Background
Self-Destruction is the ability to detonate oneself in an attempt to kill their foe with the resulting blast. This process is almost invariably fatal to the user, though some characters possess the ability to survive their own self-destruction techniques, often through regeneration, invulnerability, or other forms of damage resistance.
Applications
- Explosion Creation: The user can generate an explosive burst of energy, either from their body or as a result of their body’s physical state.
- Sacrificial Attack: The user may use self-destruction as a last resort to take down an opponent, often when no other options are viable.
- Regeneration Resistance: Some users may rely on regenerative healing factors to survive the explosion, recovering from the damage sustained.
- Energy Conversion: In certain cases, self-destruction can be used to release stored energy, causing an enormous blast that damages the user’s environment or foes.
- Mind Control or Manipulation Resistance: Users can forcefully trigger self-destruction in extreme situations where they may otherwise be controlled or manipulated.
Possible Limitations
- Inherently Fatal: Self-destruction usually leads to the death of the user unless they have a form of immortality, regeneration, or damage resistance.
- Unpredictability: The effectiveness of the technique can vary depending on the user’s control over the blast, and it may fail to harm an opponent or even backfire.
- Collaterally Damaging: The explosion can cause unintended collateral damage, potentially harming allies or innocent bystanders.
Users
- Vegeta (Dragon Ball): Vegeta is the most famous user in Dragon Ball with this ability, as he used it to sacrifice himself to try and destroy Majin Buu for good, with his move being dubbed "Final Explosion".
- Creeper (Minecraft): Creeper's in Minecraft are infamous for being able to self-destruct on the spot, dealing great damage to Steve, normally killing a player off guard.
