Background

Herbert West is the protagonist of the Re-Animator trilogy of films, inspired by the novel by H.P. Lovecraft Herbert West ─ Re-Animator.

Herbert was studying at the University of Zürich in Switzerland, and together with his professor, Dr. Hans Gruber, he worked on the creation of a biochemical serum that was capable of restoring the life of a dead being. When Dr. Gruber died of cardiac arrest, Herbert tested the serum on the corpse of his professor, but because he did not administer the dose properly, the body did not revive properly and ended up spiraling out of control. West was expelled from the University of Zürich, but thanks to an agreement, he would be sent to the Miskatonic University in his home country of the United States to continue his research. It would be here where Herbert would be determined to perfect his Reanimating Serum in order to find the secret of life after death.
