User:MrWarnerTheGreat/Shovel Knight Calculation Compilation

From The Codex

Introduction

Title summarizes the point of this blog. Shovel Knight has always been an inconsistent series to scale on this particular wiki. With this blog, I hope to achieve some rather simple values to get a final tier for these characters.

Black Knight destroys the ground

The Feat

In the Specter Knight campaign, a prequel to Shovel of Hope, Black Knight slams thy shovel into the soil of the Earth, causing the entire walkway to collapse and crumble into pieces.

This will scale to everyone at their earliest introduction, and shouldn't be an outlier given how regularly feats like these are in the series (As we'll soon see).

The Calculation

Version One

Shovel Knight characters and their height are a challenge to pinpoint. Luckily for us, there happens to be a tree relatively close to the walkway where Specter Knight and Black Knight initially stand.

For simplicity's sake, we go with a blue spruce tree which is native to the central and southern Rocky Mountains of the western United States. Shovel Knight's world happens to be below large rocky mountains which even reach back in the distance.

Blue Spruce Trees can grow on average around fifty to seventy-five feet tall. We'll use a low-ball and go with 50ft, which is about 15.24 meters tall.

Tree height = 691px

Destroyed walkway length = 1545px

Destroyed walkway height = 211px

To save us some time, we'll assume the walkway width is the same size as the height is. This makes our volume is 737928277.706cm³.

This particular feat was very clearly fragmentation, so we'll use the fragmentation of rock (8 J/cc). Thus our final equation is 8*737928277.706 = 5903426221.65 joules, or 1.410952729839866 of TNT, Large Building level (High 8-C).

Version Two

We're making this version due to the next few calcs souly relying on in-game character heights. We'll use the height found here, which makes the blue-plated knight 136.906 centimeters.

The difference in height between Shovel Knight and Black Knight isn't that large So we'll stick with Shovel Knight's height to get the simplest result.

Black Knight = 152px

Destroyed walkway length = 1545px

Destroyed walkway height = 211px

With these heights in mind, our volume comes out to be 50260878.577755cm³. Like before our formula will involve rock fragmentation which makes the final equation 8*50260878.577755 = 402087028.622 joules, or 0.09610110626720841 tons of TNT.

That's Small Building level (Low 8-C).

Specter Knight vaporizes a cannon ball

No further explanation needed. We know this is vaporization since Specter Knight's other moves on larger cannon balls leaves heat marks when sliced open.

Specter Knight is 189.89px tall, whereas the cannon ball is 77px in diameter.

Specter Knight's height is unknown, but given he's taller than Black Knight while crouching, I'll assume an average male height of 175.4cm.

This makes the cannon balls diameter 71.1243351411cm, and thus its volume is 188388.02cm³. We'll be using vaporization of iron for this, given most cannon balls are made of iron.

188388.02*60915.7 = 11475788109.9 joules, or 2.742779184966539 tons of TNT, Large Building level.

Black Knight fires some meteors

Black Knights gets blessed by the Enchantress' dark arts and can now fire meteors from beyond the heavens (I tried to make that as medieval as possible).

Given when this takes place in the game, this will scale to a much later point and at all of the characters' peaks (Assuming this calculation gets higher than the last).

The Calculation

Version One

There isn't a whole lot for reference in this particular arena, but we do have the massive castle door that Shovel Knight exits from after the battle. Castle walls from the medieval era were tipically built to be as tall as twelve meters in height.

Tower of Fate gate entrance = 845px

Meteorite diameter = 219px

Most meteors that exist outside the Earth's atmosphere are made primarily of rock, making a single square centimeter three grams dense.

With our radius of 1.55502958559 meters, our volume is 15750871.120189cm³, thus our meteor density is 47252.6133606 kilograms.

We'll use our standard calculation blog which has most meteors falling from space with a speed of 11000 m/s.

However due to the speed at which the meteors fall after Black Knight summons them, we'll use the high end speed of 17000 m/s as our high-end.

The kinetic energy formula is KE = 0.5*m*v^2

Low-End: 0.5*47252.6133606*11000^2 = 2858783108316.3 joules, or 683.265561261065955 tons of TNT. Multi-City Block level (8-A).

High-End: 0.5*47252.6133606*17000^2 = 6828002630606.7 joules, 1.63193179508 kilotons of TNT, a little higher into Multi-City Block level (8-A).

Version Two

For this next version, we'll be scaling the meteor directly to Shovel Knight's height, which we've established as 4'6.

Shovel Knight = 153px

Battleground = 1913/1923px

Meteor diameter = 219px

A few math equations later involving these numbers gets us a radius of 98.163529411 centimeters.

With this in mind, our volume is 3962224.724728cm³, which makes the meteor density 11886.6741742 kilograms.

Plugging this into our formula alongside our previous speed values for a low and high-end.

Low-End: 0.5*11886.6741742*11000^2 = 719143787539.1 joules, or 171.87949032961279 tons of TNT, which is Multi-City Block level (8-A).

High-End: 0.5*11886.6741742*17000^2 = 1717624418171.9 joules, wich translates over to 410.522088473207418 tons of TNT, which is yet again Multi-City Block level (8-A).
