by both in-game and by Sakurai himself, which is described as a world beyond. As stated, the Super Smash Bros. fighters are fighters in the Imaginary World (the main multiverse), but are toys in the Real World. The game makes it clear that the fighters cannot comprehend nor exist naturally in The Real World, as we have shown that before Master Hand appears, the toys are immobile and have no life given. Even when they enter The Real World, they are unable to naturally exist in it.
Conclusion
The Imaginary World contains an infinite amount of timelines, thus making it a 11-A realm with its own lower hierarchal multiverse.
The Real World is a realm beyond The Imaginary World.
