Omninescience
Background
Omninescience (literally "all-ignorant") is the ability to know absolutely nothing and ignore everything infinitely. It represents the ultimate suppression of awareness, perception, intelligence, and comprehension, rendering the user entirely oblivious to all aspects of existence. This ability is the direct opposite of Omniscience, as it removes all cognitive function, memory, and understanding, leaving the user in a perpetual state of ignorance.
Users of Omninescience may be completely unaware of their surroundings, actions, or even their own existence. However, this ignorance can paradoxically result in unique advantages, such as immunity to reality-altering effects, precognition, or psychological manipulation, as they simply do not acknowledge or process these influences.
This ability stands as the direct opposite of Omniscience, which entails infinite knowledge and understanding. Whereas an omniscient being perceives everything in existence, an omninescient being is completely oblivious to everything, either by choice or as an inherent state of being.
Also Called
- All-Ignorance
- Absolute Ignorance
- Anti-Omniscience
- Omni-Incompetence
- Permanent Amnesia
- Total Oblivion
Possible Applications
Absolute Unawareness
- Total Perceptual Absence: Complete inability to perceive reality in any form.
- Knowledge Nullification: No memory, understanding, or capacity to retain information.
- Self-Oblivion: Lack of awareness of one's own existence.
- Sensory Negation: Total absence of sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell.
Immunities and Resistances
- Psychic Immunity: Mind-based attacks, illusions, and mind reading are ineffective.
- Causality Immunity: User is unaffected by cause-and-effect relationships.
- Reality Alteration Resistance: Changes to reality have no impact, as the user does not acknowledge them.
- Precognitive Immunity: Cannot be predicted or foreseen, as they exist outside of comprehension.
- Emotional & Mental Influence Resistance: Immune to persuasion, fear, or manipulation.
Potential Paradoxical Capabilities
- Unpredictability: No logic governs their actions, making them impossible to anticipate.
- Dimwitted Genius: Can accomplish feats without understanding them.
- Subconscious Warping: Reality may shift unintentionally based on impulse.
- Conceptual Self-Removal: User may not register as a concept within existence.
- Tracking Evasion: Cannot be found or perceived by any means.
Potential Types
Omninescience can manifest in different forms depending on the extent and nature of the user's ignorance:
- Selective Omninescience: The user has knowledge but can choose to ignore anything at will, treating it as nonexistent. They may be capable of performing complex actions without being aware of what they are doing.
- Instinctive Omninescience: The user lacks conscious knowledge or intelligence but operates purely on subconscious instinct, allowing them to navigate the world without needing to understand it. This can lead to unpredictable actions that seem like luck or fate.
- Total Omninescience: The user possesses absolute and irreversible ignorance, meaning they know nothing, comprehend nothing, and perceive nothing. Their existence defies logic, and they may be immune to reality itself due to their inability to acknowledge it.
- Paradoxical Omninescience: The user’s ignorance is so extreme that it breaks conventional understanding, allowing them to unknow things out of existence or defy logic entirely. Their actions may reshape reality simply because they fail to acknowledge its rules.
Possible Limitations
- Lack of Agency: The user may not be capable of intentional action or thought.
- Uncontrollable Ignorance: Inability to process threats, warnings, or changes in surroundings.
- Dependence on External Forces: May require external intervention to function in any capacity.
- Paradoxical Existence: Being truly "all-ignorant" may conflict with the ability to act at all.
Users
- Giygas (EarthBound): Driven mad by his own power, he exists in a state of complete irrationality.
