Background
The Jak and Daxter series is a video game franchise created by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Although originally and primarily developed for the PlayStation 2, other games have been developed for the PlayStation Portable by other developers, namely Daxter by Ready at Dawn and The Lost Frontier by High Impact Games. Additionally, the original trilogy was remastered for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita by Mass Media in 2012. By December 2017, emulation and trophy support was added for the original trilogy and Jak X: Combat Racing on PlayStation 4.
The plot of the games begins with The Precursor Legacy, a much lighter-hearted game and story. The plot focuses on Jak, Samos Hagai and Keira as they gather power cells to travel the world in search of a cure for Daxter, who has been transformed from a human to an ottsel by dark eco. Following The Precursor Legacy, the games took on a much darker, grittier tone.
In Jak II, Jak travels on the Rift Rider through the Rift Gate acquired at the end of The Precursor Legacy, in which he arrives in Haven City, and then is kidnapped by the Krimzon Guard and forced to participate in the Dark Warrior Program, in which he is experimented on. Jak is the only test subject who survives, but escapes with the help of Daxter, and fights for revenge against Baron Praxis, but soon learns more about the world he is now trapped in and fights against the Metal Head armies who have ravaged it. In Jak 3, Jak, Daxter and Pecker are cast out from Haven City, only to be discovered by Damas with the help of Ashelin, and forced to prove their worth to Spargus in order to survive, but must then fight the war for Haven City between the Freedom League, Metal Heads and KG Death Bots.
Following Jak 3, the next three releases took on less of an overarching plot. In Jak X: Combat Racing, Rayn invites Jak, Daxter, Samos, Keira, Torn and Ashelin to the reading of Krew's last will. They soon learn that Krew has poisoned the drinks he gave them, and in order to receive the antidote, they must race for Krew's team against Mizo's in the Kras City Grand Championship. Daxter details the events prior to Jak II, in which Daxter in Haven City is approached by Osmo to join Kridder Ridder and fight against the Metal Bugs, while looking to find Jak and free him from the Krimzon Guard. The Lost Frontier sees Jak, Daxter, and Keira fly in an airship to Brink Island - the part of the world the Precursors did not finish - to find out how to solve its eco shortage, in which they become involved in the conflict between Aeropa and the Sky Pirates.
Power of the Verse
The verse is overall in the lower levels of superhuman, with most characters reaching Wall level, with some of the higher tiers reaching from Small Building level to Building level in size. For speed the verse reaches around Supersonic with some Speed of Light tech. It also has a decent amount of abilities including, Electricity Manipulation, Energy Manipulation, Absorption, Explosion Manipulation, Homing Attack, Time Manipulation, Forcefield Creation, etcetera.
Terms
- Eco: Eco is a powerful substance in the Jak and Daxter series. It is capable of physically appearing in the form of droplets or clusters of liquid or as a gas in its natural form(s), ore, a prism, or a crystal, and comes in the six different known colors of light eco, dark eco, green eco, blue eco, yellow eco, and red eco, each color possessing a different and specific property. It was created by the Precursors and is studied and mastered by a group of humans known as sages. Eco is produced and distributed at the eco core, and is used as the primary currency throughout the games next to Precursor orbs, especially when in the form of ore. All colors of eco are able to invoke their properties or abilities into what they are passed through, and can sometimes be channeled through a living body. It can also be used to power technology, mostly including weapons.
- Metal Heads: The Metal Heads, known by the Precursors as the Hora-quan, are an antagonist faction in Daxter, Jak II, and Jak 3, with a small role in Jak X: Combat Racing. They were an alien race of biomechanoid lifeforms comprising around thirty known distinct species, including Metal Bugs. Such species were reptilian, insectoid, or (more rarely) dinosaurian in nature, ranging from diminutive to colossal in size. All Metal Heads are identified by a metallic exoskeleton (giving them their name), as well as a skull gem embedded in the head, chest, or back. Ancient enemies of the Precursors and the namesake belligerent of the Metal Head Wars, the Metal Heads were led by the ancient Kor, referred to as "Great One", until his death by the hands of Jak at the end of Jak II. Remnants of the race were then commanded by Cyber Errol before his death at the end of Jak 3, also by Jak. Within one year, there was only one known extant species, hunted in Jak X: Combat Racing for sport. This appears to reflect the dwindling status of the Metal Head race as a whole.
- Precursors: The Precursors are an ancient race of ottsels and the central deities of the series' setting. Due to the Precursors being small, rodent-like ottsels, they fabricated a mythos of large, god-like creatures made of Precursor metal, humanoid in stature with insectoid heads, large round eyes, and a proboscis extending below their jaw. This was perceived as the Precursor race's appearance for most of history before their discovery by Jak and Daxter towards the later parts of Jak 3, in which they were revealed as ottsels. Despite their appearance, they are still the "most powerful beings in the universe." Although all known Precursors are ottsels, and all known ottsels are Precursors, it is unknown if all ottsels are necessarily Precursors.
Verse Scaling
Majority of the verse should scale around Jak, a character who can casually break metal crates, knock over and break large bone pillars, and casually break large metal vents.
