Squirrel Girl can manipulate squirrels and their actions.

Background

Animal Manipulation is the ability to summon, control, and, if necessary, dismiss various animals. This control can be exerted through empathy, mind manipulation, magic, or even through direct communication. In some cases, users of this ability can adopt the traits of animals, such as heightened senses or physical features. Advanced applications may allow the user to shapeshift into animals or even transform others into them.

Animal Manipulation can extend to both real-world animals and mythical creatures. The user may command a variety of creatures, from common animals to legendary beings from myths and folklore, harnessing their powers or abilities for various purposes.

  • Beast Mastery
  • Creature Command
  • Zoological Manipulation

Possible Applications

  • Manipulation of Conventional Animals: The user can control common animals, typically by using empathy, mind control, or magic. The control over these creatures can range from simple command to more complex interactions, such as influencing their behavior or using them as tools for specific tasks.
  • Manipulation of Mythical Creatures: The user can summon and control animals that exist only in mythology or legends, such as dragons, griffins, and unicorns. This power might require specific magical rituals or other manipulative techniques like manipulating matter, souls, or information.
  • Animal Shapeshifting: Advanced users can take on the form or characteristics of animals, either temporarily or permanently. This includes gaining abilities like enhanced senses, speed, or strength. It can also involve complete transformation, allowing the user to become a full animal or any hybrid form.
  • Animal Empowerment: Users can imbue themselves or others with the traits of animals, gaining abilities like a dog’s heightened sense of smell or an owl’s night vision. This empowers the user to take on some of the more beneficial qualities of the creatures they control.

Practical Uses

The ability to manipulate animals can serve numerous purposes depending on the user's creativity and the type of creatures they can command. Uses may include:

  • Summoning animals to aid in combat or scouting missions.
  • Using animals for travel or transport, such as riding mythical beasts or large creatures.
  • Gathering information or spying by commanding birds or small creatures to observe from afar.
  • Enhancing physical capabilities by borrowing traits like speed, strength, or night vision.
  • Defending oneself or others by summoning animal guards or protective companions.
  • Establishing communication between species or using animals to deliver messages.
  • Transforming into animals to evade capture, travel covertly, or gain temporary survival advantages in certain environments.
  • Utilizing mythical creatures to unleash unique magical abilities or attacks, such as fire-breathing or healing powers.

Types

  • Natural Animal Manipulation: The ability to control real-world animals like dogs, birds, and bears using natural empathy, body language, or trained responses.
  • Mythical Animal Manipulation: Involves summoning or commanding legendary or fictional beasts like phoenixes, dragons, or chimeras.
  • Telepathic Animal Manipulation: The use of mental or psychic links to influence animals without verbal or physical commands.
  • Magical Animal Manipulation: The user employs magical spells or enchantments to summon, tame, or control animals.
  • Hybrid Manipulation: Involves controlling or becoming animal-human hybrids, allowing for partial transformations or fusion-based control.
  • Spiritual Animal Manipulation: Involves communication or control over animal spirits, astral forms, or totemic beasts often tied to specific cultures or traditions.

Possible Limitations

  • Skill and Familiarity: The effectiveness of Animal Manipulation depends heavily on the user’s familiarity with the animal being controlled or transformed into. A lack of understanding of certain creatures might limit their power.
  • Control Limits: The user’s control over animals can vary. For example, mythical creatures may be harder to control, and less intelligent animals may be more easily manipulated than others.
  • Mental and Emotional Strain: Constant or large-scale manipulation of animals, especially if it requires empathy or mind control, can drain the user’s mental energy, leading to exhaustion or loss of control.
  • Animal Resistance: Some animals, particularly magical or powerful creatures, may resist control or manipulation, requiring a stronger bond, greater magical ability, or more intense focus from the user.
  • Environmental Constraints: Certain abilities, like shapeshifting or empowering, might be limited to specific environments or situations, depending on the user’s connection with the animals or the surrounding area.
