Aerial Recovery

From The Codex
Jump to navigationJump to search

Background

Aerial Recovery is the ability to regain composure and control while airborne after being struck, launched, or otherwise thrown off balance. This ability is often tied to extraordinary agility, reflexes, or supernatural enhancements, allowing the user to neutralize the effects of being incapacitated mid-air. Aerial Recovery enables combatants to reposition themselves effectively, avoid follow-up attacks, and even counterattack with precision.

This ability is commonly seen in characters with highly dynamic combat styles or those who specialize in aerial maneuvers, serving as a crucial tool for maintaining mobility and control during battle. Aerial Recovery also highlights a character’s resilience and adaptability, emphasizing their capacity to recover quickly under pressure.

Possible Applications

  • Regaining balance and control after being struck or launched mid-air.
  • Executing evasive maneuvers to avoid follow-up attacks.
  • Transitioning into a counterattack or special move immediately after recovering.
  • Changing trajectory or orientation to land safely or prepare for the next action.
  • Using the recovery to reposition advantageously during combat.

Variations

  • Instant Recovery: Allows the user to recover almost immediately after being hit, requiring precise reflexes or supernatural speed.
  • Momentum Control: The user can redirect their mid-air trajectory while recovering, giving them the ability to evade danger or set up attacks.
  • Counter Recovery: Combines recovery with an offensive action, allowing the user to launch a retaliatory attack as part of their recovery.
  • Multi-Recovery: Advanced users can perform successive recoveries if struck multiple times in quick succession, maintaining control throughout.

Limitations

  • Requires the user to be airborne to activate the ability.
  • May depend on precise timing or situational triggers, making it challenging under intense pressure.
  • Effectiveness can vary depending on the force of the impact or the user’s stamina and focus.
  • Repeated use in quick succession may drain the user's energy or cause physical strain.
  • May be ineffective against certain attacks that immobilize or disrupt movement entirely.

Users

  • Sora (Kingdom Hearts): Utilizes Aerial Recovery to regain control mid-air and counter incoming threats during combat.
  • Neku Sakuraba (The World Ends With You): Neku has special pins allowing him to recover from attacks sending him flying in the air.
