User:GiverOfThePeace/Metal Sonic Lifting Strength Calc Port

From The Codex

Introduction

In issue #12, Metal Sonic upon awakening is shown to effortlessly break free of numerous metal chains despite being in a very weakened state. That's what I'll be calculating.

Calculation

I'll use Sonic's wrist as reference for Metal's wrist. Sonic's wrist:

First we need to find the width of Sonic's arm.

Scan 1

Sonic = 100 cm

Sonic's arm width = 4.26 cm

Now we have to find the width of the lance.

Wrist: 4.26/44 = 0.0968181818181818 cm/px

Chain width: 0.0968181818181818*39 = 3.775cm (0.03775m)

Chain diameter: 0.0968181818181818*395 = 38.243cm (0.38243m)

Chain Cross-Section Area: 0.03775*0.38243 = 0.0144367325 meters^2

I'll take off 75% for hollowness because it's a chain.

True Area: 0.003609183125 meters^2

Tensile strength of steel = 400 MPa

0.003609183125*1e+6*400 = 1,443,673.25kg (Class M)

Multiply by two to account for their being 2 chains on each arm.

1443673.25*2 = 2,887,346.5kg (Class M)

Multiply by 2 once more to account for it being done with one arm (Broke two chains per arm).

2887346.5*2 = 5,774,693kg

Update

I'm going to be making an update, using another part of Metal Sonic as reference for the chain (Rather than a measurement from Sonic)

100/422 = 0.2369668246445498 cm/px

Leg joint: 0.2369668246445498*21 = 4.028cm

4.028/29 = 0.1388965517241379 cm/px

Chain Width: 0.1388965517241379*42 = 5.833cm (0.05833m)

Chain Diameter: 0.1388965517241379*407 = 56.53cm (0.5653m)

Chain cross-section area: 0.05833*0.5653 = 0.032973949

Subtract 75% to account for hollowness

True Area: 0.00824348725

Tensile strength of steel: 400 MPa

0.00824348725*1e+6*400 = 3297394.9

Multiply by four for reasons listed prior to update.

3297394.9*4 = 13189579.6kg

Conclusion

Metal Sonic shatters chains:

  • 5774693 Kilograms; Class M

Update

  • 13189579.6 Kilograms; Class M
