Introduction
Damage Manipulation is the ability to manipulate the forms of damage one takes, whether physical, spiritual, mental, etcetera. While similar to Pain Manipulation, this ability deals with the overall idea of damage while the former has to deal with the feeling of pain. Another way this can differ is while Pain Manipulation normally has no real effect on inorganic targets as they don't have biological bodies to feel pain, damage does not require a biological body to occur.
Applications
Damage Inducement
Damage Inducement is the supernatural ability to induce damage on someone through normally unexplainable means to the average person. This usually means one can spawn damage onto another without even being near them or induce damage mental damage. Alternatively, the person can use this ability to make one take more damage than they normally would.
Users
- Makima (Chainsaw Man): Makima can with a mere stare or pointing, greatly damage one's insides.
Set Damage
The user's attacks, in whatever form they take, always inflict damage with every successful strike. Regardless of the target's defenses or toughness, they cannot take such blows and emerge unharmed. An example of this is getting an item in a weapon in a game that always deals the same amount of damage no matter how high or low the enemy's level is.
Users
- Marle (Chrono Trigger): Marle's venus bow always deals 777 damage no matter the enemy, boss, or level.
Damage Reduction
Damage Reduction, also known as Damage Minimalization, is an ability to decrease and reduce the damage the target takes making them harder to defeat or destroy.
This is different from Statistics Reduction, because the opponent's statistics are not reduced, just the damage alone.
This is also different from Statistics Amplification because nothing of their statistics are actually amplified.
The users of this ability are usually considered as tanks or hard-to-kill because of their potential to prolong the duration of the fight without any fatal damage.
Applications
- Armor Based Damage Reduction: In some RPG-genre games, the armor one buys from the store instead of increasing a person's defense, reduces the damage taken due to the armor.
- Extra Hit Based Damage Reduction: In many games, a character will obtain a power-up or item that allows them to take an "extra hit", regardless of how much stronger or weaker the attack is then the user. This allows them to survive attacks for one more hit.
